    At last someone who has put forward a clear, well presented example of an alternative fuel. This channel stands above anything else on TH-cam. Well done 👏🏻

    Game changer on farms even if you have to buy in the gas . Huge savings hopefully the government don’t stick there beaks in and tax the hell out of it with less diesel been used in the future

    With current situation globally it makes sense to have your farm to have two types of fuel, especially if one of the fuels you can produce yourself.

    Lovely to see the technology mature and become really useable in mobile applications. I was converting Tractor engines to methane back in the early 90's, the development of good automotive control systems and gas injectors has allowed the technology to become reliable and predictable. Let's hope this really takes off.

    Mucker that was a brilliant review test demo whatever we can call it on both fuels ! Proof as they say is in the pudding ! Very interesting to hear the fuel coatings etc and from someone who has been using the tech for some time ! Thanks to all involved in the film :)

    Absolutely makes sense! 👍 Diversity in fuels is really the key to the future. I don't think it will ever be that we can depend on just one fuel source when there are so many others out there. Why limit ourselves? Instead of flaring the waste gases....use them!

    My only experience with a gas powered vehicle was in the late 1970s with a homemade conversion on an HA Viva van, ran it on butane and propane. Engine stayed cleaner, may save you oil changes too. We used a modded SU carburettor to meter the gas and a copper coil to heat the cylinder. It was comedy gold in the laboratory we worked in to see workmates looking out the window to see where the van was parked so they would sneak out and move their cars away from it. I know it was just a bit of fun but it is definitely a viable fuel.

    Now that was a surprise. Very informative. I remember we had a propane Minneapolis Moline 602 with a loader that was always used. Didn't matter the season, winter in Minnesota is frigid, it started right up. Great tractor. This methane tractor looks, technically quite similar in respect. And if you can create your own fuel at the same time. What a concept.
    Great video, thanks.

      I have to admit, that's a really novel idea for a cattle farm. Pig farms are certainly the worst. With the fact Methane is much worse than CO2, using methane as a fuel make sense. The technology needs to be created to break down the CO and CO2 byproducts down to carbon (great for vehicle tyres) and the Oxygen combined with Hydrogen to make additional water molecules. It can all be done electrochenically or via catalysts. Interesting solution.

    There is a guy on the net with a video who had a chicken farm and a home made AD and compressed and filled his own gas bottles and ran his car on it! If I can find it I will post it up here! This is great news, and the most positive thing I have seen yet! In the 1970,s at some or other rock festivalI bought a "mother earth book of home made power" and it was my introduction to the AD in the form of what the Indians called Gobar gas, where instead of burning dried animal dung( the smoke from which caused terrible eye problems), the people were encouraged to put the dung in a small AD which filled an inner tube with enough gas to cook with!
    I could not, and still cannot understand why every sewage works is not using an AD to make energy to at least run the plant if nothing else. There are other advantages as well, not mentioned in your brilliant vid, apart from getting cheap fuel, what is left after digestion is complete is a liquid called the "supernatant" which makes an excellent fertiliser, and a sludge which is a great soil improver, it literally is a win win for the farmer, and you can digest virtually any sort of biological matter, plant waste weeds tree trimmimgs etc etc!
    Well done Lord Muck et al!

    When comparing the diesel cost to gas, you could also include the add blue cost to the diesel that isn't needed for methane that's also increased significantly in the last year. Very informative video 👍

    It’s definitely an interesting concept to be able to fill on your own farm with you own fuel. I wonder how large a tractor they could power with it?🤔. Gas powered cars filling up at a farm would be a massive income buster and diversification especially if the government are intent on getting rid of cheery.

    Somehow didn't get a notification for this one so a bit late. One other thing about these new fuels is that the engine emissions is less complicated. I have old Deutz air-cooled tractors on my farm and if you wanted one new it could be possible because Deutz engines still make a simple air-cooled engines just a natural gas engine instead of diesel. I find your opinion a bit more lively interesting. One of the fun things about my collection is the different 90-110 PTO hp tractors I have is seeing how different they can be so more lively in throttle response or torque?

