Great advice! People think sticky hands or chi sao is garbage, or that joint locks never work in real life, but only if they don't understand what's being taught, which is to encounter and deal with resistance by feel, which is totally valuable in a fight. There's a time and place to subdue someone without striking them--especially with everything being recorded now and society becoming more sensitive and litigious--but knowing when to escalate or not is key.

This is exactly what I was asking about before, working with a less responsive or more resistant opponent. Best maxim I've heard along these lines is "Cultivate a sense of changing your mind."

I was just thinking about this and your video popped up. I was trying to show my son a move you illustrated. He’s 6’3” and a big man. We were wondering how you guys overcome strength. Thanks brother

Your lessons are ones of the best on YT, much unrecognized still.
You are always getting to the point in a short and simple way, showing and explaining the essential concepts.
Thank you VERY much for sharing your knowledge and experience. ❤
    P. S. If I may have one tip, you tend to speak too fast, so non-native english speakers might struggle understanding, which could stear them away. I got kinda used to it, because I saw that you know, but many people will skip to some “youtube-only master” before they understand it.

Fair point. Hard to find middle, don't want video to go on to long but want to get info out. I will see if I can make them a little more clear.

This was a really functional video. Like Catch wrestling, if you don"t get if then flow to next submission , or then go back to where you might be able to get it.

Strike and then lock. The strike takes their mind off holding you strongly and allows you an opening to put the lock on. 3.00 mins you take his mind off it - that's it.

Thks & you do joint locking well ??What is the lineage of your joint locking??
Oh, I was on Okinawa in the 80's & got a 2nd black-belt in pre-war jitsu there with similar joint locking (included aikido/judo/etc). After I returned to the-US, I couldn't really find competent joint locking. For ex: competent joint locking requires no strength at-all (but incompetent joint locking requires a lot).

Mostly from Karate and Systema. I did take a few years of aikido. Enjoy going to aiki jitsu seminars. On tape enjoy watching Wally Jay and Yang Wing Ming.
