I really enjoyed listening to this interpretation.....I am playing this piee for my Saxophone Juries in a few days and have been listening to different interpretations for days
That was lovely. I would like to hear more! I wish that "vocalise" would never end. It's just so...lovely. Movement or not, you have a very powerful sound. I didn't even watch the video, I just listened to the music. I've been playing for over 12 years the flute, and I have a good ear. You were fabulous! :)
Beautiful piece! And beautiful playing! Its great to see somebody putting some actual emotion and passion into it, it really does effect the tone and personality of the sound.
They are about the same to learn, so you can choose which sound and repertoire you like best. Or be practical and find a band close by your home. They will tell you which players they need and you may be able to use their instrument and learn with them for free. This is a nice way to learn and to try out if you like it in the long run, without having to spend a lot of money. They may not play your kind of music, but still it's fun to play in a band. Wishing you lots of success!
The school bands where I live are very strong. The kids generally play on Vandoren 5RV Lyre mouthpieces with Vandoren blue box 3.5/4 reeds. The Rovner ligatures seem to be the most popular. See some of my posted videos.
Vandoren 5RV Lyre mouthpieces are very good and common at my school, and we don't play on anything other than Vandoren reeds as a standard, usually 2.5-3.5
Vibrato is meant for enriching a thin sound; usually used with violins, flutes, oboes, etc. The Clarinet already produces a deep rich tone, therefore making vibrato unnecessary. Instead, it will make it sound wavy and unsolid.
Great performance! This guy produces a good sound - so swaying certainly doesn't do him any harm! However .... I often wonder why players of this quality feel the need to have music in front of them. I'm not the best of clarinettists by any means - but I've performed 90 minute recitals without a single piece of music in front of me before now. Playing without music allows you to look more professional - and really connect with the audience.
When you compare this to other versions on youtube it is very interesting. I think this version could be more engaging by exploring softer dynamic levels and also having the clarinetist lead more. I think the clarinetist could play more with rubato to good effect. On the recording the two players don't blend enough. I hear two distinct performers. More subtlety and variety would make this into something special.
maybe its not necessary, but perhaps its more like a side-effect. it just comes natural for some people. ill agree that too much movement is distracting, but it didnt bother me too much since the actual music was pretty well played. just a bit fast maybe....
take a look at the clarinet quartet Anches Hantées! they play dvorak (american quartet, unter donner und blitz by strauss , contrabajeando piazzola , the sabre dance ...
Yes totally true, Yet there are some players who learned their instrument strictly by written scores. I new a British champion cornettist who said,:" take the sheet with music away, and you get silence!!!"
An octave is an 8th interval - that is, when you depress an octave key, you produce the same note on the higher end of the scale. In other words, if you were to play a C4, then depress the octave key, you would produce a C5. When you depress the REGISTER key on a clarinet while playing C4, you produce a G5, which is actually a 12th interval higher. In other words, it is not an octave key, it does not make you go an octave higher, and you are entirely wrong if you think so.
Wooden clarinets are designed with more care. The wood doesn't sound. There are excellent "plastic "instruments build and designed nowadays. Its the aircolumn, the mouthpiece, the reed etc, who are responsible for good sound. Wood can swell warp and crack, but gives you tha traditional feeling
when i was younger, i used throat vibratto, but it really wasnt night. i personally perfer lip vibratto, because diaphragm might be the "most correct" technique, but it is not as stable. --- however, for this song, it is more important to have good air support for expressive dynamics rather then using virbatto. --- good job btw, this is finally doing some justice to the great piece. the piano needs to follow your phrasing, though.
