There is every possibility that Gen Faiz may be getting prepared to take over the Pak Army from Gen Bajwa (he may want to retire), and Commanding a Corps may be a prerequisite to achieve that. Further, from his Corps HQ at Peashawar, he may still be in control of Afghanistan operations, as much it is today. It is another matter that the Taliban/TTP may have different thoughts.
