When people ask me what I strive for as a filmmaker, I tell them I want to get an episode in the Criterion closet. 😂 Since I was a teenager I always Google the names of the people who I don't know in the Closet episodes, and have found some of my favorite modern filmmakers that way. Thanks for continuing to post these 🙌
@Tab Ford I mean there's a certain level of craftsmanship in art I see invited in the Criterion closet, and I would love to get to that level. But on a side note... hells yeah, who doesn't want free movies? 🤔
You can't go wrong with The Parallax View. Has an amazing photography and an exhilarating pace. I would say it's always a great watch for the present times and will never feel dated with its content.
Some pretty unique picks. I always appreciate that in this closet picks. Seen somebody grab a copy of Shoah in there too. That's a heavy-hitting 9 hours of film but essential viewing.
One of my favorite bands and I saw Being There simply because Wilco named a (great) album after it. It's a wonderful film. Peter Sellers at his best. Love seeing Wilco smooshed in the closet together! Wish Mikael was there too. :)
I like that the closet picks nowadays isn't a snatch & grab hit & run situation.People taking time to tell you about their choices and very fascinating guests.
I've seen Wilco play many times - one of my all time favorites! They're from my hometown of Belleville, IL! Well, Jeff Tweedy is (started with Uncle Tupelo!).
Nice to see they picked Heart of the Dog. If you haven't seen it, it will touch your heart. I'd love Criterion to release Laurie Anderson's Home of the Brave (1986).
My favorite band in my favorite closet. My humble suggestion would be to put up a little insert of the film the person is holding up. Damn that wicked glare.
I have this feeling that the Wilco movie will be part of the criterion collection very soon. Just in time to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the movie release
Please bring some Indian filmmakers into the Criterion Closet. Anurag Kashyap is a huge fan and collector of Criterions. Or bring in Mani Ratnam, Adoor Gopalakrishnan etc. There is a glaring lack of Indian films in the collection.
THE KING OF MARVIN GARDENS: The dark side of the American Dream. Nicholson's best performance as an introverted DJ. Bruce Dean is great as the dominant brother. Ellen Burstyn gives the third superb performance.
If I could take only one album with me into space or on a desert island or in a cave in a mountain or something, Being There by Wilco. OK, it's a double album. There's no crime in that, surely.
Always love the closet. At the same time, the ratio of men to women closet participants is ridiculously uneven. Please, Criterion, more female perspectives in the closet!!!
That made me laugh, too. Since Jean-Pierre took his last name from Herman Melville, he obviously pronounced it the same way the "Moby Dick" author did.
Even bands like Wilco got to be in the Criterion Closet. That's awesome. Can't wait for the next surprising guest to be in the Criterion Closet.
I wish I can be worthy enough one day to make it to the Criterion Closet and What's In My Bag.
@@mistermcm How does one get in it anyway?
Ladytron? Nine Inch Nails? The mind boggles. 😉
@@Mr.Goodkat be famous, I presume
Would love a release of their documentary “I am trying to break your heart.”

no surprise that a band like wilco has some awesome film takes. great storytellers know a good story in any medium!
Is this a hint that Criterion is working on a I Am Trying to Break Your Heart release?
_"...I find the world to be weirder and more unpredictable than fiction is."_
--Jeff Tweedy 🎯🎯🎯💯🙏🏼 Absolutely!
That's why "truth is stranger than fiction" is a very common saying and has been for years.
Hardly surprising since most fiction is made with the same cookie cutter
Didn’t think it would work with a large group but here we are! Excellent choices. Xx
Woah wasn’t expecting this surprise!! My favorite band in the coolest closet!?!?
Some pretty unique picks. I always appreciate that in this closet picks. Seen somebody grab a copy of Shoah in there too. That's a heavy-hitting 9 hours of film but essential viewing.
I love Wilco! Seen them a few times and they’re amazing live.
Yaayyyyyyyyy!!! Wilco is my favorite band - this put a huge smile on my face this morning - thank you!!!
Of course every member of Wilco is a film nerd haha. Love these guys.
Made my day! Thanks for inviting Wilco!
One of my favorite bands and I saw Being There simply because Wilco named a (great) album after it. It's a wonderful film. Peter Sellers at his best. Love seeing Wilco smooshed in the closet together! Wish Mikael was there too. :)
I love Wilco! Did not expect them to be on here. Thank you, Criterion Collection.

