I really wanted to experiment with a 6 string and Amazon had the black one recently (perhaps still does) for $49.99. Shipping $30. Out the door $81’ish with tax. Couldn’t resist. I found the tone controls were funny but you explained that. The tuners are decent, fretwork is nice, no sharp edges and not buzzing, though I have yet to lower the saddles. Neck relief was set well out of the box. Bit of a gap in the neck pocket on the lower horn side, the upper horn and back are tight. The tone doesn’t seem to be affected, sustain is nice. I don’t have big hands but I do play a Lakland 55-02, with a 35” scale length and 19 mm string spacing (I think the Glarry is 17mm), thus this wasn’t a stretch, pun intended 😉. Since it’s Amazon I knew I could return it but definitely keeping this. Tremendous value here, I think this brand, regardless of the # strings l, would be great for a beginner just looking to explore playing bass, or experienced player like me looking to test the >4 string waters.
Thank you so much for the review! I'm a recently new subscriber (and bass player) and looked at your Glarry reviews before I got my bass. I have the active (upgraded electronics) version of this with humbucker pickups and love it so far! Your videos show the flexibility of the GIB basses and what a good bass player can make them sound like!
I have the 5 string version of that bass in black. It's a good bass and I like playing it. It's my first 5 string as I've played only 4 strings in the past. I'd recommend Glarry if you don't want to spend a fortune on a bass.
Awesome review, bully 😎🤘🏻🎸 I’ve been seeing these basses on amazon and this bass sounds amazing for the price. Kinda reminds me of basses from rondo music
Thanks a lot bro for the review. I play a Cort V Plus 5 strings bass and was looking for a passive 6 strings with low badget. I'm thinking to grab one on these. I love the tone😊😊😊
I've owned this bass and would say that I was moderately dissatisfied with the pickups insufficiently picking up the b string on this one. I'm personally holding out the few weeks of restock time for the harley bentom b-650 which is an active bass, but has a passive mode included that has a treble AND bass roll off. Crazy stuff, the electronics also seem a little higher quality. They come at $185 currently.
After 40 years of playing bass , I think I want to try a six string. For this price it’s a win win. It won’t be played as my main instrument but something to experiment with. Playing nice chord voicing ect.
I ordered one of these for a show I'm going to be playing, because I'm playing stuff I wrote when I had a 6 string but don't have one anymore, I'm glad you threw up a review on it, I'm actually excited for this thing the tone is nice
How would you compare this to the 6 string Harley Benton? I have the HB and like it but always looking to add more options- the price is so tempting! I can handle the wide neck no problem, and had a Glarry J bass 4 string that I was pleased with overall
I'll answer my own question for anyone seeing this- I ended up taking the plunge and buying the Glarry 6 string with the upgraded pickups on Amazon for $129 shipped and it honestly beat out the Harley Benton 6 string in every way. I say this as someone who has multiple Harley Benton electric guitars and they are fantastic. There is nothing wrong with the Harley Benton, but I find the neck more comfortable on the Glarry to play and the pickups are so much more clear and punchy- I could never get a tone I was happy with on the Harley Benton. I know that doesn't sound right, but the upgraded pickups sound great through my Rumble 800 head with Rumble 410 cab. Tuners are fine. I replaced the strings with Ernie Ball, oiled up the fretboard (it was unbelievably dry), and it was good to go. Action and intonation was perfect out of the box. I am floored by this as I have basses that cost far more and the Glarry (upgraded pickups option) is now the only bass I'll play now! I can't recommend these enough. Mine was perfect!
I have this same bass guitar and I find that it is very good when you put in a active preamp and for me I had a 4 band tone master preamp that I decided to install and it changed the tone and the sound a lot , I would not recommend a top line preamp but the tone master works.
I am very close to buying one of these for recording. I can get a natural finish one brand new for $125. I would put flatwound strings on it. I just don't like the fret noise or the feel I get from roundwounds. Cheers!
My main bass is a 5 string glarry, I love it. So affordable and pretty. I'll buy a guitar next, mine's not doing great. Is this 6 string bass a new product? I don't think they had it when I bought mine, otherwise I'd probably have bought this one instead. Thanks for the demo, it sounds great! I loved the timbres you got out of it. :)
I think it's fairly new. I don't recall there being a 6-string when I bought my tobacco burst GIB-5 last year. I have the active GIB-6, and it is a surprisingly fantastic instrument for the price. Biggest issue: It feels stupid heavy in the hands. Mine comes in at a little under 9lbs, but feels like a fucking log compared to my slightly heavier but significantly better balanced Stiletto Elite-5. I was expecting it to be ultra light like the GIB-5!! 😭 I dunno if I just got an odd specimen where they didn't use basswood for the body, or if there is just so much material in the neck that it throws the guitar so far out of balance (it's about as wide as my forearm).

Thanks for explaining the treble knobs as this is helping answer questions i had .Keep rockin and funkin out 😂
For a cheap bass, this sounds beautiful. Also you're who I aspire to play like

Great review. How were the frets? Fairly level?

I found one for 91 shipped, u think the stock strings are at least usable ? Ty
They're fine. Nothing fantastic, but they do the job and are not tone dead on arrival.
If the tones ARE in series, it would literally take 5 minutes to re-solder them parallel. So that's not too bad.
Bully that has a really nice tone as is?
Just got mine for free.99! The two truss rods are kind of intimidating, but it’s going fretless!
👍👌
SAND the Neck DOWN!! "Modding"? I use my Multi-Effects!! "Coffee" Table sht!! if can PLAY.....
When you're not playing will you talk please?
