Chris Lemmon, Jack's son and spitting image, said that of all his father's roles ranging from the profoundly dramatic to the brilliantly comedic, he feels Professor Fate in TGR was his best performance. I heartily concur.

This is one of,if not the best scene ih the whole movie, but at the 02:98 mark ... those eyes... Natalie Woods was smokin' in this part of this scene...
So, according to an interview I just saw with Natalie Wood. They actually used at least nine thousand pies for this one pie fight and I know that the had to entirely redo the set because the initial filming was on a Friday, the filming stopped but after the weekend, the old pies were bad so they had to clean up everything and redo a lot. Natalie really took it like a trooper and at certain points she did have a hard time breathing through all of the mess.

That reminds me of that great line you mentioned on Oscar (Walter Matthau) trying to figure out FU was not the crude language, but only Felix Unger's initials! Loved that gag, and laughed so hard, as the audience did in 1968. Funny movie, leading to the great tv series "The Odd Couple" (1970-75) with Tony Randall and Jack Klugman.

I read that Jack Lemmon said he was knocked out about 3 times from being hit in the face with a pie. He said being hit with a custard pie is like being hit with a cement block, or something like that. Wow! I didn't realize a person could be hit with that much force with one!
He said that getting hit with a pie is like getting hit with a big ball of wet cement. It’s heavy and it will jar your head to the side or backwards if you don’t see it coming.
Couldn't agree more! We thought he was so cool with the metal bar, too and flying the plane. The expressions on his face and his New York Accent - priceless. They were all phenomenal in this movie!
