- Dale Clevenger (A'63) is considered by international audiences and colleagues to be the reigning virtuoso of the french horn. The three-time Grammy Award winner, teacher, conductor, and Principal French Horn in the Chicago Symphony Orchestra received a Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award at the 2011 Carnegie Mellon Alumni Awards.
What a wonderful trip down Memory Lane. Dale and I were classmates for four years at CIT. We all knew he was going somewhere, And, boy, did he ever.
I helped prepare those operas he mentioned with Karl Kritz and was the asst conductor for "Suor Angelica." Hadn't thought about that in a while.
He's still the charmer, judging from this video, but has lost his adorable accent. So sad to learn of his passing a few days ago. What a life well lived.
I'm thinking the graduate composer whose name he couldn't remember was Conrad Susa.
Thank you for the inspiration! Dale is one of my heros of the Horn. I now own a music academy in Las Vegas, Ensemble Arts Academy
I found this extremely valuable and educational. Thank you!
Wow, amazing!