First time seeing a band in the CC. That was cool. I hope you showcase more musical acts in the CC.
I've seen Wilco play many times - one of my all time favorites! They're from my hometown of Belleville, IL! Well, Jeff Tweedy is (started with Uncle Tupelo!).
That was the most optimistic interpretation of Being There I’ve ever heard
Nice to see they picked Heart of the Dog. If you haven't seen it, it will touch your heart. I'd love Criterion to release Laurie Anderson's Home of the Brave (1986).
Hoping this means an I Am Trying to Break Your Heart Blu-ray is in the works 🤞🏼
this is a nice surprise. I'm so glad I found this band few years ago.
We're gonna need a bigger closet.
Happy 55th Birthday Jeff Tweedy

I absolutely LOVE Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. I hope Wilco had fun and it looks like they absolutely did! :)
Wonderful episode! I love their genuine interest and connection with film.
this is not a pick, this is a raiiiiiiiiiiiid!!!
Get Stewart Copeland in your closet, Criterion!!!
They are so cool.
Man, I’d love 30 minutes in there too.
Nice to see Artie Lange talking about movies!
Please add I Am Trying To Break Your Heart to the collection!
My Winnipeg!!!
Your movie, my city. Cheers Wilco!
Love this band, love criterion, love this TH-cam show.
😁
Yoooo!!! Mr Freedom rules!!! Just when I thought Tweedy couldn't get any cooler!
My only complaint about Closet Picks is that, sometimes people hold up movies to the camera without naming them, and you can't read the title.
I've always loved the music of Wilco but now that I know that all of them are movie nerds I am now a fan!
im sure this will never happen but man I'd love to see some members of Radiohead (or the smile) in here!!
Thom and Jonny in there would be fucking amazing !!!
Leon Russell, SE Hinton’s Rumble Fish…Tulsa loves Wilco too
What a dream to get into this closet
I wondered why they picked band members for the Closet. I'm not wondering anymore. Those guys really love film.
There should be a list of the movies recommended. I couldn't read half of them that were shown.
I WANT THE BBS STORY! I was gonna write a book about it but couldn't get one of the B's to cooperate.
Really good one. The State Room scene from Night at the Opera,................sort of
Cool band. Discovered their music earlier this year and I was pleased. Their picks are almost all unknown to me, unlike the usual solo closeters!
Please bring some Indian filmmakers into the Criterion Closet. Anurag Kashyap is a huge fan and collector of Criterions. Or bring in Mani Ratnam, Adoor Gopalakrishnan etc. There is a glaring lack of Indian films in the collection.
Mr. Freedom is a trip
Love them!
If we knock on the criterion front door and ask nicely do u think they’ll let us have the OOP titles still in this closet
You guys should get Spoon to do one of these.
Found Parallax View and 3 Days of the Condor at the same time
To quote the great Tom Servo: "Great blocking, this scene was well thought-out".
This is SO good.
4:12 Was he quoting Urkel?
Yes
THE KING OF MARVIN GARDENS: The dark side of the American Dream. Nicholson's best performance as an introverted DJ. Bruce Dean is great as the dominant brother. Ellen Burstyn gives the third superb performance.
Criterion, can you please make all your collection available to buy that work on UK DVD players? Worldwide for that matter
Get a region free player. I did a few years ago and it was a game changer.
I'd like to see Ween in the closet now!!
@4:12.. I love the Steve Urkel reference lol
If I could take only one album with me into space or on a desert island or in a cave in a mountain or something, Being There by Wilco. OK, it's a double album. There's no crime in that, surely.
Keep them coming
"Heart of a Dog" has had a huge existential impact on me...now I truly believe 40 days after you die, your soul enter a new body and starts a new life
If I were there, I would only take two movies, Bicycle Thieves and Breathless
very hyped to see that wilco likes the parallax view lmao
Have a letter in the latest issue of Uncut with Wilco on the cover!
I ♥️ WILCO
JIM O"ROURKE CLOSET EPISODE NOW!!
*He lives in Japan bro*
DETAILS!
Came here for Jim O'Rourke name-drop, wasn't disappointed
Can't wait for Liam Gallaghers turn
May we please now have a song entitled "Together in the Criterion Closet" or some such? Thanks.
Very interesting
Think there'd be anything Baz Luhrmann would be interested in in the closet?
Where was Mikael? I would have loved to see his picks.
Yes...that was weird
omg Jeff Tweedy picked My Winnipeg ….👍🏻👍🏻
No one picked This Is Spinal Tap….. true classic 😎
This was made for me. Wtf thank you.
Is that Andy Warhol?
My first thought
Tips for people in The Closet: Please hold up the movie, so we can see the cover; or, articulate Clearly the title!
awesome
Can I go next?
Let Motley Crue go next
Can they read?
If Wilco can do this then I can do this.
craaazy
super!
We need Jim O'Rourke in the closet!!!
How do you have trouble with fiction?
was this video made specifically for me????
cool
We're going to be late 😂
This closet is the reward you get for making it to the end of the backrooms
Please invite RiffTrax to your closet, Criterion!
if you're getting all sorts in, get Nick Drnaso in! he has a new book, he'd choose some great stuff I bet
Say the title!
Always love the closet. At the same time, the ratio of men to women closet participants is ridiculously uneven. Please, Criterion, more female perspectives in the closet!!!
maybe girls don’t wanna be in some weird little closet?
Wait WHAT?
MEL-VEE-YA… can't stop laughing… If that's how Melville pronounced his name I wanna know how he pronounced "samurai"
That made me laugh, too. Since Jean-Pierre took his last name from Herman Melville, he obviously pronounced it the same way the "Moby Dick" author did.
I hope I never have to get in front of a camera and pretend I find anything that intriguing.
Too many people in there at once doesn't feel personal I like to 1 or 2 people in there at the most
