Okay, you said alot about the characteristics: lots of head bumps, affectionate, but are they black and white? I looked up breeds a few years ago to figure out what my cat was. It seemed to be a Norwegian Forest cat according to the chart. But after seeing this, I'm not so sure now. He has white on his belly and nose, and black on top. The tail is not as fluffy as described. He is long hair. I don't think he is a Tuxedo kitty. The pics I've seen show short-hair as tux kitties. So I'm still watching to figure out if he is a NF-cat. Finally, he nag's (meows) at me all the time. I think he always wants attention which is a big characteristic of him.
I adopted a N.F. cat from a lad who wanted to move to a city for a better job. This was about 3 yrs. ago. I absolutely fell in love with him from the get-go & he follows me into the garden & back yard & sleeps on my pillow. He's such a great friend to have & I love him to pieces.
We got our Norwegian out of our trash bins!! Someone abandoned this gorgeous cat in our neighborhood. We were quick to scoop her up and nurse her back to health. Now she's one of the most treasured members of our family with a large personality! She loves being doted on and sleeping in our bed!
I have one now and I am very anxious about it. Since I am from Turkey I found it on the street since he is 3/4 months old. He was criticaly sick from his lungs and when I went to the vet they told me he may not see the old ages. My cat is perfectly healthy now after the immune system supporters. Nevertheless I am still worried about. Did your cat had a similar illness? If so how was his condition after 1 years old?
My neighbours have one, in his younger years he was known for hunting rabbits and became like the king of the street, no cat messed with him, and he even put respect into some larger dogs. We think that their cat alone killed most of the rats or mice where we live. I'm still convinced that their cat could kill and drag home a boar if he wanted to, but now he's old and they say he's more lazy now.
I've got a 13 yr old male who is still the dominant force where we live. A few dogs have tried, all have learned the hard way. And yet he is the sweetest cuddle monster with people.
Had Maine Coons and NFC all my life. They are all so beautiful yet so different from each other. They really choose their favourite human out of the household and I was always the one they chose because I adore them and shower them with my love. I really want to adopt a cat again, I hope that my financial situation will better so I can get one :)
Is it possible to have a "runt" NFC? I ask because I have 3 cats all different. The youngest one looks very much like a NFC, however she is small. She's actually the smallest of my 3. She was the only kitten in her mother's litter. I never got to see her mother or father so I've been on a search to find out what she is!! She has the face structure of a NFC, the long fur, furry ears. She truly looks different than any other cat I've ever had throughout my life. The only 2 things that makes me think she may not be a NFC is she is small & very, VERY vocal. She is 4 years old now but still the size of an older kitten. I am baffled. Any help would be appreciated!!
@@kellyupdyke8141 I think probably so, being small it may be a runt fluke (fluke being tiny rather than just smaller) or some other breed is lurking in her genes to make her so. My MC has some other breed in him too but he has more of MC gene taking over and MCs and NFCs are very similar. Mine is a yapper..especially when he wants to play longer than I want to give. Usually if I play chase with him for about 5 mins then shower him w hugs & kisses that usually quiets him down. Or I get the fur comb & comb him. There's all kinds if books on breeds of cats you can read up on.
@@autumnfeldpausch5539 I'm also wondering if my kitty has Angora in her. Her fur is the softest I've ever felt on a cat and her tail is almost as long as she is but it goes like straight up and the hair fans out. She is absolutely beautiful, but different!! No matter what she is, I love her, I'm just always curious as to what breed she is!!
I hope youe financial situation gots better and I would like to recommend you Turkey. There are free NFCs on the streets walking and dying because of hunger, cold, humans, dogs and now goverment. Money currency is very low in Turkey so for the passport and ticket you can't pay much then 200 Euro. Pls tought about it you can save one life
This video confirms a lot about the two (cross-breed) Wegies we had. Both adorable, both adoring - neither wanting to sit on laps, but both loving cuddles; both great hunters (of other people's bins mostly, but brought in frogs too); both highly intelligent and neither interested in play once they found out how the pompom on the string worked - I kid you not. She started following and then I watched her eyes travel up the string, back along the stick to my hand, and she gave me such a look of disdain and then walked away! They fought with each other, but never attacked us, even though my daughter (when she came along) used to corner them under the dining room table (they were scared of her - but never scratched her). Toffee (the toffee-coloured boy) liked to sleep across the back of my armchair, purring in one ear, his long furry tail swishing across the side of my face, and Sweetie (his sister) slept along my side in the armchair, with my right arm half wrapped round her, her front paws loosely held my my right hand). Also, tragically we lost our darling boy at 12 and his sister at 15 from cascade organ failure (yes, her kidneys). That was 2007, and we've spent the last 13 years mourning them both and wondering where we're going to find Wegies to replace them.
Leoni Marks. I just lost my Norwegian Forest cat right before Christmas. My Abby, She was the most beautiful loving cuddly cat I ever had. Although I feel like I still need more time to grieve her loss, I would like to get one again and feel the same as you. I don't even know where to begin to find one of these gorgeous beautiful cats. I got lucky and found my Abby at a shelter. This is not a typical find in a shelter. I just happened to be at the right place at the right time. She was my life and I miss her so much!
