I was born in Chicago in the Daley era. I will not even visit that city today. The current Mayor is an utter disgrace, and it's too dangerous to visit the museums or other places I used to bring my children to. The lady interviewed is right you have to have eyes in the back of your head. I feel empathy for the people who live there, and my heart goes out to all those losing loved ones. It's the parents we have to stop blaming people for your children's behavior. 1:17.....technically, the kid had every legal right to be on the street. The curfew starts at 11:00pm and the shooting started at "just before 11:00pm".
I saw a surreal press conference in which Lightfoot was announcing a curfew because of out of control teens rampaging through the parks and beaches. A reporter asked the mayor what charges could be filed against those who violated the curfew...will they be arrested? The mayor looked indignant and gaslighted the reporter by replying, "Why you wanna get people arrested?"

The problem right now is that you have the police doing their job. It's easy go find the bad guy arrest the bad person and put them in jail. Easy enough until you have politics that steps in. You have district attorneys right now across this country that are flat out refusing to follow the laws that they swore to uphold. Okay now you have a prosecutor that is doing their job now you have judges releasing people on bail that are accused of murder. How many times in the past year I'm not talking two three four years ago I'm talking about recent time. How many news stories have you seen when somebody is killed and you find out that the killer was already arrested and was waiting trial for another murder but a judge released them. Nothing is going to stop violent crime until we decide to seriously do something. Every day in this country you have criminals getting arrested with guns. There are laws right now that would put this criminal away for a good bit of time. Problem district attorneys are not charging them for possession of a firearm by a felon they charge them for a lesser crime so that way it makes the difference attorneys office look good that they are taken off the street people who might be robbing or selling drugs anything other than a gun charge. There was a person in Baltimore about 5 years ago that at 4:00 in the morning was arrested for selling drugs and possession of a firearm. Went in front of a judge at 9:00 in the morning instead of keeping him there the judge ordered him to start going back to high school and buy a certain date if he could bring proof that he was back in school all charges were going to be dropped. Now you think he is going to take advantage of the opportunity then you would be wrong. Before 12:00 that same day the same person with the same exact crime possession of a firearm and selling drugs. Just so happens to go back in front of the same judge from earlier. Judge told him this will be your last chance to take advantage of turning your life around. So once again back on the streets. Now we are at 4:30 in the afternoon of the same day. This time for some unknown reason he thought an old man sitting in a park doing nothing but reading a book had money on him and shot and killed this person. Hours later he was picked up and this time the court had no other choice but to keep him in jail this time. Nothing at all happened to the judge that allowed this to happen. This is happening every day in this country it might not end in a murder but people are going right back on the streets when there are laws that could keep them in jail. What's up for free a good person from a bad person consequences. Good people don't want to go to jail they don't want to face any consequences that would interfere with their life. Bad people don't care and now there really is it consequences when committing crimes. So bad people don't really worry about anything but when there was a slim chance that consequences what's going to catch up with them that held them back somewhat. Now they know there is no punishment for their actions.

In Chicago the mayor is a Democrat. The police Superintendent is appointed by city leadership. The DA is a Democrat.. The AG is a Democrat. 46 of 50 Aldermen are Democrats. Four are Independents. The issue in Chicago is not racial, it is cultural. They are also the fault of the Democratic Party. The most recent Republican mayor of Chicago served from 1927-1931.
It's easier to just leave the city than to deal with the shady political dealings of the state/city. 4 out of the last 10 governors have spent time in federal prison. The city's police have a long storied history filled with corruption which includes their own ilegal blacksites for holding and interrogation. Chicago has always been special in the sense that it is a good representation on how the rest of the country sits and I don't think now is any different. Frankly, these kind of stories are happening everywhere in this country. We no longer live in a country ran and ruled by community, but rather one ran and ruled by greed, ego, money, and violence.

