      They're MODEs from
      aeo maj7 = Harmonic min
      A Harmonic min b2....Batshiet crazy scale = it's b6 mode (F lyd #2, #5)
      A Harmonic min #4....aka double harmonic min or Hungarian min
      F Lyd #2, #6
      Harmonic min b5...it's b6 mode = Lyd #2, b7 or Mix #2, b7 ( Hungarian MAJOR)
      F Lyd #2, b7
      do the samething to dorian
      dorian Maj7 = melodic min
      dor b2, maj7
      dor #4, maj7 ( inverted lyd diminish or just Lyd b3 of Harmonic MAJOR)
      dor b5, maj7 = The OneEyeMonsta scale..lmao
      If you COMBINE
      Harmonic min b5 AND Melodic min b5 ( b6 and maj6) FULL dim W/H
      dor b2, #4 AND lyd b2, b7 or Mix b2 #4 = FULL dim H/W
      They're SYMMETRICAL
      example...if you play A full W/H
      you could also play....B..........D...........F............G# full dim H/W
      The trick is to VAMP it over the V chord ( G7)
      Becuase You can stack MAJOR, min. DOMINANT, full or half dim every b3
      Jazz players will say...........Db is TRITONE sub of G7
      G7 into C MAJOR
      E7 into A min
      G7...........................E7
      .......Bb............Db... = N6 chords
      or you can even do this
      Loc Maj7...OneeyeMonata veriation 2.lmao
      you'll simply get a Mix #2
      or you can keep track dominantish modes like this
      It's EASIER to use typical MODE terms..then just SHIFT a note or two
      Mix.........( ion b7)
      mix #2
      Mix #4
      Mix b2
      Mix b6
      Mix #2, #4
      Mix b2, b6 ( phrygian dominant)
      mix b2, #4
      phry b4
      dor b4
      aeo b4
      loc b4

    Byzantine music uses multiple types of modes, which are called echoi, which are divided into 4 types, and those 4 types are divided into main and plagal. All of those echoi, in turn, are categorized by genus into diatonic, chromatic, and enharmonic. The "double harmonic major" mode that he plays here is a bit close to the plagal second type of echos or written more simply as plagal B, which is an echos of the chromatic genos. With the difference from the byzantine music (better called eastern roman chanting art) being that they don't use 12 tone equal temperament. Instead, they divide an octave into 72 microtones or as they're called "moria" (which is greek for molecules). As such, a diatonic tone close to the sound of a western large 2nd interval is the size of 12 moria and the minor second the size of 6 moria. The plagal B type of mode has 7 steps (as all byzantine modes and the above clip), which going from lower to higher are of the size:
    6,20,4, 12 ,6,20,4
    So in terms of western intervals, it is close to:
    a semitone, an augmented 2nd+ 1/3 of a semitone (10/6 of a tone), 2/3 of a semitone, a tone, a semitone,10/6 of a tone , 2/3 of a semitone

    whats the exact difference between an aug 2nd and a minor 3rd.. (dont answer, its a trap, it only gets worse from here)

    • @aldeayeah
      @aldeayeah 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For the curious, the difference is this:
      - A second is the interval between two consecutive notes (there are no other notes in between).
      - A third is the interval between two notes that have another single note in between.
      - This distinction only makes sense in the context of a scale or key that has a defined set of notes.

    • @sandalero
      @sandalero 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@aldeayeah but what is the diff between 2 intervals that have the same amount of notes in between but you call them either a aug2 or a min3? (keep in mind THAT THIS IS A TRICK QUESTION)

    • @sandalero
      @sandalero 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      answer: there is no diff in jazz chord notation or jazz use. but its a discussion that classically trained folks love to talk about tho it has no real world use at all. in a jazz rehearsal we would NEVER talk about this at all since it doesnt apply to any problem that u would ever encounter ever

    • @sandalero
      @sandalero 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      in the real world u would want to name your chords right or would want to use them right with the approp. scales. and u would want to use them in the right context but there would never be a discussion if #9 is the same as min3. never

    • @sandalero
      @sandalero 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      D,Eb, F#, G;A;Bb;C# sounds the same regardless if any of it is b9 or min3. no one cares if the # or b's are correct. we're talking about this and the song is already over. start practicing the scale instead of talking about enharmonics or if there are diff names for the same interval.- we could be practicing whole step half step for 30min now and wasted a lot of time (friendly satire) .. .

    It's not the byzantine scale. It is occasionally used in byzantine of course. It's called hijaz mode.

    Is the byzantine scale double harmonic?

  • @daralenoach
    @daralenoach 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Are you sure it has augmented 2nds? I'm pretty sure Byzantine is 1,b2, 3, 4, 5, b6, #7,
    In other words, phrygian dominant with a raised 7th.

    • @neobritt3271
      @neobritt3271 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, there are three half steps between the b2 and 3, and between the b6 and 7, which are both augmented 2nd intervals.

    • @daralenoach
      @daralenoach 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@neobritt3271 ah I see. I thought he was referring to the interval between the 1st and 2nd.
