I em from Slovakia, and I must say that I can't remember anyone being offended by this movie Most people just laughed about how much the movie got wrong, including the fact it wasn't even shot in Slovakia in the first place. They just shot the whole in a backwater Czech village. Like that clip on TV wasn't even in Slovak, that was in Czech (of course, Slovak TV DOES often show Czech movies and shows untranslated, so I guess it was TECHNICALLY accurate, alto I doubt it was due to actually doing research) Those begging children being all white was another mistake. Gangs like that do exist, but they are almost entirely gypsies, plus they are only found around shantie towns outside the city boarders. No way they would be even near the areas where nightclubs are located. The bit about art exhibitions being held in abandoned factories is true tho, but I guess that was just another lucky guess. At the end I would just like to inform everyone that Slovakia is one of the safest tourist destinations in the world. While I do appreciate this video, I'll admit, it is a bit dated in terms of reviewers at the time mainly reacting to the film itself rather than figuring out "why" these decisions were made and if there's more nuance to it. I just watched this review after watching Dead Meat's Kill Count of it, and James' video does provide some interesting context that makes the film more interesting than it appears on a surface level viewing, even including the decision to make the main characters assholes at the start. And again, that doesn't take away from Phelous' review, as he was obviously doing something different than what James did.