As for the vibrato, I don't much wrong here. Make sure it is a true vibrato from the embouchure rather than a tremolo from the diaphram. Learn to vary the speed of the vibrato and don't over use it.
Oh thank god for Reginald Kell and the traditional English vibrato tone. But why do most professional clarinetist in USA have to use closed mouthpieces and #4-4.5 reeds ? I would like to hear this player using slightly softer reed. Just so people get some idea then Grabner K14 about 1.08mm open is Very popular mouthpiece here in Iceland for classical playing with #3-3.5 reeds.
Nice.the sound of the clarinet is very good too.however just the tempo is a little bit faster and the nuances are too wavy for me, according to my russian taste. congratulations because this music is very difficult to play.
The swaying my be somewhat distracting to watch, but it is natural. After all, a singer can move his/her head or body and use all kinds of gestures. However, an instrumentalist is severly restricted in this regard. It is natural, especially when playing lyrical music, to move with the music. The instrumentalist needs this outlet.
The sound quality of the video is not the greatest, that could be why you think he's bad. Im sure if you were watching in person, it would be much better.
I would suggest, if you have a fairly good clarinet, like a Yamaha or a Buffet, that you try variuos Mouthpieces and various reeds and ligatures, they make often more differences to tone quality than Brands of manufacture. Experiment as well with the volume of your mouth cavity, like saying AWSOME the AW. The middle notes ,throat notes A ,Bb are always weak.Find an artist with your tone ideal. I wish I could blow like Eddie Daniels.
I really can't complain, it's a good performance. Though at the start I felt the sound of the clarinet was a little strangled, but that could be because of the room's eating most of the sound away. ..But eek! What vibrato? No! Why not YOU get some vibrato out of a clarinet? I love a Clarinet just fine w/o vibrato.
dear, i agree wt u: movement's critical part of the music, but not the main one. this guy was not subtil on his mov. so it was enough, specially caude he bends a lot. it seems he's got a back acking, or he's unconfortable. in this case, that mov is not a critical part of rach's score, exactally cause in that score music can go on without a unquiet body. the performance takes place in sound quality, i see, not in gesture of musician.
Hey, Great preformance but it would help your breathing if you didn't move around so much. Maybe it helps you, I don't know. Still a fantastic preformance!
Nice tone, but far too fast -- playing it at this speed skirts the challenges of control. Also, you could benefit by playing the quiet sections truly pianissimo.
seems a bit rushed and the excessive swaying is a bit distracting...there seems to be more effort put through swaying rather than emotion in the playing good tone though
and swaying isn't a good thing? this guy is swaying a lot and he sounds perfectly fine to me...so if you think your so smart just BACK OFF! people sway like that so that they can get a better feel of the music...and if you think that swaying is bad for posture, it might be, but musicality is way better than PERFECT posture.
All you people who think that he moves to much must be the most emotionless players to set foot on this earth. You probably don't understand the first thing about expression in music and self- expression. Also you probably all are completely learnt players that may be able to play well but with no expression, no personal interpretation and no finesse.
It's visibly distracting and it's effecting his posture, more than likely effecting his breathing which is effecting his tone production. Any music professor will tell you this. I mean not to start an argument, I'm just pointing out a truth in music academia. Your accusation that anyone criticizing him for his movement plays with no interpretation or expression is actually rather ignorant. Expression is done through the performance, not through random motions. It's performance etiquette 101.
I really enjoyed listening to this interpretation.....I am playing this piee for my Saxophone Juries in a few days and have been listening to different interpretations for days

