    I trim my chicken as well before I freeze it, makes it so much easier to use when you need it

      I completely agree! 💯 No one wants to thaw chicken and then wait to trim. So much easier to do it before we freeze!

    So smart! Great tips. We only get the boneless, skinless chicken breast too. Thighs have so much fat, and I alway felt like I didn’t get much chicken when I bought it in the past.

      Exactly! And it is SO much work to get the Chicken off the bone, too! 😆 Glad I am not the only one who thinks like this!

    Love this. I do the same with raw but never considered cooked. I usually take the lazy way and grab r. Chicken from Sam's and freeze that. I just did that a few weeks back amd i made chicken broth with the carcasses and froze it. I'm excited for that. Soup season is upon us.

    • @joyfullythriving
      @joyfullythriving  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good idea! That is how I built up such a stockpile of broth, with all the bones from the Sam's rotisserie chicken. But I haven't been saving the bones recently because we still have so much broth and apparently my family aren't huge soup eaters...yet!

    Thanks Kristen for another informative video. I think we get so stuck in our ways & its so repetitive, that we don’t even think of another way to do something until we see someone else do it. Having cooked chicken is a game changer! I’ve done it with hamburger or sausage before, but not any other proteins. I will now! Have a great wk!😁

    I stock the freezer when I find it on sale too. I need to pre-cook some chicken like that. I usually do it with ground beef.
    We do put marinades in our chicken breast bags before freezing.

      Thanks, Sandra! I am still working at finding a marinade my whole family loves on chicken! Do you have a go to marinade???

    • @Sandrashideaway
      @Sandrashideaway ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @joyfullythriving we like a 3 cheese Italian dressing as a marinade but with grocery prices up I hate paying $3 for dressing so sometimes I just BBQ sauce and spices.
      And I have used up various odds and ends of jars in the fridge to get rid of themvturning them into a new concoction. 😂 mostly that's spicy. 🌶

      @@Sandrashideaway Haha. Love it! I think Italian will be our go to marinade as well. Definitely going to start freezing some this way!

    I cut up my chicken into bags that work for every meal. We normally do marinated chicken so that it is ready for the grill when it thaws. I do bigger pieces for sliced sandwich meat now that we have given up lunch meat. I grill extras and slice and freeze to use in many meals like paninis, fried rice and more. I normally have a few cut into nuggets for spicy honey mustard chicken which I bread with my leftover breadcrumb container which is made from stale chips and cracker crumbs so that is planned once a month to use it up. The last thing I store is small thin pieces to use in chicken tacos or stir fry. I now keep the stuff I trim to boil with veggie scraps to make broth because I don’t often have whole chicken anymore. Sounds like we have similar chicken preferences 😁 we are boneless skinless chicken too!

      Oh, spicy honey mustard chicken? That sounds delicious! I am still working on finding a marinate my own family likes, but I should start freezing some chicken like that. You are so organized! Way to prep and fill your freezer! 👏 👏 👏

      @@joyfullythriving Spicy Honey Mustard is an easy on with whatever you have to marinate in and then you don't have to use eggs to bread. Use can use mustard, mayo, honey, and sriracha/hot sauce. It is a great use up the extra condiments and I have use all kinds of end of the bottles mustards but usually don't have mayo. Everytime you say it I want to try the poppy seed chicken :)

    I always trim and separate my chicken breasts before I freeze them. I don’t precook my chicken,however; I keep a bag of cooked chicken that is leftover from meals that doesn’t get eaten. I just keep adding to it. I use this cooked leftover chicken for chicken pot pie. Today I made 4 meatloaves and froze them unbaked. It makes for a quick dinner. Btw, where do you get the 5 gallon bags?

    • @angiesteuck

      That is a clever idea for your chicken pot pie! Way to not waste anything! I get the 2 gallon bags at Walmart or on Amazon. They are definitely one of my kitchen favorite things! Here's a link. amzn.to/468VQeS

    I do my chicken the same way that you do but I also whole chickens in the crockpot and debone and shred some, some for b-q sandwiches etc. The I put my bones back in the crockpot and continue cooking which has already been seasoned then strain it and package my chicken broth! I do so many things with my chicken! lol! But I have a question where do you get the 2 gal freezer bags without having to order online??? Ty and everyone shared such wonderful ideas! Loved this video

      I used to do the bone in chicken breasts in my slow cooker too...back when I could always get them for $0.99, but haven't seen that price in much too long! I have bought the 2 gallon bags at Walmart before. They aren't as common but I love them! I can get 2 loaves of homemade bread in one bag then too, and that is wonderful! 😊

    I also never freeze meat in its original package. There are just the two of us. I buy cheap ziplock sandwich bags and place one chicken breast, one pork chop or 1/2 pound of ground turkey in each bag. I then put those in a quart or gallon freezer bag. This way I can pull out how many pieces I need. If we have company, I will obviously need more meat. Sometimes I will throw a couple chicken breast in my small crockpot. I then shred the chicken and freeze it. I also save and freeze any stock it makes. I just need to pay more attention to meat sales. Unfortunately our monthly groceries are around $600. This is due to me having to be gluten free and hubby being diabetic, therefore, we can’t eat the cheaper foods. Low carb foods as well as gluten free foods are more expensive. Why is that?!?

      Very smart to freeze meat in the portion sizes you typically use because yes, you can always pull out more when you need it! 👏 Stocking up on meat when on sale is a great way to stretch a budget. Yes, sadly, speciality diets are more expensive. That is a huge challenge, but keep doing what you can! Shopping the sales, and saving money on meat and even toiletries, can free up extra room in your budget.