Be aware of High Blood Pressure in cats everyone! So easy to control at vet's. *It's the real killer!* It's the often cause to Kidney malfunctions, Bad sight, Hearing, Teeth and mouth problems and a lot of other "normal" cat problems. And we are talking about Really high BP, twice what a human can have! Hadn't heard of this until about 20 years ago and now my cats getting over 20y everyone without problems, when they need medicine (Amlodipin) in very small doses sprinkled on their own feed. 0.65 mg daily for a 4 kg cat. And have continual BP checks twice a year.
They are a beautiful, well-mannered, playful cat breed! I would get one if they were not so expensive! By the way, the videos on the playlist on my channel might interest some people!
Sitting here in Sweden (in vikings old capital city) with a neutered male "Skogis" beside me. He moved in to my farm this winter from a "next door" horse stable where he lived before all his life as "free roaming", so he has been at me before on visit. He is only 21 years now! Healthy in all with good teeth and fur. Have a little to low weight, a little bit high blood pressure, a little weak kidneys, hearing not so good so he is very loud and have bad near memory. That's just like me (except the weight) in my age, so we take the same medicins! ;D Nearby vet's adore him and have give me an offer to use him for education on new personell and have free care instead. Always so cool in every situation! He love my other cats (which some are far relatives to him). But if the young brats say something bad to him he chases them with extreme speed for his age up in nearest oak tree, there the small ones only can get away on the thin branches. Really must check out everything happening and are mostly outside if he can decide himself (I have catdoors everywhere). He is a very dominant patriarch over every animal incl dogs, steers, horses, foxes, "my" female badger and me. We all agrees to this because he can stare us in order! Never ever uses his claws or teeths against anyone. Loves going in car and explore or take walkabouts with me or other animals. Still a good hunter for big birds, rodents and snakes witch he of course give to me indoors. But a lot demanding about food and time for me to cuddle and groom him. But he is worth it at his age dear Lurvas / "Curly"! Ps. I think he shed about 100 000 underpelt hairs a day just now! Haha! Have you ever seen YT channel "honeysada" and his female cat Nanny so have you a good picture of how Lurvas look like (but bigger) and have same mentality. And they booth love warm weather also! Pure Norwegian Forest Cats are really the best!!!
I had a male norwegian which had actual Norway registrated cats in his pedigree. He was 3 months old when i got him and he past away after being assulted by two hunting dogs at our home at the age of 18 years old. If it had been just one dog i think he would have made it. Rest In Peace my beloved viking warrior.
@@Saber23I'm not trying to be rude, but what exactly was legal about that situation? In what universe can I allow my uncontrolled hunting dogs to trespass on private property to kill a non-target/non-game animal? That hunter at a minimum needs to pay for the cat, pay compensation for inconvenience, and be banned from hunting with dogs for five years. In my state you're allowed to own pretty much any animal you want, but whatever that animal does to anything is treated in a legal sense as if you did it. Bit a kid? You bit that kid. Killed a cat? No, you did that. Mauls the mailman? Wrong, you dove out of the bush and ripped him open. And if your dog gets shot while destroying property (like killing pets) there's not even a citation for it. That's a "good shoot" as far as The State is concerned. Am I missing something absolutely basic about this case here? This sounds blatantly outrageous to me and wouldn't be tolerated at all literally anywhere I've lived.
@@YogithaKrishna-hd6fc thanks for mentioning Kittisaurus I lost my laptop about a month ago and all of the contacts or videos that I watched and I was thinking about them a couple of nights ago and could not think of their names thanks again
My little wegie cross is EVERYTHING you’ve described 😺 He especially loves climbing effortlessly over 8ft fences and shimmying like lightening up vertical pine trees 😹 Honestly, in my opinion, access to explore the outdoors is a must with this breed. 💟
You are blessed to have one! They are a beautiful, well-mannered, playful cat breed! I would get one if they were not so expensive! By the way, the videos on the playlist on my channel might interest some people!
I have a Norwegian Forest cat - she is beautiful and sweet. She is by far the most quiet, gentle kitty I have ever had. I would caution anyone who wants to care for one: they need to be groomed a LOT. Once or twice a week is not enough - especially in molting/shedding seasons. Daily grooming is necessary to avoid matting. Her paws are enormous and her claws grow into strong, wicked hooks. Regular claw trimming is necessary.
We have a Black and white Norwegian Forest cat (which makes him look like a Puma) and he Truly is special. When he was still young, there would occasionaly be a confrontation with other cats in our yard, but as he grew taller and stronger (than other normal cats) he completely dominated his territory. While other cats hunt mice, our he occasionaly comes home with rabbits, birds and large rats. He broke his tail, leg and chin and every time the doctor said he would'nt recover, he somehow still did and amazed everyone. Despite all this he does indeed love everyone unconditionally and loves affection. They truly are a special breed.
I thought the cat I rescued was related to a Norwegian Forest cat.....but now I'm convinced he is 100%. Everything you say is exactly him! He is so unique, & I adore him. Thanks for providing the info!
I have a Norwegian Forest cat here in Norway. He is the most amazing cat I ever had. Im 32 years old and had cats all my life. He loves cuddles, wanna sleep on my lap most of the day when he don't play. He's afraid of strangers. It takes time but when he gets to know people he just wanna cuddle. I can walk around with him in hours on my shoulder, or having him in my lap. He decide when we are going to bed. We sleep together. When he was hurt we went to the wet. We got it for free because they had never seen such a calm cat before, and they fall in love with him.
