Still gives me chills, such a fantastic cinematic opening. Nobuo's score is such a masterpiece. I had the 3 CD set and I used to listen to it all the time.
@@BigBoy257 Games are a form of play, not a form of aesthetic poetry. It’s a different species or classification. Games are bounded and unified by rules, objectives, mechanics, obstacles, challenge, achievement. Poetic forms like film, novels, stageplays are compositionally very different with very different goals from games. But what about the “story” and the “characters” in a game? A “story” in a game, like in FF6, is really functioning as a campaign. It gives players purpose and reason to engage in the design itself, which is to play, so it’s experienced as play in my opinion. I don’t think that distinction makes games of any kind, video game or tabletop or sports, culturally less significant by any means. FF6 is cherished and still my favorite in the series next to 12.
I bought the cart for the SNES, as FF III originally, on release day. One of the best US $80 I ever spent. The first time my friend, who was with me, and I watched this we both knew that this was going to be an epic game.
I'll never forget how me and my brothers reacted to this moment. The fucking intro and title screen weren't good enough, they had to throw this in too! Fucking ELITE!! FF6 and 4 are still my favorites in the series cuz of moments like this. 7 gets way too much credit.
Right on man, thanks for sharing! I was looking for a vid that showed just this part of the beginning. I thought I needed to post a video of it but I see now you have done just that!
FF 7 was the first one I ever played. Then I played 8 and 9. This was all in my teens. Now a lot older and with a fam and what not I don’t have the free time to invest in such an awesome game most likely. Then again one makes time for what’s important to oneself. But regardless, this intro sure is awesome. Thanks for posting it.
The same could be said for any other JRPG and visual novel, or basically any game with a preset plot. Unlike visual novels though, JRPGs offer a fair amount of choice in how exactly you go through the plot (using different characters, different techniques and equipment, powering them up to different amounts, doing or skipping exploration and side quests).

Such a materpiece.... I need to play it again. Still have my whole videogames collection.
I cannot listen this masterpiece without tears in my eyes
This scene is one of those moments in videogames that make me say "this is art".
Then you need to experience more art. This is a video game, not artwork.
@@matt-30-You really think video games can’t be art? Cmon, seriously?
@@BigBoy257 Heresy in our modern times, I know. But burn me at the stake.
@@matt-30- why don’t you view video games as art? Explain your reasoning