People charged with gun crimes are back out on the street the same day, there's no consequences. If you get caught with an illegal gun, it should be automatic five year sentence, and you do every day of the time, not early release. If you commit a crime with an illegal gun, then ten years for the gun, and that runs consecutively with whatever other crimes you commit. And no bail either; you don't see natural light again until your sentence is completed. If you straw purchase for someone, or sell guns on the street, same thing, or as a gun shop owner or FOIA carrier, "legally" sell a gun to someone who doesn't have the right to carry it, then ten years if convicted, and do every day, no early release. The burden is on you to know who you're selling to. And for God's sake make ghost guns illegal! If politically nothing can be done about neighboring states selling guns willy-nilly, then do something about those who illegally buy, carry and shoot them. That stop has always been trouble,for years. A Mcdonald's near the Mag Mile by a Red Line stop is a much too easy place to hang out at if you live on that line and potential troublemakers to get off at. If they close that location as well the other fast food around there and have 24 hour cameras and police presence,they could cut down on the crime. A reporter asked the mayor what charges could be filed against those who violated the curfew...will they be arrested? The problem right now is that you have the police doing their job. It's easy go find the bad guy arrest the bad person and put them in jail. Easy enough until you have politics that steps in. You have district attorneys right now across this country that are flat out refusing to follow the laws that they swore to uphold.
Okay now you have a prosecutor that is doing their job now you have judges releasing people on bail that are accused of murder. How many times in the past year I'm not talking two three four years ago I'm talking about recent time. How many news stories have you seen when somebody is killed and you find out that the killer was already arrested and was waiting trial for another murder but a judge released them.
Nothing is going to stop violent crime until we decide to seriously do something. Every day in this country you have criminals getting arrested with guns. There are laws right now that would put this criminal away for a good bit of time. Problem district attorneys are not charging them for possession of a firearm by a felon they charge them for a lesser crime so that way it makes the difference attorneys office look good that they are taken off the street people who might be robbing or selling drugs anything other than a gun charge.
There was a person in Baltimore about 5 years ago that at 4:00 in the morning was arrested for selling drugs and possession of a firearm. Went in front of a judge at 9:00 in the morning instead of keeping him there the judge ordered him to start going back to high school and buy a certain date if he could bring proof that he was back in school all charges were going to be dropped.
Now you think he is going to take advantage of the opportunity then you would be wrong. Before 12:00 that same day the same person with the same exact crime possession of a firearm and selling drugs. Just so happens to go back in front of the same judge from earlier. Judge told him this will be your last chance to take advantage of turning your life around. So once again back on the streets.
Now we are at 4:30 in the afternoon of the same day. This time for some unknown reason he thought an old man sitting in a park doing nothing but reading a book had money on him and shot and killed this person. Hours later he was picked up and this time the court had no other choice but to keep him in jail this time. Nothing at all happened to the judge that allowed this to happen.
This is happening every day in this country it might not end in a murder but people are going right back on the streets when there are laws that could keep them in jail.
What's up for free a good person from a bad person consequences. Good people don't want to go to jail they don't want to face any consequences that would interfere with their life. Bad people don't care and now there really is it consequences when committing crimes. So bad people don't really worry about anything but when there was a slim chance that consequences what's going to catch up with them that held them back somewhat. Now they know there is no punishment for their actions.

It's easier to just leave the city than to deal with the shady political dealings of the state/city. 4 out of the last 10 governors have spent time in federal prison. Chicago has always been special in the sense that it is a good representation on how the rest of the country sits and I don't think now is any different. Frankly, these kind of stories are happening everywhere in this country. We no longer live in a country ran and ruled by community, but rather one ran and ruled by greed, ego, money, and violence.

Unfortunately, security in Chicago is poor. This is one of the largest and most important cities in America, and indeed in the world. It should be safer and this an important city should have a very strong government apparatus. The big problem in Chicago is the lack of security. The city is wonderful, but security is missing. I hope things get better soon. Chicago deserves better.

If you get caught with an illegal gun, it should be automatic five year sentence, and you do every day of the time, not early release. If you commit a crime with an illegal gun, then ten years for the gun, and that runs consecutively with whatever other crimes you commit. And no bail either; you don't see natural light again until your sentence is completed. If you straw purchase for someone, or sell guns on the street, same thing, or as a gun shop owner or FOIA carrier, "legally" sell a gun to someone who doesn't have the right to carry it, then ten years if convicted, and do every day, no early release. The burden is on you to know who you're selling to. And for God's sake make ghost guns illegal! If politically nothing can be done about neighboring states selling guns willy-nilly, then do something about those who illegally buy, carry and shoot them. The problem is the proliferation of guns; they're so plentiful now they've become cheap. Stop molly-coddling these devils and get tough!