My norwegian forest cat ; Arrived to his new home, the size of an apple. A miniature tiger. With a temper to match.... Used all the living room furniture as climbing tools. Finally reached the top of the book shelves.... From where he spied his kingdom, like a mountain lion. Frequently used the curtains as climbing ladders. Kicked away all the flower pots he didn't like the looks of. From the window sills. Skydived (withou shute), from the second floor balcony on day four. Landing head first in a pile of snow. (Sulked for hours, at the insult of being retrieved.) Chose my room for his own. Including my bed. Must have reached puberty at 3 months, as he started humping my teddy bear, while shredding it. Picked a fight with every tom cat in the neighbourhood. Had a vet record of stitches after said fights. At 6 months. Spooked the living daylights out of the dogs on our street. Including a crazy chihuahua, a beagle, a collie, a mongrel terrier, and two german sheperds.... There's never a dull moment with a forest cat in da housssse ! 🐱😉 Love from Norway 💖🇳🇴
I have one which we found living under a car when he was 6 weeks old, i never thought he was a race like this!! however because he’s so beautiful and his fur so elegant everyone always said he was probably a rare race. He is the light of our home and i definitely recommend it as a pet
I have a Norwegian, I not so sure about the not being chatty. She is the most talkative cat I know. She have dozens on sounds all meaning different things. Loves to play fetch. Super needy. Wants to be the center of my attention all the time,is very friendly with people, but soon gets jealous of my attention going elsewhere. It can get annoying, she hates being locked out of my room and will cry at the door. Follows me around everywhere. Extremely dog like, and very mischievous.
i highly suspect that my indoor/outdoor cat is a Norwegian Forest Cat. He matches nearly every physical trait of one and he is able to climb rocks as well. His nails are super sharp but he never ever scratches or bites anyone. Hes not quite as fluffy but he is very long haired. He is my little lion 🦁
You are blessed to have one! They are a beautiful, well-mannered, playful cat breed! I would get one if they were not so expensive! By the way, the videos on the playlist on my channel might interest some people!
I've had my NFC for 10 years now, he's not exactly as outgoing as this video implies though. He's nice to just about everyone but for the most part he only wants me. Anytime I sit down he wants to sit on my lap with me. He waits at the door for me when I get home from work, and when I go to bed he sleeps on my chest under the blankets. While under the blanket he tends to kind of dig his claws into my arm (not deep) but enough to where you can feel it, and also likes to bite my arm (not hard) but does this at least 3 or 4 times before he settles down and goes to sleep. He's done this ever since he was a kitten so I've grown used to it, my wife on the other hand doesn't like to lay with him because of this.
Norwegian forest cats are very curious when it comes to their owner and they really like following and being around their owner, especially if they are inside cats and don\t spend too much time outside :) Also they are very competetive around cats of their gender unless it's their owner so no problem being two kings or queens in the same house
I have a Norwegian Forest cat and he hates other animals. When I adopted him they told me he can't be around other pets or he will attack them. But I can confirm that my cat is very clingy and gets very hyper at night and runs around a lot.
Mine is absolutely in love with my black lab and she likes other cats if she’s the one in charge. Cat personalities can somewhat be generalized but no matter what theyre their own lil guys/girls.
I had a NFC for 20 years. He loved me and I did love him. These cats get near only to one member of the familiy and I was the lucky one. He loved me, but he scratched me and hissed me any time I wanted to hug him. He did not like it. He thought himself to be a lion, and how could I carry him like a toy around? O how I miss him now! He was a real character!
I have one, he is black and white! He was a stray that i used to feed, after gaining his trust, has been with me since 2012! He is a very big boy, no cats mess with him, and no dog is safe lol!! He is beautiful and i love him, nice cats to have!! Thanks for the info! Anna UK. 👍👍👍❤️🐈❤️
After seeing such a lovely cat like DD, i wanted to adopt a norwegian forest cat. I just came here to see whether all the kitties of this breed are so lovely or Dd is an exception
They are all wonderful with people and get extremely attached and dedicated to the person they bond with. On the other hand they are a bit picky with other pets and become annoyed with them if they are to active and pester them to much. When young they also get into everything and love to climb but at night are extreme snuggle monsters.
I rescued mine. He is a wonderful cat and people get a huge kick out of how he follows me all around the house like a dog. He fetches straws and is very tuff. It is really true that they demand attention, he will bite me, if I ignore him for too long. But he makes up for it in the love and nuzzles he gives. My friends say he's my toxic boyfriend.
I had an NFC I rescued and would say this video is pretty much for the most part accurate. My Abby, was such a lovable cat. They do love the family but they definitely bond to their favorite human which was me. I feel absolutely blessed and lucky to have been chosen by this wonderful cat. She would sit on my bed at the front window and look out with those beautiful green eyes waiting for me to get home from work. Then, my entire evening was dedicated to her whether it would be brushing her, grooming her, petting her or just hanging together on the couch, she was by my side all night with purrs so loud!! As you can tell, I talk in past tense as I recently lost her to cancer. This beautiful cat was my 🌎. If you get one...prepare to have your heart stolen as they will and worth it!!
I just had to put my four year old Norwegian Forest cat to sleep this week. He was the best cat I have EVER had. He had the most amazing personality. He was so playful, and was a prolific hunter! RIP, Henri, you will be so missed.
