    I’m a pretty young artist right now, but I thought, “Why not go ahead and share my art early, and eventually grow/get better, instead of waiting around?” Hopefully these tips will help me on social media, cause I had NO idea how to promote my art 😂
    Really glad I discovered your channel!

    2:30 this is what I've been already doing, posting items as they are made in progress. The problem is that it is hard to engage people to share the posts, finished or unfinished.

    6:40 this is excellent information. Too often after a customer requests information and shows interest but once the money issue comes they can cut off contact like their town lost an internet connection. All they would have to do is email that they will not do it, and that would be fine. Some do that, but most don't. If they had the time to find you, and had the time to ask for a particular item, it would be also nice if by the same token they took a few seconds to follow through too, and not just cut off silent.

      Bijoux Art Jewellery und Kunst everyone loves paintings till money comes up then they run away after the sugar Rush and brain fart it's funny watching the back peddle and panic you didn't lose the sale it was never there to start save time let them run.caviar taste fishcake money have no confidence in yourself be nutty a little and you will sell and have the lot (Tom Harding) don't forget the buyers want you dead the minute they buy so painting will be worth millions they all will regardless of what they say so mention you don't feel too good

    Thanks for these tips. I have been painting for a few years now although I still consider myself a beginner. I have a FB art page with some followers and have sold a few (very few) paintings as commissions but have not really concentrated on that as I have been in the learning phase. Now however I find my work is not bad and I need money for more supplies. Also today one of my Facebook friends from my personal page asked if I had been painting and why I hadn't posted anything. So I will implement your suggestions and keep coming back to your page.

    Many thanks for the advice; I went back over the video , taking notes on your key points. I think that most artists find the business of selling : how to do it and how to approach the subject in a friendly but businesslike way, pretty daunting. Now we have a concise and simple [ we shall see ... ] way of selling our work. Kind of you to be so helpful !

    This video is so helpful. I have been thinking about selling my art (besides commissions) for a long time, and never do, because I find shipping and dealing with orders very intimidating. I love how this video simplifies it so much and how you discussed about different ways that it could be done on Facebook. It totally seems less scary now :)

      I'm so glad you've found it helpful, Angela. Shipping used to give me SUCH anxiety but only because I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. Hopefully with a bit more knowledge of the process you'll feel more comfortable about it now - good luck to you!! :)

      I know exactly what you mean, because I feel this way but I can't let it stop me, I need to start at some point. Well, after all it is all trial and error in the end I guess, especially with the technical part of being an artist. Thank you once again for your video and your reply :) have a nice day

    I am on the road towards selling my artwork on Facebook and I am really encouraged that I have already been doing a lot of the things that you have recommended in this video.
    I have just had four months on furlough leave although this is due to end shortly as my employers have now found me work I can do at home.
    In this time I have been building up my portfolio and during the furlough period I have consistently been releasing a new picture every week, on the same day. Obviously I knew that furlough would end eventually and I have actually been turning out two pictures a week, sometimes more. Even if I do no more now I am working I have enough already complete to keep me going until the end of June. Obviously I will be continuing to create new work. I also post other things on Facebook, and if I post picture on a walk people know that eventually I will do a landscape or a picture of an old village. My Facebook following has not exactly grown exponentially however I get several new friends a week and I have been sharing on selected Facebook groups. A few of my recent pictures of mountains in the Scottish Highlands have had many hundreds of viewings, dozens of comments and other shares.
    Because I will be selling limited edition prints the next step will be a better printer. We are still on lockdown in the UK so this will wait until I can actually visit a physical shop because I don't want to spend hundreds of pounds on a piece of kit that really isn't the best purchase I could have made.
    Thank you so much, I have naturally liked and subscribed!

    very insightful Ellen! Thank you for sharing. I pretty much direct customers to my etsy shop on FB but I've just had more movement on IG...then again, I put more energy into IG (I do share those posts on FB)...there is only so much time and IG is just easier with my phone, etc. This video has me rethinking the whole FB angle, though...it's just sort of mentally draining with all the algorithms, paid promotions, etc...can be really challenging to get one's work out there. I've been working on process videos as people seem to really like those (I know I do) but all this tech takes me out of the creative space for painting! :)

    • @EllenBrennemanStudio
      @EllenBrennemanStudio  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Angela Casey you took the words right out of my mouth! I get easily frustrated with things that keep me from painting and there's always something new to learn! While I like IG, I do very little business there for some reason. Could very well be that my customer base doesn't really use IG, which is yet another reason why it's so important to know who our customers are 😊. Thanks so much for your comment!

