The contractors insist or bully the home owners into going with their materials or designs as they get a cut /kick back on the materials supplied by the harware stores and if you acquiesce to going with their designs it only means you End up paying more than your basic budget...hope this helps
Yes you're right. A friend later pointed out that he was putting down my tiles as I had purchased them independently online so he couldn't profit off the sale of them. Luckily after a stern talking to he's been good at his work & also respectful of our choices.
Yes it is true, even we wanted to paint our house, the painter was nit willing to go ahead with color we wanted, and i had to tend to my ailing mother he painted a color which was so ugly in my absence. And still insisted it was better color than the one i wanted. And my mind was more on my mother, then, so i preferred to keep quiet
I'm sorry to hear, its so frustrating. And I do think they do this much more with women, have spoken to quite a few people on this issue and confirmed. 😔
Perhaps the vendors you are dealing with know that you are not a resident of Goa & therefore they try to tell you what they think needs to be done. We have built our new home in place of the old one and carry some sort of renovation or upgrade periodically but we have not experienced such vendor domination
It's not really what 'needs to be done'. We were very receptive to that info and would generally trust the vendors there. This is purely a creative choice - I liked a specific tile which I went through trouble to source and the vendor kept saying it doesn't look nice because it's small and I should buy some big tile of his choosing. My house, my money, but it should look how he wants it? Lol. Lucky for you. After I posted this I got several comments and even more messages from people (all women btw) who have experienced the same throughout India.