I got my Norwegian forest cat from 2 stray cats and it's the cutest cat I saw in my life. She loves to be cuddled and doesn't scratch things, just lay on the ground and sleep
Omg watching this is making me cry, I miss my cat so much and am so glad I got to live his last 3 years with him! Norwegian Forest Cats really are the most amazingly beautiful and loving cats. He always had this look in his eyes like he understood so much more than you would ever imagine. He was the most affectionate cat I've ever met amd really was my best friend. 💔 Absolutely broke me to lose him last year and will always hurt but I'm forever glad to have rescued him and endlessly thankful for who he was.
I rescued a 20lb Maine Coon male, very similar build and disposition. Having lived outdoors in coyote country for 3 years, really smart and not afraid of anything. 24/7 indoors now, best cat ever!
A Norwegian Forest Cat was a MUST HAVE gift for new Viking marriages, and a kitten was given as a gift because they take care of mice in a house A Norse legend has giant Norwegian Forest Cats pulling the chariot of Freya
I have a Norwegian Forest Cat. I got her a month ago. Her name is Lioness. The sweetest cat I ever owned. I adopted her from the humane society. Love her very much.🦁🐾🐾
we adopted one but had no clue what it was but I knew she was different than other cats. She has never made a peep but she will let you pet her belly for as long as you want and they love to use their legs to direct you to where they want to be petted. Amazing cat
I currently have one. His name is Olaf and he is one years old. Just like you said, he is very playful, active, loves to follow me everywhere and is extremely affectionate, cuddly and friendly. I truly recommend it to anybody who is looking for a great companion. And yes, he is quite vocal (sounds like he is chirping) when he wants to eat or play 😁😁😁
This is the best video I've seen on the Wegie. I saw a few specimens, in the video, that were Maine Coon and Turkish Angora, in looks, but for the most part there were some lovely representatives of the breed. As more people do DNA testing, of their cats, the origin(s) of the Wegie should become clearer. My best guess is the Vikings brought the Turkish Angoras and Siberians back to Norway and those cats interbred with the Roman short-haired cats (RSHC), however, when I was breeding Wegies, for my Ph.D. research, I occasionally got cats that had the looks and temperaments of the Pallas cats. These seeming "throwbacks" never tamed and had to be culled but they were all magnificent specimens that usually weighed around 17-20 pounds when mature. There was no DNA research, on Pallas cats, at the time, so this is sheer speculation that the Pallas cat might be behind the Siberians which then bred with the Angoras and RSHCs, in Norway, over a thousand years ago. If Wegies are bred right, they should produce a coat that resists pollutants other cats pick up on their coats that causes a lot of allergic reactions such as dust mites, pollen, dust from kitty litter, etc. And early neutering and spaying greatly reduces the sebaceous oils that can be irritating to people with a lot of allergies.
Mine is absolutely gorgeous and her tail is almost longer than her body and she's full grown bushy hair all around and hair on the bottom of her feet that's about a half an inch long
Im a shameless DD fan, and trying to learn all about them as although I know a lot about cats and even taken a course in cat care, I dont know so much about these beautiful, majestic cats, having been a Birman, Himmie and Doll face persian fan for years. I love DDs little chirrup, his gentleness and languid bread loving cupboard exploring personality. Hes so unusual, curious and fascinating.
Our Luna Cat came to us at 7 months old. She’s black with a bit of brown on her chest puff in the sun.I have never met a cat like her. She is so intelligent and social. Always has to know what we are doing and follows us into every room. She is very vocal when she wants something… food/play etc. we have taught her to sit on command and I’m trying to teach her fetch. She chases the toy but doesn’t bring it back yet. I’ve never been a cat person until she came along.
I am a retired nurse and was given a patient's cat as he had always loved my visits and she was no longer able to care for him. I was told he was a 5 year old Main Coon because he was 23 pounds when he came to live with me, Huge, beautiful, bushy black and white male named TJ. But I began to notice slight descrepiencies, different from Main Coons and did not believe that was what he was. I got on the internet and looked up large breed cats. The very first one i saw was an exact video of TJ walking in the snow and said it was a Noreign Forest Cat. I have never heard of them! So i started reading and found they are the oldest known domestic cat breeds found in Europe and Scandanavia. They came to New England on the ships with the Vikings. And I know that the Vikings coming to North America is just a theory but they got here some how. That was 1000 years ago!! The theory is that the Main Coons are descendents of these Noreign Forest Cats! They were admitted into the American Cat Breeders Club in 1938. So after finding all this information I went to TJ's vet because he is the original person who said TJ was Main Coon. I had their receptionest get online to the site I had looked at and showed them the video of the one that looked exactly like TJ. They had never heard of them either!
We picked out a kitten from the shelter. We were surprised when he kept growing and the beautiful coat came in. We lucked out with a wonderful cat, that is very social. Would recommend this breed to anyone.
Hi I'm from Norway and have a Norwegian forest cat. Her name is Olivia and she is 9 years old and she is the kindest cat in the world. We can do whatever we want with her. Olivia has the finest fur in the world and loves food. and btw i like their videos
I miss having a cat! My wife is allergic to them! They were part of my life for 60+ years though! So I've had my share of friendly head bumps from them! Cats are wonderful creatures, It's too bad some people can't handle them!
