100% agree. The Silent Drill Platoon should have the entire field to themselves start to finish, no exceptions.
This just shows the levels of disrespect and ignorance in our culture today. These men represent the United States Marine Corps, and this is how they’re treated.
completely agree with everyone here, they should have allowed the platoon to complete their show uninterrupted. A football game is just not the venue for the Silent Drill Team.

A note for you two. When the German fought against the Americans for the first time at Bellu Wood they faced U.S. Marines. The Marines were utterly silent on the attack and it terrified German troops facing them. Silent drill is more then a tradition, its also a remembrance.
I am sure they never terrified German troops they had been fighting since 1915 and both sides had almost 10,000 casualties plus it was the US France and the UK against Germany.
You should have mentioned, for those not familiar, the Battle of Belleau Wood was in WW I .
@@ottomueller4425 The Germans at Belleau Wood were so impressed with the U.S. Marines, that they called us Teufel Hunden, which translates to Devil Dogs. And the nickname stuck. Yeah, terrified might not be exactly the right word but they had met their betters. As the Marines continued to fight on through the effects of the mustard gas that the Germans launched at them. You should read up on that.
I needed more upset that the teams and that the adults in charge didn't know the significance of this drill..... Shame on every adult who didn't show respect..... Sadest

You Are Correct!! As A Veteran(US Navy) I Feel It Was Completely Disrespectful Of The Players To Take The Field While The MCSDP(Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon) Was In The Middle Of Their Routine!!
I don't know. I'm a Navy vet too, but you have to realize the NFL only gives teams 12 minutes at half time and the kickers, that are required to kick 50 yard field goals through a 6 yard wide slot, need that time between halves to warm up their legs. It is a logistical issue, not an issue of respect. It has been my experience with every NFL player I have met, they truly love and respect the US military.
I’m sure every NFL player would respect the hell out of them if they were on the marines turf. But the marines were on their turf and this game is how they feed their family’s. One second of being unfocused could end your career. I’m sorry but they definitely don’t give a fuck
Poor time management.. halftime could have and should have been extended by a few minutes so that players would not be on the field until the Marines were done.
This is a only demonstration, not a memorial ceremony. I’m sure the players respect the performance (which is why they are staying out of the way) and I would also venture to guess that the United States Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon was asked beforehand if practice would be a distraction… and just like the proud organization we all expect them to be, they said, “Of course not.”
A) The "Lost Hat" thing was actually choreographed in and they did it in most performances at that time... I don’t know if they still do.
B) I get the players on the field thing. But, as someone below said better time management of the halftime time frame would have been better. I mean NFL games frequently go over the alloted TV scheduled time, so an additional 2 - 5 minutes could have been allocated.
I believe that your reaction about the end of their performance was spot on. IT looked very disrespectful to have players and other people just walking around on the field during their impressive drill. These guys aren't just performers. They are first and foremost United States Marines. And just like the rest of our armed forces who have volunteered to risk their lives for our continuing freedoms deserve much more respect than that.

I have many men in my family who fought in World war 2 and Vietnam some who did more than 2tours of duty . like my grandpa and great uncles and my father and my father and uncles in Vietnam . lost 6uncles in Vietnam on both sides of my families . from my mothers side and fathers side . its very disrespectful to myself and my family and those who ave lost a family member or have served our country . very sad and hurtful that really love our country and respect our men and women who fought and served our country .
AND each of those Marines are 0311s. They are all infantry Marines.

As a retired U.S.Navy member I know the hour of training that goes into this. I am proud of watching my brothers perform. The Marines are part of the navy. Thank you for this reaction. The two of you are so nice. I wrote this before the players came on the field. What disrespect shown by those players.

I'm a Marine brat myself and unfortunately I've never had the honor of seeing them in person. Hopefully some day I will but I've seen them on here hundreds of times and never tire of watching them

No matter what our politics or view on how deeply we should be involved in foriegn war, one thing most Americans are agreed upon is our love and respect for our military. Disrespect is not appreciated.
And as they walked off of the field I couldn’t help but think of the difference in pay these men make. What a joke. Sports are fun, but that’s a what it is, the other well they give their life for us, sad.

