  • Customer states: "I think I put the blade on too tight because now the engine won't turn." Hmm....Sounds a bit odd....
    Turns out that the blade was installed just fine, but an overfilled crankcase, plus some sloppy valve lash, had rendered this mower's compression release mechanism virtually inoperable, and hence, really hard to start. Join me as we sort it all out and get this 20 year old mower back in service!

    It always amazes me how owners neglect even the simplest maintenance items - and then wonder why their equipment doesn’t run, or runs poorly. It isn’t rocket science! lol. Great vid, thanks! 👍

      Well, to be fair, the guy has owned the machine for 20 years, and overall it's in pretty good shape. And he sharpened the blade, another good step of maintenance. So we won't be too hard on him. I'm just glad we figured out how to fix it. Thanks for watching!

    Had a hard time with the hard start rope. After seeing your video I'm happy at least I know why and what to do to fix it . Thank you.

    I've acquired this same mower. A company wanted it hauled off, so I've taken it home and it is hard to pull. Now I know what is wrong. Great video, Thank You

    From the time that I saw this lawnmower, I knew that it needed a valve job. Valve jobs are very commonly needed on these models. Keep up the good work. 😊👍🏿

      Well, I figured it out eventually. I never claimed to be fast, but at least I arrived at the correct solution. Thanks!

      @@Buckwsr No disrespect to you. It was wise to check out things first. I truly believe that you are a really good mechanic, especially for someone who is self taught. Keep up the good work. 😊😊😊😊👍🏿

    There are some small equipment manuals which indicate checking valve lash after the first 50 or 100 hours and then on a regular basis thereafter at 100 hours or annually.
    Also, if you support the machine underneath to raise the front end an inch or two it will help avoid oil leaking out of the sump when the valve cover is removed.

    Nicely done and very methodical in your well narrated process. Did you check/adjust the intake valve lash also while the cover was off?? Easy to follow pace!😊

      I'm sure I checked/adjusted valve lash on both sides. It's been a while, so I can't remember specifically....Thanks.

    I never use the pull cord. I take the engine cover off and turn by hand.

    My Dad had a JS60H, same deck and motor but with the high wheels. I need to do a valve adjustment on it but I can't loosen the hex key lock in order to adjust the valve...any suggestions?

    • @Buckwsr
      @Buckwsr  ปีที่แล้ว

      how about the outer nut? Does that loosen with a wrench? Maybe try using a small impact driver for the inner hex bolt while holding the outer nut with a wrench.

    I hope you cautioned the owner not to overfill again, since that can destroy an engine.