I have a norwegian forest cat. She is named Leia, she is 9 years old and looks exactly like the one at 8:40! She is so talkative and she likes to mess around with everything, doesn't matter how much I play with her, she has a never-ending energy source! We live in Portugal and I know she suffers a lot with the heat, even though I always find ways to help her cool down (which she doesn't like me helping her, she will complain!) it's hard to manage. I didn't pay for her. I rescued a cat from the street and she was pregnant with 2 babies. We kept the girls and gave away the boy (he sadly died last year). Even though her mother isn't a norwegian forest cat, Leia fits all the criteria and genetics and was registered as such (like her brother). She is a gentle giant that loves to play catch (she is a dog in a cat body)!
I had a half wild cat (by accident, didn't know this when we picked him up) from 2000 to 2019, he looked like a regular old European shorthair, but he was the size of a Maine Coon. He was my first cat, I was around 11 when my parents got him for me, so it kind of warped my idea of how big cats are supposed to be. So now that I'm getting settled in my new house, I'm getting two NFCs from a breeder nearby, because they give me good vibes and I love their cats, plus they're beautiful cats that have some heft to them, like I'm used to.
I have one! He’s massive and his coat is incredibly time consuming to upkeep lol. The rescue I got him from found him roaming the streets as a kitten. Got him at about 6 months old. He was the size of an adult female. Has since doubled in size.
My Boy is a 6 year old Wegie. So many things mentioned in this video fit him to a T. He is not a Lap cat, loves climbing, not very vocal, gets along with his little sister (a Domestic Shorthair) mostly. Amazingly he has never hissed! Not once. The only part of the video that he would have a problem with is that once a week brushing. He expects to be brushed twice a day. Before Breakfast and in the evening. He absolutely loves his brush and in fact it is easier to call him just by showing his brush to him. Works even better then food. We are so proud of our Boy. Recently at a routine exam he was discovered to have a heart murmur. The working diagnosis is HCM. I have always been fortunate to have very long lived cats. Most of them living over 20 years. With God's help and our love hopefully out Boy will also make this milestone.
I had three and the first one was a fortunate discovery, indeed! He was such a treasured member of our family and his name was Whiskers. He was so big we thought the people we bought him from had mistaken a Maine Coon as a Wegie and sold him to us. But they had all of documentation. He had such a dynamo yet sweet personality and we loved him so. We were living in Switzerland when he passed, so after mourning our sweet boy we did buy two others while living there. What treasures they were. Unfortunately the female had developed a fatal health condition and she passed away at the tender age of 4 almost 5 years. The male we had for many wonderful years. Of course these other two, Pooh (female) and Peanut (make) were also treasured members of the family. We also had gotten a rescue kitten when the two Wegies were kittens, yet themselves. They had quite a good time playing and jockeying for who as the Alpha kitten. It was never decided upon, I don’t think. If you adore cats and have the opportunity to get one, my advice is to do it! You’ll not regret it for a minute.
We adopted our cat when he was 8 weeks old and was told he was a Maine coon, but, being in the animal health industry, I lean more towards him being a Norwegian forest cat. His profile fits the physical and the personality traits to a T. He is the best cat I’ve even owned, and even wins over people who say they don’t like cats. He is a great mouser and actually caught a flying squirrel once, and I didn’t even know we had them in Alaska! We have quite a few acres and he prefers to spend lots of time outside; unless it starts getting below zero. He is 10yo now and still acts like a kitten often, will run around outside with us with (and similarly to) the dog doing barn chores, and then will come in and lay with while I have coffee. We joke that he can duplicate at night because we will ALL claim he slept with us at night. We have decided he makes his rounds and makes a point to snuggle each one of us in different and specific ways adapting to the person he is snuggling at the moment. He lays on or in between my legs like a cot, at the top of my now grown son’s head, across my now grown daughter’s neck while kneading her, and deliberately walks over my husband to get to me even though it’s a longer route. When my two older sons who now have families of their own will come visit, he will still interact and snuggle them in their special ways just like he did when they were growing up. Sometimes he will wake my husband up and then when he gets up, the cat will lay in his spot next to me with his front paws on me. He even “pets” my arm with his tail often when he’s sitting next to me. He will meet house guests at their car or at the door just like our dog. If all NFC’s are like this, I would recommend this breed to people who like to interact with their cats often and want their cat to interact with house guests.
I have a Norwegian forest X Turkish Van X Calico short hair domestic cat and it's the best of all 3 worlds! Unfortunately, she does not have the Turkish van particularity to love water 🤣 Thank you for making videos like these for people who want to identify where their cat's behaviours come from!
we're lucky to be able to adopt Norwegian Forest cat kittens from some of our local farmers :D And they are mostly quite healthy individuals. Barn cats for the win!
