    You had the wires around the wrong way. The yellow wire you used is connected to the terminal that goes to the coil. It is the ignition terminal.

      Do you mean the test lead for the ignition switch? The yellow wire is for the multimeter to read continuity. It is not connected to the truck.

    You keep saying it’s a long video, but it doesn’t seem long when it has such interesting content. 👍

    Perfect timing mate ;) just doing the rewiring of my own dash at the moment. (My understanding of the 'ports' on the dash was that they were intended for powering an inspection lamp - there are specific plugs available for them.)

    • @malcolmrodwell5458
      @malcolmrodwell5458 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yep that's exactly what they're used for. But make sure that if you use them you upgrade to modern 4mm banana plug type ones or fuse the old ones. They are only insulated by a wax paper disc and are the main fire risk on land rovers. Fuse is essential!

      @conrad1468  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nick S, good luck on your rewire. Make sure you mark your wires or use different colors so you don’t cross wires. Even add some inline fuses. Pretty cheap insurance.

    • @conrad1468
      @conrad1468  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Malcolm, you are correct. There is a little piece of plastic or wax paper around the terminals.

    These videos are great Cory, love the way you explain your way through your progress. It helps so much, when I look at the mess I have, not so daunting now. Cheers. Jason

      Thank you again Sir!!! Glad you’re enjoying the videos and finding inspiration for your truck. I try not to explain to much until I start talking and I don’t stop talking!! Ha ha!!!

    Hey, was wondering if you had a video of how to take the ignition switch out, I need to replace but can't figure out how to get it out, thanks Cory.

    • @conrad1468
      @conrad1468  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry I do not have one. The early switch like mine are held in with a wire clip help in with a bolt holding the wire around the switch.

    • @conrad1468
      @conrad1468  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      At the 3:30 mark of the video. You can see the little metal wire clip and bolt/nut.

    Hi Cory really enjoying the videos. Starting to work through the wiring of my old 88 and you've inspired me. Is there anyway to download the wiring diagram you show in the videos. It would be a great help if possible. Thanks Sean

      Thank you Sir. Send me an email and I’ll send you a PDF copy of my diagram. Email is in the video’s description. My diagram isn’t the same as stock LR wires but it’s what I used to wire my truck.

    Hi Cory, Your Awesome!! Im curious about the combination headlight ignition switch. there appears to be letters and words molded in to the back of the switch. do they have any meaning? I like the idea of having the fuse box and the relays in that compartment. Could you make one pigtail connector that could go to the dash and plug to plug all of the wires into it? for quick disconnect?

    • @conrad1468
      @conrad1468  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You’re awesome, too!! The numbers going around on the switch doesn’t match the original diagram. I like to hide as much as possible like relays. Room is actually pretty tight behind the dash. A single pigtail would be nice. Kind of too fancy for my wiring. Ha ha!

    Cory, you may find you need a voltage stabiliser to work the fuel guage....otherwise you'll find the fuel needle rising and falling with the engine revs!

    • @conrad1468
      @conrad1468  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are correct Sir. The later fuel gauges used a heated element in the fuel gauge. Plus a different fuel sender. Since I have an early gauge it uses resistance thru a different fuel sender. It does not use a voltage stabilizer.

    Won't there be power from the switch for glow plugs ?

    • @conrad1468
      @conrad1468  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are correct. The ignition key when turned to “on” position it triggers the glow plug relay to turn on for 15 seconds. The timed relay will be discussed in another video. Please stay tuned for the next videos!! 😀
