Katie just realized that Derick is actually out of her league with his depth, and out look on life. She read the poem and instead of complimenting him, her insecurities screamed and she tried to put him down instead. She is actually shallow, very insecure, and immature.

The clip of Katie reacting to Derek’s childhood, which show he does have depth and isn’t just a dreamer, shows who she really is. Instead of being impressed she seemed actually disappointed. I think she is looking for reasons to dump him and annoyed she can’t find any.

This has nothing to do with Katie not supporting Derek with his dreams and goals. In my opinion she simply doesn't like who she was paired with and is essentially trying to sabotage this relationship w/Derek. I knew she was the wrong choice when in one of the first episodes she made a comment about her ex wanting her back, and she had that pitiful look of longing for him. She's kicking him down while he's trying and no good person with all the right intentions deserve that. Maybe once she gets the help she needs, they can revisit the idea, but as you can see by the talk about the ex, Katie isn't very comfortable with being alone... and maybe that's because toxic people hate quietness, constantly needs attention, and can't face themselves.

Katie could care less when Derek mentioned his past family issues. She showed absolutely no compassion towards him. But when she shared her story, all of a sudden, the tears flow and she gets emotional. She only cares about HER needs being met. Not anyone else.

You can artistically write a love poem without knowing anything about it yet. I have written poetry about love all my life but didn’t actually have my first kiss until a few weeks before my 20th birthday. So it’s totally doable you just have to have a good imagination. My dad was absent and he was the first guy I was writing poems for.

Derek deserves better than Katie and this might sound mean but Derek could get way better than Katie. Derek is a very good looking guy, with a really nice personality. Katie is not really all that attractive in personality. I will let her looks be judged by who ever wants to decide. The bottom line is that she kept trying to tare down Derek and act like she was more than she actually is. Her insecurities merited that. She was just weight that was going to always weigh down Derek, instead of being a blessing in his life. I hope he realizes that and doesn't let her whiney, immature, and ugly attitude affect him and cause him to guard his heart even more. I would like to see him be open to the right girl when she comes along, and she will, most likely when he is least expecting it.

I would love to have known what Katie‘s dad felt after he watched the show. She repeatedly made other people believe that Derek was very uncaring. I believe she was lucky to have him! She wants to fulfil the kid in herself but it’s not okay if Derek does. How could Katie be so upset about how he felt when he was in school compared to the present time. The jealousy she portrayed to seem to be very selfish. I’m not surprised a bit that they’re not together anymore.
