Man, Dweezil is the man! But I do hear people all of the time talking about the distortion plus as not having enough distortion, and generally not sounding very good, but the way Randy used it was more of a boost to his overall tone. He drove his amp harder and then had the pedal on top of that, most people just plug it in clean and complain about it's sound without experimenting with the amp settings to find the right sound, I've used one of these for a little while now and I like the way it sounds on my board more than my OCD pedal, it's all about experimenting to find your sound. You can't just use the same amp settings with a bunch of different pedals and expect it to sound like the sound in your head, you have to work to get it.

I used one for years, produced in the Randy era. It was beige. Terrific pedal. Whole whole trick with it was not to crank it all the way but just enough to get you over the edge. I used it with three amps: a JMP reissue stack, a Peavey Classic, and a Peavey Bandit. It sounded best with the Classic and the JMP. If you have an amp with enough of a growl and presence, it gets you as far over the edge as you need to be if you play hard rock and traditional metal.

Randy's Altec Landsing speakers were a huge part of what set his tone apart and made it scream wih clarity. Randy himself said when he played his setup thru a standard celestion cab, it sounded horrible. He wanted NO spkr breakup at all. Zakk didn't want spkr breakup either which is why he's always used 300 EV spkrs in his cabs.

From Bob Mould to Dave Murray, Jerry Garcia to Roland St. Howard and of course Randy Rhoads this pedal can cover so much ground. This, a Black Russian Big Muff and Fulltone Queen Bee and I’m covered. Dweezil is such an incredible guitar player. A fun piece of trivia I always loved is that Stevie Ray Vaughan used jimi hendrix wah pedal. The exact same pedal. So Jimi's version of voodoo child, and Stevie's version of voodoo child, used the exact same wah pedal on both versions. Basically Stevie's brother Jimmy Vaughan played a bit with hendrix as a support band, and jimi gave him his wah pedal. And then Jimmy knew how much SRV idolised Hendrix, so he gave him that wah pedal, and stevie used it for his whole career.
I think I remember hearing once he used it in conjunction with another wah pedal, like he nailed a bit of wood to both pedals so that if you pushed one down they'd both go down together, so when both were turned on at the same time you get double wah. Maybe I'm misremembering, or that story is about another guitarist and I'm confusing them. But if it was Stevie, I just think how nuts it is to have jimi hendrix's actual wah pedal, and sticking a fucking nail through it to conjoin it to another pedal. I'd baby that thing forever, if I had it.

They've made at least 8 different versions of the pedal called distortion +. It's the same as a ford mustang car. How many versions of the ford mustang car? They're all different. So, in reality, you're not really communicating with people. It's like saying you know ford mustang cause you bought the 2015 model. Humans need to communicate and do it effectively. It's MXR's most high fidelity distortion pedal series. Whatever version you buy.

Yeah, he's distorting the truth to add to his Internet fame and eventually his alternative bank account. It just goes to show, we all have been ripped off by these companies for decades, but eventually, the religious family who survived randy's death, realised they needed to complete the brand by selling the modded marshall. But NOW, in 2018, this Zappa man doesn't realise the 2010 version of this thing isn't the 1979 version of this thing. At least with cars, buyers didn't drive the Toyota as if it was sterling moss's car. Electric guitarists have been totally exploited, always. Don't be cheap! Buy all 10 RR pedals and you won't be disappointed in your multiple RANDY RHOADS DISTORTION SOUNDs the big name brands have made for you! I'm STILL NOT going to buy any D, Zappa music product in 2019. We're more wise than you. All thanks to exploitation of the past. We do get wise and complete the full setup that works.

Yep I know having built my own exact circuit clone (1979-1980) from scratch and refurbishing a D+ that had a fried PCB so I made a replica board. The 250 has a nice mid-range tone that I like better.

Yeah, humans do that with stuff that is just too good to go in the trash. They pushed up the price of old 1940's telephones too, so how smart are humans? The price goes up effect, just means there's millions of humans surrounding you. It's fly type of behaviour, not Christian human behaviour on a rock spinning in outer space. There's NO MEANING in numbers. Only a bunch of human insects manipulating numbers.

absolutely not a dis at all in any way, i love zappa and his music but if i would never have guessed by looking at him and hearing him speak, that he's franks son. often the case with father and son they are very alike but i can't see it here. but in the guitar playing yes very much so.