    This has got to be the way forward a well thought out concept and if you want to do longer days in the field fives minutes to fill is better than spilling fuel down your leg from a can

  • @pauldixon3089

    What a fantastic machine 😁
    Fuel cost saving will offset the extra initial cost of buying the tractor plus it's going to be saving money every year so overall it makes the methane powered tractor very attractive. Technology will, I'm sure, eventually extend the daily working hours of the machine so that's not going to be too much of an issue down the road.
    Full marks to New Holland, looks like the future could be Blue.

    As you say, it suits certain applications!
    Like mentioned in this video it would be ideal of large dairy and biogas operations
    Say you were carting maize or digestate on the long haul, that quick fuelling time would save a lot of time over the day and increase productivity!

    The first threshing machine, the first tractor, the first Landrover, methane powered engines, these guys are agricultural pioneers! Let's hope it goes big, then crosses over to everyday life so I can nip to a local farm and fill up my van or landy, maybe then farmers will be allowed to make a few quid!!

    Finally had a chance to see this one, and it was well worth it, Kurt.
    It's a sensible way to go forward using existing technology, rather than scrapping and "reinventing" the tractor, modifying it to use what we already have to solve a new world problem.
    Makes you think that it could be possible to make a kit to retrofit some tractors?
    Also most towns and cities are "sitting" (shitting?) on another fuel possibility...............

    Great video mucker nice to see technology advancing to suit the modern world I think it would be a definite contender for a cattle farm if they could produce there own fuel it could easily save them lots of money from future fuel bills and from what you have shown they are as good as a diesel powered tractor.

    Excellent video - pretty good overview of the machine and operation costs. I think that methane has very good potential in the future and has a niche between diesel and electric machines. We can extract methane from all sorts of waste instead of just letting it go into the atmosphere.
    I see one of the transport companies near me has been using CNG Iveco lorries the past few years too which is good to see

    What a really good informative video Mucker and as you say used in the right application I think will be a real game changer, however I have a feeling in the back of my mind that the government will not be happy at loosing fuel revenue duty and will find a way of taxing methane as a fuel source - I hope I'm wrong because this as I see it is the way forward.

  • @TheSynthnut

    Great video Kurt, most informative indeed. Will be interesting to see if the additional costs of the new machines stay as low as that 10% Many companies leverage customers cost savings heavily against purchase prices. As it stands, the extra machine cost seems very fair, especially when weighed against potential running cost reductions. The additional infrastructure won't be free of course, but if installed at the point where open pits legally have to be covered, that should offer the lowest cost I would hope.To be able to produce heat, electricity, traction fuel and all at the same time as reducing atmospheric methane release is a quadruple win!

    I started to watch with an open mind and was impressed. I know we've got to look at other fuelling systems and we have hydrogen that's being developed as well.
    Would you think methane could be used in cars and trucks as well?
    I'd like to think so as to get away from battery electric units due to the cost of replacing the batterys.

    • @LordMuck
      @LordMuck  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Battery powered vehicles and units also have a part to play and the technology is already available to make them much more efficient - the government however are not so keen to push the infrastructure as it's currently not much of an earner.
      Despite everyone rolling in their own shit like excitable chimps over hydrogen, the reality is it's not going to be the saviour that everyone hopes.

    • @LordMuck
      @LordMuck  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The set up cost would be fairly expensive but for AD you've got the plant which is generating revenue into the grid and for slurry methane capture you will have to do it regardless in the next few years so the 'fuel' is basically a bi-product of another venture.