We found ours sleeping with our outside dogs. He was an Itty bitty kitty. But he sure has grown he looks just like these cats now & is only 5 months old. You're not kidding about the claws
They're definitly great hunters. I had a norwegian forest cat who once took on a stoat, and came out of it as the winning part. Also avid birdkillers... Mice, rats.. But she was also the most loyal, patient and loving cat I ever had. For 18 years, she was such a giving presence in our family. Personality, oh yeas! Independence. Most definitly
My 3 yr old NFC runs away from almost everyone except me! Having said that she comes 'out of her shell' if visitors sit quietly and ignore her - then her curious side comes out and if my other cats accept that person she will join in! - I am lucky to live on the edge of a Moor in SW England with no village or town in a 3 mile radius, she like all my cats is spayed, microchipped, and treated for parasites every month - not at all loud, her Purrs are more often felt rather than heard, I am lucky enough to have her cousin (only 75% NFC) and 2 of her half-brothers (sleek with NFC traits, underfur layers, fluffy paws etc)
We (my significant other and I) believe have a Norwegian Forest cat mix and I think he's a great cat. The first cat I've ever had (my significant other had him before he and I ever even met). Lucky is the cat's name. He is a rescue cat. He came from a cat colony and when he was about a week old, a Tom cat came and killed his litter mates while his mom was out getting food. He was the only kitten to survive the attack and so my significant other took him in and bottle fed him and raises him. He's a pretty mellow cat and now last week he (significant other) found a kitten at a bus stop. We think the kitten is about 6 weeks old. He didn't attack the kitten. He was just unsure of this new creature in the house now. He's adjusting quite well and they even playfully chase one another. He seems to have figured out this is a baby cat and is of no real threat to him and that he still has the run of the house. He tells the kitten in his own way when he's had enough of play time. Kitten seems to understand when Lucky is not in a playful mood. He hasn't been aggressive towards the kitten though but he has been great at teaching the kitten boundaries. We named the kitten Chance. We believe Chance is a domestic shorthair. He's a beautiful black kitten and his eyes are turning green.
I believe one of my rescues is a Norwegian Forest Cat, or at least has a large amount of the breed in him. He's affectionate, extremely gentle (I've only heard him hiss twice in the time I've owned him, both times at the vet, and he's never scratched anyone) and talkative and skittish, especially around loud noises and strangers. He's also the most brutal hunter I've seen, and has brought home everything from dragonflies and moths, to all sorts of mice, some birds to even yesterday a BAT. I don't even know where he found that one. And funnily enough, he's one of only two cats I've owned so far that is absolutely NOT a lap cat, even though he's cuddly. So this video only confirms my suspicions that he is this breed.
My cat Mila turned 1 today and still looks like a stubby kitten! I suspected she was a Norwegian Forest Cat mix but now I’m sure of it. She’s way to smart to care about her toys, she wont go near laps but loves cuddles, and never speaks. Meanwhile my Lynx Point Siamese Lucy screams when she wants attention.
Had one for just over 20 years. He weighed 25lbs at his peak. Not fat, just really big, though he weighed less than 20lbs when he died. I miss him dearly. He liked jumping almost 7 feet to get on top of open doors.
I have two siblings that that are kind of short haired half breed forest cats. They were the only on in the whole litter that inherited the short fur from their mix breed father (some kind of nfc mix). The mother was pure bred forest cat. Funny enough, the shorter undercoat makes them incredibly soft, much softer then ordinary purebred forest cats . Here in Sweden every mixed breed is called "farmcat" and often some kind of nfc mixture with something. Because they often roamed the rural countrywide far and wild. Sweden has more forest then our neighbor Norway and probably why both in Sweden and Norway we call them simply forest cats.😉
I adopted a norweigan tabby a month ago. Paid a minimal adoption fee. She matches the description to all these wonderful things. She is the best, most beautiful kitty! Please adopt. 🥹

Well nw-cat aren't very vocal so it's not a nw-cat
And the Main Coon are a mix of Norwegian Forestcat and a Bobcat!
Ours came from a dumpster. People are pathetic.
My son found my cat in a garbage can I see a lot of Norwegian forest cats found in the trash cans why their such a treasure
Who in their right mind would dump these beauties. Any cat for that matter.
I had one...
Awesome cats.
Intelligent, clever, quick learner and very friendly
2002-2019 (aged 17) R.I.P little buddy😔😔
My Cookiez is 18 as of today. She's still a brat, lol.
Sorry for your loss.
@@M60gunner1971
Thank You👍👍
i cried for hours for you.
I have one, he is tough as nails and such lover.
haha I heard they can be punks in the wild messing with other animals trollin them I have one who is a nutbag!!
We called this “murder kitty” when we were kids.
I've got a 13 yr old male who is still the dominant force where we live. A few dogs have tried, all have learned the hard way.
And yet he is the sweetest cuddle monster with people.
We have one, they are great hunters
My friends has a Norwegian forest cat and whenever I go to my friend’s house her cat greets me adorably ❤ I love it 😻
Petting my cat while watching this.
He's 13 years old, but acts like a kitten, and he is very social and active ❤
That's so sweet! :)
Had Maine Coons and NFC all my life. They are all so beautiful yet so different from each other. They really choose their favourite human out of the household and I was always the one they chose because I adore them and shower them with my love. I really want to adopt a cat again, I hope that my financial situation will better so I can get one :)
The best of luck!
This a very beautiful story, thanks for sharing this
Leoni Marks.
Aww, We had a ginger tabby cat that would try to bite the stick the toy was attached to and ignore the toy. lol He knew how it worked.
I lived with a Norwegian Forest Cat. She was such an amazing cat. These cats are such a blessing.
I always thought my cats were some kind of Maine Coon mix, but they are most certainly Norwegian Forest cats! So glad I found this video, thanks!