His control is very nice. I can't even tell when he goes between the upper and lower register. His tone was gorgeous as well.
They are about the same to learn, so you can choose which sound and repertoire you like best. Or be practical and find a band close by your home. They will tell you which players they need and you may be able to use their instrument and learn with them for free.

Beautiful... i wish i had the sheet music for that! I could totaly play it!
That was lovely.
I'm learning this piece for my grade 6 exam.
Not bad, beautiful! I'm a clarinet player and Rachmanninof fan. Good job man!
Very good! I was really mesmerized throughout the piece :)
I love this piece, I played it for my grade 6 clarinet!
But it didn't sound as good as this, you're very talented.
Thanks for posting!!! Very nice.

you have BEAUTIFUL sound!!
:] I've been playing the clarinet for 4 years now.
I hope I can be that good one day
There is a version by Stanley Drucker released by International music that is transcribed/arranged for A clarinet.
omg the tone is so nice....gdgd

Excellent talent!

Damn...now I wish I had kept on playing the clarinet!
2:50 - 3:40
That, at least for me, is the 'magical' part of Vocalise...
it depends where you put it.
vibrato on the clarinet all depends on where the notes are placed.
They play this in C# minor , Eb minor for clarinet. But there are scores in Cm (Dm for clarinet) available. Unless he used a A clarinet.
i played this for my grade 6 yesterday :D but i played it alot slower! i think it sounds nicer slower :P x
i truly luv his style - i'm playing this with my wind ensemble...
Where did you get the arrangement for wind ensemble?
@@Clarinetman62 I can't recall where I played it. It's arranged by Roszell. There's a recording of it in TH-cam
@@Clarinetman62 th-cam.com/video/DBv9umOZ-sM/w-d-xo.html
Bravo Duy !
of course, most people tend to use lip vibrato, although, diapraghm and throat vibrato is still possible.
But beautiful,I heard 1 Czech clarinet playing a Mozart concerto with some lovely vibrato, very lively sound.
Lovely, well done...
Swiss Clarinet Player

Great clarinettist!!!!!;-)
GORGEOUS!!!
this is awesome
awesome!
Very Beautiful
When yur getting in to the music, your body moves with it. It very hard to control, considering it can help you keep beet in a way.
Beautifully! listen to this work in my execution Murtaeva Olga " ВОКАЛИЗ " Рахманинов(Vocalis)
very nice...
hey he should be in a hip hop video!!
maybe its not necessary, but perhaps its more like a side-effect. it just comes natural for some people. ill agree that too much movement is distracting, but it didnt bother me too much since the actual music was pretty well played. just a bit fast maybe....

GREAT MUSIC.
hey, you may also try "BK klassik" reeds. they are really good.
nice. nice tone. vibrato on the long notes would be a good idea, but still, very nice.
Yes totally true, Yet there are some players who learned their instrument strictly by written scores. I new a British champion cornettist who said,:" take the sheet with music away, and you get silence!!!"
its part of the clarinet grade 6 syllabus
I am a clarinettist. Of course any wind insrtument can use vibrato but, clarinets are not supposed to use vibrato. But then some professionals do
Lovely tone. What type of clarinet do you play? I have Boosey & Hawkes 1010s but feel it's time for a change.
An octave is an 8th interval - that is, when you depress an octave key, you produce the same note on the higher end of the scale. In other words, if you were to play a C4, then depress the octave key, you would produce a C5.

what kind of mouthpiece does he play you think? i need a new one...his tone is gorgeous!! what do you recommend? i play on an m13 lyre...

OK now im down to either the clarinet or the alto sax which one should I play and why?

im playing this for my grade 6 :D:D
He has a perfect pitch, please send me the music for that song.

good
playing this on horn and im playin it wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy slower, any suggestions slow or fast?
NO vibrato , it's good that way , you can't change the way that someone plays you can see that he really loves playing..
OMG is that daniel gonzalez?
look at the description.
The sound quality of the video is not the greatest, that could be why you think he's bad. Im sure if you were watching in person, it would be much better.

Why is there a tick tack of a small clock, alarm clock, not a metronom.???
clarinet if you like classical music
is that in the original key,? definiteley not in 2 flats as edited as a clarinet piece by Mel Bay publications. souned more like C#m
damn. ive been playin clarinet for one year and i FUCKING SUCK!!
dear, i agree wt u: movement's critical part of the music, but not the main one. this guy was not subtil on his mov. so it was enough, specially caude he bends a lot. it seems he's got a back acking, or he's unconfortable. in this case, that mov is not a critical part of rach's score, exactally cause in that score music can go on without a unquiet body. the performance takes place in sound quality, i see, not in gesture of musician.
Gorgeous. We should play together, I am a professional.
just buy the trumpet music if you want it for clarinet.
@nathan171192 samee! high 5
Whats that clock ticking??
amazing! so a clarinetist has to be a bit of a singer also...
I thought he was fine.. idk what you're hearing...
Hey,
Great preformance but it would help your breathing if you didn't move around so much. Maybe it helps you, I don't know.
Still a fantastic preformance!

The clarinet is just fine...the piano is as stiff as concrete..loosen up man and help this fine clarinet player
then go hide in an ally and rot in a sac LOL!!! thats funny! Im going to use that someday :)

Well controlled, but raise your music stand (or get rid of it altogether!) Good job.
not just too fast but also too many movements with body. unfair to watch.