What's worse, the NFL is considered a not-for-profit organization. Everything, I mean EVERYTHING sold with the NFL logo (hats, pins, mugs, whatever) is sold without the NFL paying a DIME in taxes on that merchandise. Billions. Every year. My dad was in the Marine corps. For 16 years, veteran of 2 wars. Everyone who ever met him respected him! He passed away, and I miss him everyday! If you want to see respect you should see the funeral of a veteran!!
My great grandad fought in Africa and Europe during WWII and passed away a couple of years ago at 97. He earned a bronze star and a purple heart while fighting the Nazis. He was given a twenty one gun salute at his funeral in his hometown of Crandon, WI. I will always have great respect for how great and kind a man he was.

I'm a Marine-brat, meaning I was raised in a military family on Marine Corps bases. My father served three years in Vietnam. When I hear the Marine Corps hymn I always stand. Thank you for your respect. Bless you.
Me too...when I was a kid, I harassed my father to teach me Marine stationary drill. I even had a toy rifle. I think I was about six years old and I'm a girl. He was a WWII combat Marine who ofc, fought in the Pacific. I idolized my father who was my hero till the day he passed. As a kid I didn't realize it but thinking back I can still picture the smile on my father's face that he tried to hide. Take care and bless you.

Former US navy here and total respect to my brothers in the US Marine Corps silent drill rifle team. I was a former Navy rifle drill member and have the most respect for those lads. IMHO opinion they're the best at what they do. With that said, you were right to point out the NFL player's disrespect of warming up before the Marines finished. As a veteran, I was very disgusted with their show of disrespect. Shame on them. You wait until the end before you start warming up. I can't emphasize how big of a deal that is here in the US. Disgraceful jerks.

I am a Marine. Never got to see them perform live. Find a video of them on a basketball court. Wooden floor and you get all the sounds of the drill. Rifle butts hitting the floor, etc.
I felt the same way James felt. No players should have been on the field. They can warm up on the sideline. It was disrepectful.
they werent just warming up on the field either. They were warming up within like 10-20 feet of them... I was disgusted by that, not gonna lie. Number 4 should be ashamed of himself.
Having been stationed at different bases around the world, I have had the honor of seeing these dedicated Marines perform the silent drill many times. Each time I see them, even on video, I am struck by how incredibly professional they are

My mother worked at a Boys Club, a place for disadvantaged boys to go have some structure and a safe environment to play and one of the young men that volunteered at the Club (he was one of my basketball coaches there) wanted to give back to his community by starting a drill team, having been in one when he was younger. He knew that my father was a Marine and so asked if he would show the boys manual of arms drills, etc. Soon after forming they began to win awards for their drills and are now a nationally renowned drill team.

You may feel that way, but the NFL has rules. Time between quarters is one of them. Changing the time has to be requested before the game, otherwise the team can be fined.

I used to do some Drill Team stuff, back when I was in high school JROTC, and while we had some really talented folks on our team, NOBODY can touch this group. Semper Fi, Marines. OORAH!!

In case you two did not know: The featured part of their performance at the 7:50 time mark is called "The Queen Anne's" salute. There are hundreds of connections between our Marine Corps and the British Marines.
I was in the Marine Corps. A guy from my combat training platoon went on to be in the silent drill platoon. Marching to cadence is harder than is looks already, this still impresses me

I'm always impressed by the level of discipline they exhibit. Huge respect for these Marines! Now my blood is boiling! These nothing athletes should not be on the field or the very least quiet and at attention!
Sorry, the NFL only allows for a certain number of minutes between games. Any change needs consent and the players need to warm up before the start of the second half. The Texans organization could have easily requested a few minutes extra, but that would have to be before game time so they can let the network know so they can fill time.
It isn't the players fault, they are doing what is necessary and can't be standing at attention. It just isn't going to happen.

Completely agree with you about players on the field. I was even a little irked by the cameraman running around, although I understand it. These guys are amazing.
All branches have their ceremonial platoons but the Marine Silent Drill Platoon is the best of them all (from a 10.5yr infantry officer!!)

