  • Signal chain: Line 6 XDS Plus wireless system (full range output) into a Korg Pitchblack Poly tuner, then straight into a Phil Jones Bass M-500 (SIX-PAK combo) with two 9b cabinets. Video recorded with my iPhone 11 because my Sony camera went kaput.
Amp is set flat (parametric and graphic EQ’s are not engaged) with no compression. For each bass I played there were no adjustments to input gain or output volume.
Bass is my Ibanez BTB747 seven string bass string with unknown strings; has a low B but will eventually be converted to low F# and Kalium balanced strings.
I also resemble most derogatory remarks regarding my technique. Thanks for watching - feel free to post a comment or question below.

Wow cool bass rig. I have a btb7 myself and I love it.

I purchased a 7-string BTB7E BASS GUITAR from Ibanez in Wisconsin somewhere last year & I tuned it the way I wanted it to be tuned but a little bit heavy on the low B & a little less on HIghh-F so it sounds like a heavier tuned 7-string Bass-guitar, it took me awhile to get it that way & I really love the sounds compared to my old 6-string bass guitar which was easier to understand how it played, now I need to understand this 7-string bass & it's going to take a lot of practice knowing how to adjusting to play 1 string lower! Hi James! The one bass in my collection I didn't review is my Conklin Bill Dickens signature - I have it strung with a low F#! It took me a little while to get accustomed to referencing off a lower string but not as long as my transition from 4 to 5. Is yours a BTB7 or 747? I also have the 7 and did another video on it. Check out Kalium strings if you're not already familiar with them - I plan on getting some .192" sets to put on these as that feels pretty good with the 35" scale. Thanks for stopping by!

Let’s talk about that amazing Phil Jones rig!

Oh man, it's a great rig! Stacking it tall gets the sound up to where I can hear it and adds beef to the tone - you can probably hear the snare drum rattling in the background. My other 'favorite' cab is a SWR Henry the 8x8. Those have more clarity than a fridge and plenty of low end. The PJB stack has noticeably more clarity than ol' Henry at the expense of some bottom end, but it cuts through a mix like nothing else all while sounding full and balanced. At an outdoor show I did in January my sound guy said that he didn't have to put much of me in the FOH system as the sound was pretty evenly spread out front - not something I expected, especially since multi-driver cabs - like 410's - can beam the sound in one direction.

Nice work bro. I recently bought the first generation of this bass with cap pickups. I’m nervous about changing strings though 😆. But I gotta do it.

Why are you nervous? I also have the BTB7 and can’t wait to string it up with a low F#!

@@ericrasmussen4691 nervous because it looks like a lot of work compared to my 4 string. I’m I’m just an impatient guy 😆

@@ericrasmussen4691 Cool you should do a video of it. I've got one aswell. But i thought of getting a double d tuner so you can still have the piccolo range aswell as the contra notes.

Later this year - I’m planning on placing a big string order. We’ll both have to wait for now!

That's a really silly rig. And believe me, I've seen some silly rigs.

The rig in my church's theater is far more silly I assure you.