It's the other way around, Main Coons are NFC mixed with Bobcats!
Sounds like a great family of cats. Happy for you! One day I may really need to get my own Skogkatt. Takk for your story!
Love watching Nanna on Honeysada. She has a wonderful life with a fantastic, caring owner.
I’d have sued that hunter into poverty, sorry for your loss brother
Take legal action
@@vman049 that’s what I said before but after reflecting on it there’s really nothing illegal that happened, it was just an unfortunate situation
@@Saber23 That is true, especially here in Sweden where dogs have more legal "rights" than cats have. Thanks for kind thoughts.
DD from kittisaurus is a Norwegian Forest cat. This video kind of explained why DD can fly over obstacles other cats cannot go over.
Kittisaurus family here 🙋
Woah I didn’t know that. But it makes so much sense
I knew, hes so chill and such a gorgeous kitty, and makes that little chirrup thing.
I think Coco is also a Wegie? But he's more chill IMO
Interesting. Thank you.
They shed like crazy too.
The cutest morst talkative cat i ever have had. Bosses me around🤣
My norwegian forest cat ;
Arrived to his new home, the size of an apple.
A miniature tiger.
With a temper to match....
Used all the living room furniture as climbing tools.
Finally reached the top of the book shelves.... From where he spied his kingdom, like a mountain lion.
Frequently used the curtains
as climbing ladders.
Love from Norway 💖🇳🇴
A beautiful cat.
Check for the ear fluffs. If not then you have a Scottish shorthair j/k isn't skogkatt great?
My weegie kitchen scratches but hes playing.

Does he have webbed feet? Mine does
@@Younis1446 correction: SOMETIMES they’re well-mannered lol
I've had my NFC for 10 years now, he's not exactly as outgoing as this video implies though. He's nice to just about everyone but for the most part he only wants me. Anytime I sit down he wants to sit on my lap with me. He waits at the door for me when I get home from work, and when I go to bed he sleeps on my chest under the blankets. While under the blanket he tends to kind of dig his claws into my arm (not deep) but enough to where you can feel it, and also likes to bite my arm (not hard) but does this at least 3 or 4 times before he settles down and goes to sleep. He's done this ever since he was a kitten so I've grown used to it, my wife on the other hand doesn't like to lay with him because of this.
sounds a bit like the cat I grew up with, which was half NFC.
Yeah, not sure why the video claims otherwise, NFCs tend to prefer one human in particular.
The biting is to show you who's boss... Sorry ! 😸💖
Norwegian forest cats are very curious when it comes to their owner and they really like following and being around their owner, especially if they are inside cats and don\t spend too much time outside :) Also they are very competetive around cats of their gender unless it's their owner so no problem being two kings or queens in the same house
Get rid of the wife!! Not the cat! Lol
Wegies make great barn cats. I love ours.
I have a Norwegian Forest cat and he hates other animals. When I adopted him they told me he can't be around other pets or he will attack them.
But I can confirm that my cat is very clingy and gets very hyper at night and runs around a lot.
Some Norwegian Forest Cat are kind of anti social and selfish. But the one i had was very kind cat.
Especially dogs.
Mine is absolutely in love with my black lab and she likes other cats if she’s the one in charge. Cat personalities can somewhat be generalized but no matter what theyre their own lil guys/girls.
I have one. Grey is magnificent.
He showed up at my front door. Great breed. 👍🏻 Everyone check your shelters....there are others!
He was a real character!
sorry for your loss! :( I bet he had a great life
I have one, he is black and white! He was a stray that i used to feed, after gaining his trust, has been with me since 2012! He is a very big boy, no cats mess with him, and no dog is safe lol!! He is beautiful and i love him, nice cats to have!! Thanks for the info! Anna UK. 👍👍👍❤️🐈❤️
Thanks for sharing your story! 😀
The name of the country is Norway. Thanks for the video. I love my wegie! She's so beautiful!!
After seeing such a lovely cat like DD, i wanted to adopt a norwegian forest cat. I just came here to see whether all the kitties of this breed are so lovely or Dd is an exception
DD is my favorite one. Followed by Chuchu.
They all are. Pretty much. I've had several of them. Great cats. The fluffier the cat, the better than personlity.
That is very sad , just lost my 12 y old mix coon and we are stunned he is gone at 12 yrs and 7 months .
I got my Norwegian forest cat from 2 stray cats and it's the cutest cat I saw in my life. She loves to be cuddled and doesn't scratch things, just lay on the ground and sleep
I love mine! We got him at a shelter thinking he was MC until we started researching
Ditto...we thought our rescue was a Maine coon for the longest time until we learned about this breed
So sorry for your loss :(
I rescued a 20lb Maine Coon male, very similar build and disposition. Having lived outdoors in coyote country for 3 years, really smart and not afraid of anything. 24/7 indoors now, best cat ever!

@@FactsaboutCatsVideos You're welcome ☺️
Omg i adopted mine a week ago and his name is also Olaf! I hope they live a long happy life💜☺
What a majestic cat.
Mine is absolutely gorgeous and her tail is almost longer than her body and she's full grown bushy hair all around and hair on the bottom of her feet that's about a half an inch long
Interesting insights, thanks for sharing, don't suppose you considered writing a book? I'm sure there's a lot more to learn for all.
