If you're reading this and preparing for the storm to hit your area, I would like you to remember to take detailed photos of your house. Each and every room, all of your stuff. Even inside your cabinets and refrigerator. Should you come to find your house damaged, these will go a long way to helping your insurance claim when you start to recover.
I’m a native Floridian who has been through 34 hurricane seasons. Most hurricanes barely get a reaction out of me. It’s just a part of living here. Ian is different. This is one of only two times in my life I’ve actually willingly evacuated my home. Pray for those of us here in FL. ETA: I live in the Tampa Bay Area.

Still plenty of property damage, downed trees and power outages but it could have been much worse for us. Also yes, you’d think there’d be bigger hurricane kits for us lol.

My family and I stayed during the hurricane, and while our damage wasn't massive, it was super windy and it'll definitely take a week or two for our neighborhood to get back to normal. Small trees fell over, and even lamposts were picked up and chucked across the street. my heart goes out to anyone who had it worse.
As a Floridians, I experience hurricanes like these before. Back in 2005, I was scared Hurricane Wilma when pass over Florida, but was ok. Back in 2017, Hurricane Irma appeared and did a number of damage but everyone was fine. And 2022, don't what Hurricane Ian got in store for us, but I do know everyone is going to be ok.

Huh, the worst hurricane we ever experienced was when I was younger, hurricane Wilma. That was such a horrible storm. Irma was bad too, not as bad as Wilma according to my Broward County. We will make it in God's name. Jesus, help us.
Wilma was bad because it pivoted toward Miami Dade and Broward counties with only a couple of hours to spare and at the end of the day. Many people didn’t prepare because they “weren’t in the path” of the storm, until they were. I hope everyone prepped just in case. Better to have food and water to donate than to be left up the creek without a paddle.’
I lived in Sarasota for a long time. I never thought it would get a direct hit, just because it seemed like the storms would have to do a pretty wierd turn. But we had a lot of close calls. People would keep their plywood up and write the name of the hurricane, then cross it off an write the next hurricane, and the next. It's strange what becomes your normal.