I agree with you James! I felt it was rather rude for the players to be tossing the ball around or whatever they were doing. But perhaps the Silent Drill Platoon practices with distractions so that when there are real distractions during their drill performances that they are unfazed and just keep going with the drill just like when the one hat fell off and was placed back on the head by the Leader or rather the soldier who was doing the inspections in front of them.
I agree completely! The real heroes are marching off the field not the NFL players just coming back on the field. The NFL has never been known for its patriotism or intelligence!

They are amazing! I saw them while in boot camp in San Diego in 1985. In boot camp we drilled every day, it is one of the things Marines are known for but these guys are the cream of the crop when it comes to drilling.

That's very hard work! Even just basic drill and ceremony is tough. This isn't basic.
I was in the Marines years ago, i got out before most of these marines were even born. Simple fact these marines id say a good 90% of them are between the ages of 19-21 years old. Very impressive for these marines to do precise movements without cadence. All of them have to be between 5'11" and 6'1" to be accepted into this elite platoon. I'd say you wont see them back at the Titans games anymore due to the disrespect of those players on the field while they are still doing their movements.

I was in the US Naval Reserves for 22 yrs. I was a dental technician. Most people do not know that the US Marines are part of the Navy , they are the Navy's ground force and the Navy takes care of all Marines medical issues . I worked many times at Paris Island which is one of the Marines boot camp stations . I loved watching boot camp graduation day . Nothing sharper then Marine's dress uniforms and when they march and perform their rifle drills .
This used to happen when I was on a drill team as well. (Not this one). We would put on an exhibition during a sporting event, usually football, and, before were were done, the teams would take the field again and begin warming up. The athletes usually viewed us as a distraction and time filler. I only remember once occasion when a player refused until we left. His coached benched him for the 3rd quarter as a result. I know that the athletic event is the "main event" but if they don't want the efforts of anyone else, don't invite them.
I did a bit of trick drill when I was younger with the Marines, I'm former Navy, and you're right that it takes a lot of practice. The biggest problem in practice is injury. Those guns weigh more then you'd think, and while training if you catch them wrong, or miss a catch, etc...well now that's when you catch a rifle butt to the face, or end up with pits of your hand caught in the action. Just saying that it's harder then you'd think a hurts a fair bit more! Mad props to the Marines Silent Drill team.
Very true. I used to date a guy who was on drill team in JROTC in high school and his arms were full of bruises from practice. And his practice rifle wasn’t nearly as heavy as the 10lb ones the marines in the video had. Much respect!
The discipline and dedication put into Military Drills bring me to tears. This was absolutely beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing. If you ever get a chance the Marines have Body Bearers, these are the people given the honor of carrying marines to their final resting place, the training video is something Innever thought about
The best catch of the game, was the rifle exchange!! There are silent cans exes. Every slam of the rifle butt stock to hand slapping the rifle is a cadence.
I was a Jarhead for 8 years and change, and the rest of us were all impressed with what they could do. Great video and great reaction
One of my Drill Instructors back in 89 was on the Silent Drill Platoon before he was a Drill Instructor.
As amazing as this looks on video, seeing it live and in person is awe inspiring! I have blessed to have grown up around the military here in Washington DC and witness the very best that our military can offer in person.

There is a video on YT that has these marines on a basketball court. They do more stuff like slamming their gun butts on the court n its not like a bunch of slams, but rather like 1 sound. It is awesomely impressive.thanks for showing respect for this video n our marines. As a retired air force vet, I can say with no reserve in mind, the marines are just on another level.