    One thing I think needs change as they are probably already working on a high pressure tank or something but that front tanks where weights would be needs to ge tidied up for front links then it will boost the sales really a tractor that big u would miss your front links /weights but I do think would be a massive improvement in many sectors

    I did not see that coming i thought diesel was a must in farm environment but 10k extra to buy but 18 k saving in year 1 on fuel still up 8 k and i would guess the service cost be the same ish as diesel also? and over five years modern with the savings over five year life of it would only cost 20k barging that is 18k saving on fuel cost per year over the five years is 90k so at 110k to buy its a 20k tractor ball park numbers wow if that is close to right

    Supose if you had a dairy farm and looking into the tractor youd might as well be looking into maybe a slurry pump/mixer that has its own engine to run off the gas its basically churning out and maybe a genny too as the extra saving with electric would help the gas infrastructure pay for itself

    A good informative Video with a few surprises to😊 I’m sure even Rudolf Diesel himself would agree👍 These engines certainly have potential for small to medium tractors👍 Diesel no doubt will still be the choice for bigger machines. New Holland obviously done their homework BUT let’s now wait for what John Deere, Claas, Fendt and Deutz come up with…that’s going to be very interesting🤔🤔

    Fantastic video really interesting concept, the fact that you could produce your own fuel from your own AD plant and run a generator to produce electricity which you could sell back to the network operator a no brainer surely. The only thing I can see on that tractor that might be something that could be rethought Is fuel tank so you can have a front linkage

    • @LordMuck
      @LordMuck  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      As discussed further down you can already have roof or rear mounted range extender tanks so you can have a front linkage.

    You should check out the new JCB designed Hydrogen Tractors & Telehanders which have the same power as a Diesel version But don't produce any emissions at all and still let JCB build the same lower half of the engines so the factory jobs are safe they just designed a new top half to the engines! The Machines are amazing.

    • @LordMuck

      You should try watching the video - New Holland are using the same 6.7 litre FPT with some top end mods
      that's all.

    Good video! 👍 We have an AD Plant and Upgrade the gas but want to wait until the tractors are more proven before we purchase

    • @LordMuck
      @LordMuck  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's not a lot to prove really - that's the point - it's the 6.7ltr FPT engine, transmission is same as the diesel, cab, axles, hydraulics etc

    • @andymercer8092
      @andymercer8092 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LordMuck fair point. I would like to see what parameters the gas quality has to be within to make it work efficiently.
      Not a pessimist to the idea at all but I think the design of tractors will also have to change to integrate the gas tank. Not that safe or practical on the front.
      I would actually like to try one.

    • @LordMuck
      @LordMuck  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's completely safe on the front, in fact safer than a diesel tank as it's in a steel frame and tested for impact with multiple safety shut off valves.
      Front linkage can be specced and pto as the range extender can go on the roof or rear of the machine.
      The gas produced is the same fuel that the generator engines run on so perfectly fine to run a tractor on.

    Very intersting that.
    The amounts of electricity we are going to need just for cars I can't see Ag or HGV going all electric, there just isn't enough to go round.
    You'll have to have a methane vs hydrigen next.

    • @LordMuck

      Hydrogen is a good sales pitch - it's not what they purport it to be. Methane is what it says on the tin.

    I bought a dual fuel generator under the idea that propane engines last a bit longer than gasoline as they don't wear as much . I could ask the internet but how or what would New Holland say about it? Diesel to Methane ? under normal use.

  • @Munter1

    Interesting video M’Lud but l have two questions for you.
    1)
    The diesel engine is lubricated by the oil in the sump and by the injected diesel thus why they last a long time, however by burning a gas your in effect cutting the lubricating system in half, so would a methane engine last as long as a conventional diesel?
    2)
    Will the methane tractor start from cold in winter at a ballpark figure -5?

    • @LordMuck
      @LordMuck  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No different to a petrol engine - you're not cutting anything down, it gets lubricated the same way as the diesel variant.
      Methane will start at very low temps and doesn't wax up.

    The fuel of the future, should be exiting times ahead with all this new technology coming down the line. Instead off one replacement fuel I can see specific fuels for specific jobs methane should fit in nicely between diesel or bio diesel and electric.

    • @LordMuck
      @LordMuck  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It amazes me that folk seem to be in some kind of daze where they think we only have one fuel.
      We have ALWAYS had multiple fuels such as petrol, diesel, paraffin, TVO, LNG, Bio Fuel, Propane, Methane, electric, diesel-electric and many, many more. Currently the fuels of choice predominantly are petrol and diesel but before that it was coal.
      Specific fuels for specific jobs will become the way forward with rising prices.
