    Just finished replacement. If you release suspension on the bolt in the middle where suspension is connected to the upper part instead on the fork, you don't need to touch the sway bar link. Found rack on scrap for 60$( I had to removed it) installed and reprogramed with forscan with extended license and OBDResource FORSCan ELM327 from aliexpress 16$. 3hours work and saved 2000$.

    I got a question my wife has Ford. Fusion and it had steering recall her daughter took it to Ford they would do it because it was working. Know power steering stopped working and they won't do it. They said to many miles well we brought it when it had low miles and yall refused (not you) to do it. So know we just stuck with no power steering they did the airbag so why can you do one and not the other.

    Hello Rich, I recently acquired a 2011 2.5 fusion with 65,000 miles. It has the same issue with the steering rack. I saw your suggestion on a previous comment to reach out to Ford CRC. They were no help- just told me it passed the 10 year warranty (which I already knew). They said I could write a hand written letter to Ford Consumer Affairs to request some assist with the repair. I sent them a letter requesting assistance about 1.5 weeks ago. Do you think it’s worth my time to wait on them? Or just fix it myself?

    • @FordBossMe
      @FordBossMe  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Could be upwards of $2,000
      It's about 3 hours labor
      And then depending on the place where you get the part and how much their price gouging I would say anywhere between 800 to $1,500 for the part
      I've done them privately on the side for I don't know nine hundred bucks a thousand bucks it all depends on where you can you park from that's where all the money comes into play
      You could go after market and get a $500 steering rack and then it take like 3 hours to install and maybe make it out the door about nine hundred bucks from a garage
      Like for instance if you look at O'Reilly's they have one for 650 bucks but then they also have one for $1,100
      It all comes down to warranty and the quality
      900 bucks on the cheap side about 1500 to 2000 on the expensive side

Written differently "Thanks for the video, it helped. When I did this, I found that removing it from the passenger side was significantly easier than the drivers side. If you were to add a little comment about that at the x:00 of the video, it might help people who don't read this comment in the future. Either way thanks for the help!"

    Do you know where the ground for the steering column is? The ground for the steering column in that car transfers to the metal plate inside of the steering wheel. The ground wire for the harness inside the steering wheel screws into the metal plate in the steering wheel, transfering the ground from the metal plate to the steeeing wheel controls and clock spring. Just fixed a problem in my 2012 2.5 today where the radio steering wheel controls and wipers were operating eratically. Turns out the metal plate in the steering wheel would lose its ground when I turned the steering wheel. I just ran a new ground wire and it fixed the problem but I would like to know where the ground wire for the steering column is so that I can go back and fix that wire.

      The ground for that is down there on the actual steering rack assembly itself one of the screws that hold the shield the heat shield on the steering rack or were the actual sector shaft comes down and meets with the steering sometimes they will put it right there sometimes it's over by the connection going to the electronic power steering assist motor

    What do you normally charge

    • @FordBossMe
      @FordBossMe  ปีที่แล้ว

      This is about a three and a half hour job and then you talking the price of the power steering electronic setup so you're looking at about three and a half 4 hours so about 600 to $700 labor and then anywhere between probably $750 and 1500 for the part depending on what's available

    Would this limit speed and limit radio volume??

    • @FordBossMe
      @FordBossMe  ปีที่แล้ว

      No

    • @FordBossMe
      @FordBossMe  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What limits speed and radio volume is when somebody sets up a MyKey for like an additional driver and it basically limits the speed and radio volume and what you end up having to do is get the main admin key and have a second key made in order to wipe everything out so you'll have to go to like the dealership and tell them to cut and program two new keys and one of those keys is the admin key that you have so basically it's a safety function that somebody has turned on in the car and sometimes it can accidentally turn on when people are going through the menus the only way you can get rid of it is you need two keys and it has to be erased and reset watch my video in the library on the mykey function

      @@FordBossMe thanks....another quick questions if you can...I had ford dealership fix wiring to fix security issue last April and 1 month later my pcu went out and my AWD fusion turned into front wheel drive, would wiring cause this? After new PCU installed?? My traction control notification and dang near everything lights up. Most recent caused it to activate security and indicated safe mode after I turned key real fast to bypass security system, and that's when steering became very tough, now same Ford dealer mechanic says its my PSM...which is hard to believe after they "fixed wiring" and "fixed PCU"...They quoted 3600 to fix power steering module but I'm iffy about it as that will make it just over 6500.00 in last 8-11 months for a car I bought for 7500

    How about a video on the programming ?

    • @FordBossMe
      @FordBossMe  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The next time I get one and I can do that but literally it's under programmable module installation and IDs or you can buy a program called for scan and you can get the doggle which is another fifty bucks so your $100 out of pocket and it's in the program

      Well let's put it like this if the general person can do a job in 3 hours and that's the industry-standard but I can come along and do it and 1.5 and you pay 3 hours
      You're paying for an expert you're not paying for some Joe schmoe, when you have people that really really really good working on your stuff you pay for that just because I can do it in 1.5 doesn't mean you shouldn't be charged 3 I'm just good at what I do

      that's why we have Labor books make sure that people pay a fair price but not get penalized for a guy being good at what he does
