@@aliyaa995there’s a scene when they are at the forbidden forest when Voldemort had used Avada Kedavra on him the first time and he didn’t die. Narcissa was the one who went forward to check if Harry was actually dead and knew he wasn’t. She whispered and asked Harry if Draco was still alive and Harry just nodded his head slightly to confirm that Draco was alive. And that’s when she announced that Harry was dead to Voldemort and the others, hiding the fact that he’s alive and protecting him. She was the only one who knew but didn’t say it to the others.

I’ll never forget JKR saying Draco didn’t deserve a redemption arc because there was never “a heart of gold” underneath it all. How can you create & write a character who spent his entire life surrounded by death eaters & pure blood purists, who was never allowed to entertain any other beliefs and then completely ignore all the personal growth you gave him? I get he doesn’t have this huge obvious change in thinking but the Draco at Malfoy Manor and later the battle of Hogwarts is a far cry from the smarmy little twit we all met getting fitted for robes in Diagonal Alley.

Malfoys was superiority and respect. that is not what they were getting with Voldy winning. so even though they all help Harry in some way, its for self preservation. You could argue that Draco actually doesnt mind Potter and would rather have been friends at a young age, but it also so bother him. The Malfoys arent necessarly bad, they are arrogantly proud.

It also confuses me because it makes it seem like either (1) Draco knew about the Deathly Hallows or (2) he threw Harry his wand for no reason, neither of which make sense. The other thing is that movie!Draco stans make him out to be a better man than he is. Yes, he was brainwashed. Yes, by the end he knew who was right and who was wrong and in his heart supported Harry's side. But Draco is also a coward and this is a consistent theme in his character. At the end, Draco is a person who knows what's right and what's wrong but doesn't have the courage to do it. Movie!Draco stans don't want to admit this but it's true.

We clearly can see how Draco didn’t want to join his parents on the dark side. He clearly has daddy issues because he looked stubborn when Lucius called his name, whereas with his mother it was different. I assume she’s the only one who ever showed him the slightest bit of love. He glanced around him wanting someone to stop him, one person to help him and no one did.
Edit: y'all arguing in the cs is so disappointing. Yes I have read the books, and watched the films, MANY times. So if people could stop talking to me w condescension in their voice it would be nice 💀
Also from what I've gathered from the entire series is that Lucius instilled in Draco so much fear and distrust in him. Lucius is manipulative. Draco is constantly trying to please his father and it's never good enough. But with his mother it's different. She's the one who asked after him when Lord Voldemort "killed" harry a second time, and she's the one who went to snape to save her son etc. Y'all trying to make it seem like draco and lucius had some great father-son dynamic,,, but they don't. Lucius only needed draco as an heir.

In the movies The chamber of secrets for some reason they made it seem as if Draco was trying to find some approval from Lucius. Not in the other movies though. But it wasn't really that, Lucius loved Draco, and Draco adored his father! Idk why y'all invented this fake scenario of Lucius being a cruel family man with his wife and kid and Narcissa being a super good mother being strong for his son. This is not at all the situation. Lucius and Narcissa loved each other, they both treated their son as a prince and spoiled him. Draco just could do a drama and boom Lucius was capable of sending an innocent like Buckbeack to be killed and threatening another members to be agree with this, just because his son cried. Im glad the deleted scene was kept out of the film. A much as people want a Draco 'redemption' arc (and I'm obsessed with Draco), it just wouldn't have been a realistic action for him to do. The closest we get to Draco's potential change in heart is in the astronomy tower where Dumbledore executes Draco's turmoil and shines a light on the reality that he is a product of his own environment. In that scene, Draco was even lowering his wand, according to Harry, his enemy, but didn't get another chance to think twice as the Death Eaters turned up quickly and his life was still at stake. Little hints afterwards like in Malfoy Manor when he doesn't identify Harry, subtly tell us where his moral compass lies and the curt nod to the Golden trio 19 years later wraps up his character as he's now matured into a more open minded man.
Also, the film version we got is emphatic because we see two significant things here. 1) Draco joining the Death Eaters when his MOTHER calls him, whereas he's reluctant with his dad. This summs up the role of motherhood in the plot and his literal daddy issues. 2) His hug with Voldemort, although improvised, was the only hug he'd ever received. I just think it's really cool how they did it in the film

The reason why I, and many others believe that this scene should not have been cut is because without it, our last impression of Draco is frankly, a death eater. Had this been included in the final cut, it would have shown a new side of Draco, and we would discover that Draco did basically everything on his fathers orders, and he is truly a good person inside. The movies could have ended with many of our favourite characters being Draco.

Especially as Draco needs to be giving Harry his own wand, the one Harry already has because he stole it from him in Malfoy manor. There’s even a scene in this same film where Draco tries to get it back and doesn’t. So he can’t have had the wand to throw to him in the first place

Even though this is a good scene, it couldn't have been canon 😔:
    1. This was just a practice shoot...
    2. This isn't canon to the book.
    3. Draco did not have a wand to throw to Harry. His own wand was stolen by Harry himself in Malfoy Manor in Deathly Hallows (movie: Part I) when Harry wrests their own wands out of his hand and takes Draco’s as well in the process. The wand having been won over by Harry, shifts its allegiance to him (the wand chooses the wizard, Mr. Potter). This is explained by Ollivander a little later on in DH Part II. During the Battle of Hogwarts, Draco is using his mother’s wand, while Harry is using what used to be Draco’s wand. But Narcissa’s wand is also lost in the fire that engulfs the Room of Requirement. His father’s wand was taken by Voldemort earlier on to be used against Harry. The Malfoys do not have any wands left.
If these factors weren't in between, I would have loved this scene
    4. Come on people, Voldemort has a nose... Of course this can't be cannon 😂.

"it's not canon to the book" a lot of shit in the movies isn't. Remember the spew subplot about the house elves that lasted way too fucking long? Don't even mention the house elves of Hogwarts. Remember Peeves existing? Not even a remnant of his existence. The eldest brothers of the Weasley family? Where? Many scenes changed to have Hermione say something Ron did, like in Azkaban she steps up to Sirius meanwhile in the books it's Ron with his mangled leg. Not everything has to be accurate or is. That's the point of an adaptation.

Nope, I wanted a better redemption arc for Draco even as a somewhat book purist (not having watched the movies, he was one of my favorite characters). Even though he did and said a lot of bad things, it was really how he was raised that shaped his worldview, and he was just an immature kid with loving but misguided parents, thrust into a position of responsibility. Yes, Harry was also given a lot of responsibility, but Draco is honestly a realistic character who didn't get what he was raised to expect, and showed growth and morality.
