Positive Grid Spark 40 (Part 4) - John Mayer Two Rock Tone

In the first 3 Positive Grid Spark 40 videos, we shared our first impression, played through the different channel settings, went through the smart Jam features and provided a step by step explanation on creating a Lush Ambient Clean.
In this part 4 video, we will attempt to create a John Mayer Tone with the Two Rock amp. This patch is set to be clean but more towards the break up point. When the volume is rolled down, the amp cleans up and it becomes less overdriven. We added in tremolo on the cleans and later on added in overdrive so give that nice John Mayer bluesy lead tone. We recorded the sounds via Spark 40 USB into our computer.

I also agree this is a great series! Keep it going! Your ambient video is excellent. Please please please show us how to build a 12-string Rickenbacker tone similar to The Beatles "I Call Your Name", a real chiming tone. The tone bank just doesn't have a good Ric sound yet. Great vid! Your tone is so rich and smooth yet mine is harsh and brittle using both my Variax JTV-69 on mags and my Fender Tele. Any ideas what's causing that and how I improve the tone?

Cool demo, thanks. I'm leaning towards Spark as opposed to Yamaha THR30, which I had to return: just couldn't dial in tones to my satisfaction with my EJ Strat. Spark sounds better to my ears, certainly the bottom end is fuller than THR30.
That Strat; is that a Custom Shop? It really sounds good.

Our hiss is mainly due to the single coil pickups :)

@@GuitarEmerge I have a kinman noiceless pickup for my tokai and also a les paul epiphone but still hear that hiss. so I gave up and use other model instead for clean tone. Though I really love that glassy sound from it but unfortunately Im so annoyed with the hiss sound.

Yea the gate is already on, didnt want to put the level too high as it will affect the sustain. :)

I don't understand why PG didn't have the complete FX 2 built in to the Spark since with FX 2 Mobile going out into an aux in on a full range speaker you will get be able to get ALL amps, pedals, selectable signal chain etc...just as if they had FX 2 built in...

great playing but the hum is unbeliveable at such low gain. Are you sure everyting is ok with your amp and your power socket is properly grounded?

The guitar itself is a 1954 and the pickups are quite noisy to start with :) I used USB to record and it eliminated the ground hum from the spark 40. What you hear is the pickup noise.

Nice video. I found that the noise gate cuts off sound too quickly. Did you feel the same?

Have you tried lowering the noise gate? Works ok for us. :) if your guitar is, low output, better to keep the noise gate low.

They have a compressor called sustainer. It helps with the high end cutoff I hear from the gate.
