    Find your anchors and don't let them go. Tether to the Lord for dark times will show. What a powerful message.

    I can tell that you both have a great love for the scriptures! It's in the way you radiate and express yourself when you recount these stories and the perceived meanings. I must say that I have a bit of envy because I'm currently trying to fall in love with the scriptures myself. I've been inactive for most my life and only started coming back to church earlier this year after taking the challenge Pres. Nelson gave to read the Book of Mormon. I get really frustrated and discouraged at times when I don't immediately understand but I pray that with time and effort that I will one day have that "spiritual glow" you both possess!

      It takes time, but the effort is so worth it! There are days I feel in love with the scriptures and other days more distant, but the effort to try is what has made a difference in my life.

    The dirty rope is also awesome because you can see that some parts of the rope have torn a bit. Some parts of our testimonies may break, but because of all the other ropes tethered to it, it remains strong and can withstand the temporary storm that has damaged it.

    At the end, as I was listening to Emily describe the worn rope and comparing it to our lives, it brought to mind how my view of people has changed as I have gotten older. As a younger, naive person, it was easy to look at people and judge them for their lack of beauty, style, status or what the world considers "beautiful". With experience of life, and coming to know people's stories that view has changed. I now find beauty in imperfect bodies, dark circles under the eyes, wrinkled skin and not ideal life circumstances. I see stories of the battle of life, the triumphs and tragedies, and doing what it takes to overcome. I try to see them as God sees them and it has changed everything.

    THANK YOU for making these videos. It has changed how I study the scriptures and made them come alive for me! You come at it in such an approachable way but still with fresh new insights. I have found that by watching your video then reading the associated scriptures I get so much more understanding and depth. It prompts me to dig deeper into other resources to understand more. You give me a framework with which to approach the scriptures with empathy and understanding of the people in them. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

      I agree, an audio version would be nice. Currently, I use "voice memo" on my phone and record my own audio version every week so I can send them to my daughter who is on her mission. She loves it when I send them to her and we can have our own gospel discussions on her P-days.

    This was such a beautiful, insightful explanation of these chapters for me. My life is exactly here right now. My husband and I have spent years working toward a goal and he recently passed away. I have been left with the challenge to move forward alone. I have been moving...in rough waters so to speak. Today, this moment, I will hold to the rope we have tethered and finish the work. THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

    Thank you again for making me look good today as a gospel doctrine teacher. I had a couple ladies so excited that I did the rope lesson. They had watched your video and recognized it. I just grabbed some rope at Lowe’s-no time for cruise ship ropes. But it worked and I appreciate you guys and your insights and helping me to prepare my lessons.

    These videos are absolutely amazing! I am a new gospel doctrine teacher. I haven’t served a mission. I feel like my knowledge of the gospel is not as extensive as a gospel doctrine teacher’s should be. I was struggling with this week’s lesson- struggling to find how any of this could apply to me right now. Your last two videos have truly inspired me and strengthened my testimony. I’ve learned more as I listened to your videos about Paul then I have my whole life. Thank you for producing these!

    I like the beaten rope best, because it’s battered fraying bits show illustrate how that first rope wouldn’t have stood a chance anchoring amidst that storm. It’s a reminder to keep weaving in more threads of rope, because you never know how terrible your stormy days will get.

    This Rope analogy moved me to tears. I have experienced some very personal and powerful witnesses in relation to Paul's Mission, his story, and its relation to my story. I went through alot of repenting on my journey back into living the gospel. I can testify that the Lord meets you where you are! Regardless of where that is! You are truly instruments in The Lords hands! I have come to know Paul as never before. Your presentations have brought the spirit into my heart multiple times. May God bless you as you continue with this video channel.

    In our family....instead of anchors, we talked of our Doctrine Box. What does one put into their doctrine box? In mine, I put truths I know I can hold onto without any doubt. These are principles I hold fast to in times of my storms. I pull these truths out often and cling tightly to what I KNOW.

    I think Paul was committed to what he thought was truth from the beginning..... He thought the Christians were wrong- so he was committed to wiping them out. Is that your understanding? And then When Christ comes and he understands the Christians were right- that Jesus is in fact the Christ- He becomes all together committed to that and helping others who are wrong, as he was....see the truth as He did. I think God knew his heart- and his passion from the beginning.

    I love what you guys are doing and look forward to watching these each week. Just one suggestion, can you guys PLEASEEEEEE stop cutting each other off mid sentence. It makes it so hard to listen to and I’m left wondering what the end of the thought was going to be. It reminds me of fighting with my companion on the mission for talking time during a lesson. Please. It gives me anxiety.

  • @tanyastelly6243

    I hate to disagree with something, but "sounding" is done with a plumb line and there are knots that are equally spaced that they count. This was one of Mark Twain's first jobs on the Mississippi--to measure the river's depth.

    • @tanyastelly6243
      @tanyastelly6243 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael Burns That’s what I described. A plumb line is a weighted “string” or rope. You drop it down till it hits the bottom and take the measurement.
