If you are interested gaol is pronounced like jail, the English just spell jail in a crazy way. Loved the video, very interesting.

Thanks for the tip. I usually use Google translate to get a sense of how a word is pronounced, I guess it may have been the American-English translation.

@@quillinkhistory9539 Consider using a dictionary's pronunciation guide instead. Not even American dictionaries endorse a pronunciation with a hard G.

Cool, there is lots of things I didnt know. The fact that the inquisition was a real improvement on law is eye-opening. It shows that history is written by the victors. I only heard in school how they oppressed protestants and reformist an how cruel they were.

This video only addresses certain civil legal proceedings in certain areas of Britain. If you were convicted of witchcraft or were a Jew or an apostate you not only died horribly, but you were gratuitously tortured beforehand in most parts of Europe. The Inquisition slaughtered tens of thousands of people. It was no improvement despite the marshmallow fluff the narrator is describing.

Wow! Thank you for this! I've been wathing lots of videos on the Medieval Ages since yesterday, it seems like the picture that we usually get of those times is exaggerated. Surely those were very hard and unpleasant times to live in, but they weren't complete wackos either.

Only 48 minutes late. Yeah I was wondering about this, if the law was so unjust would the Peasants not keep Revolting? Especially during the Early Modern Period. Edit: Also it is point not dot mate, when it comes to percentages.

What do you think of the idea that execution over centuries gradually purged the European gene pool of antisocial tendencies that might have been more common, say, in the Viking Age?

Gaol is pronounced Jail.... I know that it's not your native tongue but it'd be nice if you'd look the pronunciation up from time to time. I've no problem when your accent is the reason for the misspronunciation but when you're actually saying rye wrong word it mixes up the information you are trying to present. Especially when you do such good research and make such complete and good videos it seems a shame that something so small as asking a native speaker to tell you the correct way to say a word could make it less jarring to watch and help you get the information you've found over.

No matter how well-researched and clearly structured, mispronouncing key words like 'gaol' seriously impairs your credibility.