The lost hat must be part of the drill. I have seen this in every performance that I can remember. I use to live in northern Virginia and been to the Marine barracks to watch this incredible performance many times. It never gets old!
What do you mean exactly by part of the drill? It's not supposed to happen that the cover gets knocked off. Sometimes it just does. The point is when it does happen or something else goes wrong like the rifle snapping in half, which I've seen happen, you continue on as if nothing has gone wrong. You don't try to fix yourself. That's the point of demonstrating discipline.
This has happened in every drill I have watched. I have seen many. To much for the law of averages!
@@georgedykes5533 Well of the three times I've seen the Marine Corps Silent Drill team perform in person, they've completed the routine perfectly. I even got to speak with the Marines on the parade deck after their performance and they informed us that they spend quite a great deal of time practicing what to do if something in the routine were to go wrong.
When my son was in the Corps, I got to see these guys perform twice.....once at the Sunset Ceremony at the Marine Corps Headquarters in Washington, D.C. They are amazing.

I used to command a silent drill team and it was actually a lot of fun in the challenge of hitting every beat on time. The hard routine was doing this in a parade situation. Sometimes parts would come off of our rifles and you had to just keep going. The precision I learned has helped me in many other professions as well.
My HS team was National Champs- they were mindblowing to the USAF drill team. They were here for the super bowl and performed at our school. Our Drill Commander got to participate - they wanted to recruit him as a student! He ended up one of the top Marine snipers
5:04 During battle the color guard was just that, a guard for the unit's flag. If the flag were captured the unit would be in disarray because they wouldn't know where to be (since the flag was their rally point). A color guard during the Civil War was made up of at least 8 and up to 15 soldiers who fought only to defend the flag, not themselves.
As young Marines, we used to practice this stuff on our free time... just to see how good we could be at drill :)
Every step, every movement is done on a count, and there are countless of hours and hours of practice and training. Also, keep in mind that those rifles are fully functional and those bayonets are real as those Marines are marching past each other and spinning the rifles near each other's faces. You have to have an exceeding amount of confidence in your buddy's abilities. USMC, 77-81

I agree in that the players should not be out on the field until they are done. It is a respect issue which it saddens me to say that the lack of respect grows due to selfishness, ignorance, improper upbringing, etc…
They're expected to be warmed and stretched and ready to kick the ball basically immediately after the Silent Drill Platoon exist the field. It's the Superbowl and the massive amount of money and prime focus is the game itself, not the entertainment at halftime. Since the game is so big with support for the broadcasts, half-time performances, etc., there's likely nowhere else for the kickers to be ensuring they're ready to play and earn the millions they're being paid to do their job.
If it's disrespectful to do so the Silent Drill Platoon shouldn't have been invited to this particular game because the stakes are so high.

The best dressed military unit in the world. So many uniform variations. Must have spent hours training to perform without any verbal cues.
If you have never listened to the story of the guards at theTomb of The Unknown Soldier you might want to look into that. It's an awesome story and the Changing of The Guards will definitely bring tears to your eyes ! Thank you for your respect and reaction to the stories of the United States of America !

I was at a conference when the silent drill team showed up. On a hardwood floor each step resonated through the room. The rifles rattled the windows. It was awe inspiring. On this field you lose a lot b
Watch this video again and notice not only their perfect timing, but the spacing of their rows, the tilt of their guns, etc. everything is precise!
I am horrified that they had the football players take the field! There is no excuse… and, yes, their silent performance was epic!

