In the original, the characters were douchey in a cartoonish sort of way, so at least someone could maybe make the argument that it wasn't meant to be taken seriously. In this remake though, the general lack of even basic emoting from the actors make the characters look like straight up sociopaths.

Agreed. I wouldn't have a huge problem with it if these remakes were any good. Most aren't. There are always exceptions of course, but by and large they're unnecessary. There are plenty of great scripts floating around, but Hollywood seems to prefer rehashing everything to death.
It's always considered safer to run with an already established IP. Many studios are brute-forcing this by trying to turn just about everything into a cinematic universe.

You know watching this, I feel like I can come up with a better remake. besides you know, having likable characters. How about a butch of people go up to a cabin for certain reasons. When they go up there and they end up getting infected by a unknown virus and they are smart enough to get help, but instead of getting treated, they end up getting Quarantine, and soon you see the group go mad, and the audience is left questioning if it's the virus or actual cabin fever that is causing there demise.
Or they go to a remote cabin for a Christmas get-together, and end up snowed in and unable to leave or get help due to the remoteness of the cabin leaving them without a signal or internet. As time goes on with no way to escape or get help, we watch members of the group slowly go mad. Maybe one of them has schizophrenia and runs out of meds, adding them hearing voices/seeing hallucinations to the cabin fever, with the voices suggesting the others are out to kill them and they should kill the others first, with the cabin fever-induced irritability only making things worse for them.
If they are quarantined wouldn't that mean they actually had a virus though? Otherwise, what would be keeping them in the cabin isolated long enough to go insane? I guess you could have them snowed in or something so they are trapped either way.
I said that they do have a virus, but it is unknown weather it's the virus that caused there madness or cabin fever itself. I mean sure they can be snowed in or something. But I'm kind of going by if someone asked me to make a remake of this POS film and it must include an unknown virus like this film, then this would be how I would probably set it up.

Just look at Wendigo Psychosis. It's actually a major hurdle for space-travel, as people will inevitably go stir-crazy if they're in close-quarters with people in a tiny tube floating in the void for extended periods of time. I don't know if it's just because old horror movies had a different mindset than we do today, but these days, it pays more to have likable characters instead of crappy characters in horror movies because it heightens the tension you feel watching them then they are in danger. I said this for a review of Rob Zombie's Halloween, but having the likeability of a Friday the 13th group of characters isn't fun these days. Hell, the 80s and 90s still had good quality horror protagonists like Nancy and Macready! I don't particularly hate Cabin Fever 1 but it does have plenty of weaknesses that this remake could have ironed out instead of amplifying the cringe. You could have made at least one smart and likeable character this time around.

In the early 2000s Twilight Zone series, there's actually a remake of "Eye of the beholder." It has the exact same problems as this movie and the Psycho remake, in that it's pretty much exactly like the original, shot for shot, with minimal differences.

Say what you want about Eli Roth, at least Cabin Fever and Hostel were memorable. The former had memorable moments, such as "Ooh, faced!" and the acting wasn't bad, it was mostly the script. The latter kicked off the torture porn trend that ravaged the late 2000's and early 2010's, so it surprisingly holds some significance to the history of horror cinema. This remake is not just beyond pointless, but pretty goddamn forgettable. I'd compare this to the Evil Dead remake, since the Evil Dead was cited as an inspiration for the original, and the ED remake is far better than this. The ED remake does give you a reason to care about the characters, this does not. The ED remake had that kickass climax, this had nothing memorable at all. The gore didn't look like silly putty in the ED, and thus looked juicier, this was obviously made on a shoestring budget. The ED remake deviated enough from the source material so that it didn't feel like a retread, this is LITERALLY THE EXACT SAME SCRIPT WITH SOME FAT SHAVED OFF. Oh, and when the ED remake was released, it was 2 decades the previous Evil Dead(Army of Darkness)film came out. This came out only 14 years after the original, further adding to it's pointlessness!
I think the stupid "Ooh Faced!" line is the only thing people remember about the first Cabin Fever and since it's not in the remake, that means the remake literally has nothing in it that's worth remembering 😒

You know watching this, I feel like I can come up with a better remake. besides you know, having likable characters.
How about a butch of people go up to a cabin for certain reasons. When they go up there and they end up getting infected by a unknown virus and they are smart enough to get help, but instead of getting treated, they end up getting Quarantine, and soon you see the group go mad, and the audience is left questioning if it's the virus or actual cabin fever that is causing there demise.
Or they go to a remote cabin for a Christmas get-together, and end up snowed in and unable to leave or get help due to the remoteness of the cabin leaving them without a signal or internet. As time goes on with no way to escape or get help, we watch members of the group slowly go mad.
Maybe one of them has schizophrenia and runs out of meds, adding them hearing voices/seeing hallucinations to the cabin fever, with the voices suggesting the others are out to kill them and they should kill the others first, with the cabin fever-induced irritability only making things worse for them.
You're right, that would be a much better remake of Quarantine.

It's actually a major hurdle for space-travel, as people will inevitably go stir-crazy if they're in close-quarters with people in a tiny tube floating in the void for extended periods of time. Go figure.
WHAT? The remake doesn't have the "OOOH, FACED!" line? That was literally my favorite thing in ANY Eli Roth movie, and Party Cop is not as hilariously obnoxious, so the remake has as much worth to me as the Psycho remake.

I don't know if it's just because old horror movies had a different mindset than we do today, but these days, it pays more to have likable characters instead of crappy characters in horror movies because it heightens the tension you feel watching them then they are in danger. I said this for a review of Rob Zombie's Halloween, but having the likeability of a Friday the 13th group of characters isn't fun these days. Hell, the 80s and 90s still had good quality horror protagonists like Nancy and Macready! I don't particularly hate Cabin Fever 1 but it does have plenty of weaknesses that this remake could have ironed out instead of amplifying the cringe. You could have made at least one smart and likeable character this time around.

In the early 2000s Twilight Zone series, there's actually a remake of "Eye of the beholder." It has the exact same problems as this movie and the Psycho remake, in that it's pretty much exactly like the original, shot for shot, with minimal differences.

Say what you want about Eli Roth, at least Cabin Fever and Hostel were memorable. The former had memorable moments, such as "Ooh, faced!" and the acting wasn't bad, it was mostly the script. The latter kicked off the torture porn trend that ravaged the late 2000's and early 2010's, so it surprisingly holds some significance to the history of horror cinema. This remake is not just beyond pointless, but pretty goddamn forgettable. I'd compare this to the Evil Dead remake, since the Evil Dead was cited as an inspiration for the original, and the ED remake is far better than this. The ED remake does give you a reason to care about the characters, this does not. The ED remake had that kickass climax, this had nothing memorable at all. The gore didn't look like silly putty in the ED, and thus looked juicier, this was obviously made on a shoestring budget. The ED remake deviated enough from the source material so that it didn't feel like a retread, this is LITERALLY THE EXACT SAME SCRIPT WITH SOME FAT SHAVED OFF. Oh, and when the ED remake was released, it was 2 decades the previous Evil Dead(Army of Darkness)film came out. This came out only 14 years after the original, further adding to it's pointlessness!