Thanks. Finally able to identify my rescue cat. She's a thumping big calico that eats more than I do when given lots of exercise.
I Honestly can't tell if my cat is A Weegiie or Maine coon. Guess doesn't matter, she is Wonderful! so sweet!
I had an adorable gray male who passed away two and half years ago!
Thank you very much for the honour,I LOVE how the presantation turned out!Elvenstars send you their purrs!
Hey! Glad you enjoyed it! And thanks again for your help! :)
My NFC lived for 22 years almost. They’re the best cats out there. Ended up being my world. Anyone looking for an amazing kitty should get one !
Wonderful cats....Their personalities are the best family minded cats ^Enjoyed your video. Miss my sweetheart Adonis.
I really love this cat so much! 🥰❤
All animals are beautiful and special. 🥰
6:06 i remember that. It meowed for two things. To go outside, to get inside or food : D
I believe that are three things 🧐
We picked out a kitten from the shelter. We were surprised when he kept growing and the beautiful coat came in. We lucked out with a wonderful cat, that is very social. Would recommend this breed to anyone.
Hi I'm from Norway and have a Norwegian forest cat. Her name is Olivia and she is 9 years old and she is the kindest cat in the world. We can do whatever we want with her. Olivia has the finest fur in the world and loves food. and btw i like their videos
Your vids
Ops
Bye❤️
Glad you like them :). Thanks for the comment :)
I miss having a cat! My wife is allergic to them! They were part of my life for 60+ years though! So I've had my share of friendly head bumps from them! Cats are wonderful creatures, It's too bad some people can't handle them!
They’re the best cats 🐈💕 they also need serious attention
Amazing cat!! Best cat we have ever owned. I wish we could clone him❣️❣️
I have a norwegian forest cat.
Thanks for talking about my cat! 🙂
as the proud owner of a norwegian forest cat they are very good for large propertys and killing mice phesants and rabits highley recommended
😀
I had a half wild cat (by accident, didn't know this when we picked him up) from 2000 to 2019, he looked like a regular old European shorthair, but he was the size of a Maine Coon.
He was my first cat, I was around 11 when my parents got him for me, so it kind of warped my idea of how big cats are supposed to be. So now that I'm getting settled in my new house, I'm getting two NFCs from a breeder nearby, because they give me good vibes and I love their cats, plus they're beautiful cats that have some heft to them, like I'm used to.
Got mine from a lady for 50$ out of her barn, best cat ever, took him about 5 years to become cuddly. I swear hes still growing hear massive
I have one! He’s massive and his coat is incredibly time consuming to upkeep lol. The rescue I got him from found him roaming the streets as a kitten. Got him at about 6 months old. He was the size of an adult female. Has since doubled in size.
They love to swim… mine always jumped off our jetty in summer! In Sweden…
what a lovely beauty
I wish I had one of these amazing kitties ❤️
I miss mine so much. He is an Angel in Heaven now, just like he was on Earth. He always hugged me and gave me nose kisses.
How I miss my Toto! My fluffy wegie angel, he was so sweet affectionate and smart. He lad learned to give the paw and high five for treats 💕🐈
Awesome story and awesome cat and cat family!! ❤️
I have a Norwegian forest X Turkish Van X Calico short hair domestic cat and it's the best of all 3 worlds! Unfortunately, she does not have the Turkish van particularity to love water 🤣
Thank you for making videos like these for people who want to identify where their cat's behaviours come from!
Anything I've seen from Norway has an orah about it...modestly pleasant and friendly beauty clean skined bright 🌞
we're lucky to be able to adopt Norwegian Forest cat kittens from some of our local farmers :D And they are mostly quite healthy individuals. Barn cats for the win!
I love your site please keep on doing a great job
thank you very much :)
We have them and they are so smart. They are so cool.
I had one and I still miss him !
Sorry for your loss :(
He died of a heart-failure when he was just 8 years old.
I want this cat, calico, brown Burmese, and tabby cat
She sounds awesome!
they are such gorgeous cats!
They are so beautiful and fluffy
True!
Mumm I ened up getting one of these cats and I am happy I watch this video the so much
We (my significant other and I) believe have a Norwegian Forest cat mix and I think he's a great cat.
Thanks for taking the time to let us know your story ❤️
Glad it helped 😁
Chests>>>laps
Had one for just over 20 years. He weighed 25lbs at his peak. Not fat, just really big, though he weighed less than 20lbs when he died. I miss him dearly. He liked jumping almost 7 feet to get on top of open doors.
Sorry for your loss, the loss of a cherished pet is like losing a member of your family.
Your cat weighed 25lbs?, wow that’s around 11kgs, big animal.
I have a half NFC, she is rescue and bloody huge. We are talking near 10kgs! Here dad was a ginger NFC
She is like some lion she is so large lol
Nice!
Rhis breed is gorgeous
Indeed! :)
I have a NFC mix and he's just now growing his adult fur and its so longgg. He lives on my lap, and loves a cuddle.
I adopted a norweigan tabby a month ago. Paid a minimal adoption fee. She matches the description to all these wonderful things. She is the best, most beautiful kitty! Please adopt. 🥹
I had half breed norwegian and regular black cat and its furr was so soft. Very good at night in my bed =)
Couldn't agree more! Mainer's are awesomely spookier.
They make great pets, I have one who was crossbred with a Siamese and he has blue eyes.😊