I've seen enough videos of the Silent Drill Platoon to say the hat falling off is not an unusual occurrence. In fact, I think the sergeant replacing his hat with that crisp military precision is a crowd favorite. On rare occasions you may also see one of the rifles fall apart mid routine.
The other branches have imitated the Marines with their own ceremonial drill teams, but none of them have matched the Marine Corps.
In the movie "STRIPES", there is a version of the silent drill in the 1st half of the movie. Considering that the drill is done by civilians, it's not half bad.
Oh I completely agree. The Silent Drill Platoon and the guards at the tomb of the unknown soldier are the most disciplined, respected and reveared of all.
With respect, the NCO that replaced the private's hat was a Corporal, not a Sergeant. Sergeants have three chevrons, not two.
I was a guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier from 07-2010. I knew some of the guys that were apart of the Army drill team. They go through years of intense training. Some of them sustain serious injuries, especially when they start training with bayonets. I heard of one guy who had a bayonet stuck in his shoulder.
I think something videos like these do not mention is that it is so quiet during the drill you can hear the marines when they touch their rifles
The cadence of the slaps of the hands and rifles give them a sense of synchronization
As a Marine Corps Veteran I had the pleasure of seeming the Silent Drill team live at one of my duty stations and it was amazing.
The players on the field are a slap in the face. The Platoon is not just for show, when they go out they're a reminder and living memorial to all of those who have served.
It's an incredible honor to be accepted into the silent drill team. I was a marine and tried extremely hard and cut short. It's insanely difficult to make the cut.
Half a lifetime ago, my ex was a Marine stationed at Yuma Air Station. The silent drill team and USMC band went to that base to practice, for about a month each year, I think. For the five years I lived there, they did their show at the end of their training before heading out to do shows like this. They always bring me to tears for their dedication and work. I am also irritated the players were on the field. so disrespectful.
My husband is a Marine Corp Veteran! He served in Vietnam as a sniper and traveled the world. He also served as an MP. I am so proud of him for his service and also his sense of humor which just got him in trouble but made all of who he served with laugh including his commander and boot camp trainer. One time a bunch of Marines were carrying ammunition weighing a lot ... he was in the barracks and shouted out to the Marines if they could help a Corporal with his clip board. The Marines laughed and dropped their boxes but the Corporal turned red. It was really funny but not for the Corporal. He wanted to find a funny thing in everything they did but he did his job with courage and conviction. He's my hero.
Its so much better to watch it while its perform in an auditorium.

I was in the USMC. I was in the cake cutting ceremony. There is a lot of practice on this stuff. I didn't do anything like this but we all could do "monkey drills" .
They came to my high school when I was in 12th grade. Not a word was spoken except for “Ahhh” by 2000 students for the entirety of the drill. Amazing!
My husband (US Marine Corps veteran), our youngest daughter and I saw the USMC Silent Drill Platoon live in a town near us a few years ago. It was an amazing experience!! The entire crowd was silent the entire time until the end and then everyone in the stands went crazy cheering for them!! I would love to see them again live!
This was performed at Houston, Texas at the TEXANS football field. I was in the Marine Corp in my younger days. One of the best decisions I have ever made in my life! Always impressed by our silent drill team!
As someone who has grown up doing stuff like this, I can tell you, there is nothing like being in the midst of that. You feel every motion, hear every step and hit, its a symphony and I can tell you, its a transcendent experience. There are few things that feel as next level as being in the flow. I saw this group practicing in 1974 when my dad was stationed in Virginia, office not far from their practice field, I was about ten. I was quite amazed then and really enjoyed the fact that it is still being done near 50 years since I witnessed it. I haven't thought about it much since, unless I see a bit of color guard drill on TV or in a film.
As a 62 year old Marine - my heart still races when I watch the Silent Drill Team. The Discipline & Precision that is shown here in a peaceful environment is a reflection of what Marines can do, have done, & will continue to do on the battle field. It is a Heritage All Marines are proud to be a part of. I am happy our friends across the pond wete able to watch this. I also served with 2 Color Seargents from the Royal Marines of Britain. We were all Airborn and these Marines from the UK have my respect as well. SF
My mom's 4 brothers and my dad's brother were all in the army. I'm very proud of them.
Even with some activity on the field,
it just shows that nothing can distract them from their mission.

Hello guys thanks for respecting our veterans, being an US Air Force veteran myself. I was in a drill team previously. They kept in sequence by the slaps on the rifles.
I had the honor of being a United States Marine in the mid-1960s, and I still get emotional when I see my brothers perform this silent drill routine. We may complete our enlistment, but we remain Marines for the rest of our lives. I applaud you for the content of this video, and I admire you for pointing out the disrespect shown to these young men by the players and other people who came onto the field during the performance. My husband was a member of the platoon. I love that you have done this video and given the platoon the respect and recognition they work so hard for. They travel to show the world our traditions as Marines and are the epitome of discipline. It’s also important to understand that only infantry Marines can be on the drill team. I saw those guys at Westpoint back in 1986. Fantastic show they put on.
It takes many. many. many hours of practice to do with military drills. They make it look so easy.