      I have heard this from a lot of people so you are not alone. A good friend of mine has over 20,000 followers on FB and rarely makes a sale there. I do well there, so it's important to try and see if it is for you; if it isn't you'll know and can move forward with no regrets. FB has recently changed their algorithms (again) which will impact the way artists do business on there. I just uploaded a video on this, or do a Google search; it may help you deal with how to do business there :)

    One question I had about sells , is weather or not I should sell the original or on sells of prints of the originals ? The originals can be rather large and heavy and are difficult to hang,thus causing another barrier for my discision of weather or not to sell the originals.Thank you again for all you knowledge its been very helpful,Barbara Marmon-Baldo

    • @EllenBrennemanStudio
      @EllenBrennemanStudio  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, Barb! This is a good question. I think it all depends on whether or not you truly wish to sell them. If you do, there is no harm offering them for sale. If the right person comes along and wants to purchase one, then it's better to have that option in my opinion 😃

    6:50 if they were brave enough to get online, and brave enough to ask for a specific item, that should also work by the same token on following through, but most of the time that just does not work that way, unfortunately, and any communication after that continues like someone cut the internet line.

    I have a business page on fb, but most of my followers are friends, not customers or art buyers. I'm not sure if it would be worth it to do some of the things you advise. What do you think?

    • @EllenBrennemanStudio
      @EllenBrennemanStudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you would be doing the exact same thing on your business page as you are doing on your personal page, probably not. However, if you intend on projecting yourself as a business, I feel it's worth it, especially if you're trying to reach more people - or, if you ever intend on doing FB ads since you can't do that from a personal page.

    This is very helpful. I would like to know more about how your price each pieces. How do you feel about creating digital downloads for posters and smaller wall art?

    • @EllenBrennemanStudio
      @EllenBrennemanStudio  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rose Fonseca pricing is a very personal decision. I would recommend that you search online for other artists work who is similar to your own and who has a similar following and then price accordingly. Someone who has been selling online and has a good reputation will be able to sell their work for a bigger profit than someone just starting out.
      As for digital downloads I personally do not sell them because you are basically giving the rights to your work away for a small fee. It’s better to protect yourself so that others don’t take advantage of that. Of course that’s my personal preference as it pertains to my own work. There are many artists out there to feel differently so it would be a good idea to get their take and then base your decision accordingly. 😊

    When you sell a water colour painting, do you frame it or just sell as is, OR just a print framed or not framed?

    • @EllenBrennemanStudio
      @EllenBrennemanStudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Wendy :) I don't frame my work because it is too costly to ship framed work under glass. If I'm at an art fair, however, I generally offer a few framed pieces/prints but most people prefer to choose their own mats and frames themselves, so I mainly offer just prints and originals unmated and unframed.

    Hi Ellen, sorry I have another question... What's the difference between charging by the Square inch or by the Liner square inch? thank you so much

    • @EllenBrennemanStudio
      @EllenBrennemanStudio  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! 😊 A square inch is calculated by the length of the object by the width of the object in inches. A linear inch is an easier way to calculate. It measures the length, regardless of what the width is… Same as if you were purchasing fabric by the yard.

    Hi Ellen, thank you for your videos. I have watched them all and find them to be very helpful. You are detailed in your information and cover topics that I want to be educated in. I have been painting for several years and only now want to begin selling my work. I would like your opinion on how you price your work and what you have learned along the way. Also, your art pieces are beautiful. I like your subjects and the vibrant colors you choose. Thank you in advance.....

      Carol, hello - and thank you for your comment and appreciation of my work - very kind of you! I'm happy to learn that you're ready to begin selling your work. Pricing is one of the most difficult things an artist can struggle with and it truly varies on the time it takes to create a piece, the price of the medium/substrate and the size. I have been contemplating a video on this; I will add it to my list of topics for a future video. Thank you for your question :)

    Great tips! You mentioned canvas, do you outsource for printing of canvas, or are you doing the printing in-house?

    • @EllenBrennemanStudio
      @EllenBrennemanStudio  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do not do in-house printing on canvas. I don't receive enough requests for that in order for it to be cost effective enough to purchase the equipment needed. There are many, many different printing places that offer this service at various price points. I'd recommend selecting a couple and ordering samples so see which one best suits your needs.

    I wish i could give 100 thumbs up. Sooooo helpful. I am diving into this world and your advice helps so much. I have just one question that i think about often as its happened to me before...when posting pucs of final artwork to facebook..do you watermark them to protect theft...or how do you get around this problem?

    • @EllenBrennemanStudio
      @EllenBrennemanStudio  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Annette thank you so much for your kind comment. To answer your question, yes - I always have my name on the image so that it can be easily seen by anyone looking at it. Also, you want people to be able to find you should they have questions or want to purchase your work. If someone truly wants to steal a piece of artwork they can, unfortunately; this is the risk of putting art onto the Internet. The pros far outweigh the cons, though. The best way to protect oneself is to upload small images, never full sized. I hope this helps! 😊

    Thanks for the tips! Now I'm interested in learning about the shipping - sounds like you've got a lot to share! I'm worried about under-pricing for large canvases. . . Thoughts?

    • @EllenBrennemanStudio
      @EllenBrennemanStudio  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shipping is tricky for sure, and can be expensive! I save much of my packaging from shipments I get on Amazon to recycle for larger works. And as for pricing, you can go to USPS (that is, if you live in the US) and plug in your info to get an accurate price on shipping for that size/weight. Don't forget to add in whatever materials you have to purchase in order to ship your paintings, too. Hope this is helpful - good luck!

    Hi, I am starting to get a better understanding of how to go about selling my art, seems people want to see the inner workings of making art and people want to get to know the artist. This is what I want to from other artists too.
    I have a Art based Facebook page.
    I would be interested in seeing a video on how you gain a following on Facebook.
    I find your videos helpful, you come from a perspective I understand fairly well.

      Hi, Sean - so glad you're finding these helpful. The video I created about how I successfully gained followers can be found by following this link: th-cam.com/video/f4kTLO-Zyec/w-d-xo.html
      Facebook has changed their algorithms since the creation of this video which makes it a bit more challenging however, these tips still hold true today...it may just take a bit more time. Facebook is always changing, it seems. Adapting to them so that they can still work for artists is about all we can do. Best of luck!

    Very helpful. I'm getting ready to share my art with the world. I have a business page now and the only way Facebook will share my work from that page is only if I pay them a lot of money. I'm curious about the art page set up. Can you tell me if you are able to keep it completely separate from your profile page?

    • @EllenBrennemanStudio
      @EllenBrennemanStudio  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your comment ☺️ Yes, my art page is totally separate from my personal one. However, FB will attempt to squash your posts regardless. Many artists I know are using their personal page as their business/art page now. There are benefits to this (posts getting seen more) but I believe there is a limit as to how many 'friends' you can have.

      Ellen Brenneman Studio
      Once you sell a painting how do you indicate that the painting is no longer for sale , do you take it off the page or just state it’s sold .

    • @EllenBrennemanStudio
      @EllenBrennemanStudio  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ruckrova Thank you for clarifying! Once a painting has sold, I edit the post by putting the word SOLD at the very top, or, 'Edit - SOLD' so that people know it's no longer available. I do not delete posts. Leaving them up, even if a work is no longer available, allows people to see the range of work I'm capable of producing - like a portfolio. I hope this answers your question :)

    What resolution do you suggest using on facebook to advertise your images to prevent someone right clicking and saving it off FB?

    • @EllenBrennemanStudio
      @EllenBrennemanStudio  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question! I normally set mine around 600x600 dpi. Unfortunately, no matter how I've set my resolution, whether it be higher OR lower, I've seen my images used in several unauthorized ways. As artists we need to do things to protect ourselves as much as possible but it's also important to remember that there will always be those who try to ruin a good thing. Right now is the best time to be an artist due to the reach you can have through the internet and social media so do what you can to protect yourself but don't let a select few discourage you from putting your work out there. Hope this helps :)
