Definitely best used as a send effect. The Arturia one is good, too. And Little Plate I like layered in with others (I don't like it as much on its own).
I’d vote for more comparisons like this. Dang, they all sound so different. Hard to choose. I personally liked the Hofa and the Denise the best in their sound. The question is, which one would be the best for an over the top 80’s drum track?
I wouldn't go with a mechanical plate for 80s sound. They are associated with 60s and 70s records. I would go with an algorithmic reverb. Particularly one of the Lexicon programs or the QRS (Quantec).

Very great demo - the best I'd found was the Valhalla Vintage Verb set to Sanctuary - EMT-250 - Big Snare, that is until... I just got the Arturia Rev-Plate 140 and I have to say it does sound pretty realistic ;-)
When auditioning the default settings, keep in mind that some developers set the mix knob to 100%, assuming that most people will use the reverb on a bus as opposed to inserting an instance into each channel's effects box, In which case, a 50% setting would be more appropriate..

I am a huge fan of Plate Reverbs. I tried many different plugins , Arturia, Trans Atlantic, Soundtoys, UVI etc. The best you can get ITB is of the 3rd party developer Cupwise FX (Acustica Audio Nebula commercial is required for those). It has depth and attitude!
@@victorbarnes6898 hi Victor, i have them all. The libraries of VNXT of the EMT are nice as well. Totally different sound. You can have a listen to the audio demos at Cupwise to see which one(s) you like the most :)
I like this video! I think it would be great to do a follow-up video with a mix...maybe the top 3 plate reverb plugins that you liked in two different genres of music. =)
I've bought the perfect plate a while ago, not giving it a good enough testing (it was on sale). That drop off gets quite bad with certain instruments. It doesn't just fade fast, but smoothly: it fades step-wise. Higher frequency ranges just get turned off from high to low like someone is flipping switches. That algorithm of theirs is strange. It works better as a creative effect reverb than natural reverb imo, which is does well with all its extra functions.
Maybe you did check while testing, but during the presentation after tweaking, you changed presets on Valhalla, overwriting your tweaks, so we never got to hear it with the model with right attack and right settings
Oril River was surprising. Quite good. Reverberate was predictably good. Not surprising, the real EMT was the smoothest. My personal trick for getting very smooth plate reverb sounds from a plugin - use two different ones layered over each other. Takes some tweaking to get the finished result where you want it, but it’s worth it.
Hi, you are conducting a quite interesting comparison here. Thanks. What I would like to find out is, which plugin has the best CPU Performance vs which has best Sound, so in my experience most of the reverbation plugins can be really taking a lot of CPU away or introduce a lot of latency due to convolution FIRs with long Impulse Responses.

Again an awesome video… I have a few of them… trying to down size because I have too many plugins…. Lol
I personally like this kind of videos ! It makes me loose less hair trying to find a good plugin !
BTW : Arturia plate has an eq section that you can open by clicking the top right expand button.
This is fantastic - was really surprised with the differences. You should try UVI Plate and Black Rooster Audio RO-140
I've been looking for a plugin plate with depth. Thanks. I'll look into it. They have several plate reverbs. What do you own?
@@victorbarnes6898 hi Victor, i have them all. The libraries of VNXT of the EMT are nice as well. Totally different sound. You can have a listen to the audio demos at Cupwise to see which one(s) you like the most :)
I like this video! I think it would be great to do a follow-up video with a mix...maybe the top 3 plate reverb plugins that you liked in two different genres of music. =)
Soundtoys Little Plate is also a great plugin. I'm so happy with it that I don't really feel the need to get another plate for a long time.
Do Spring Reverb next plz
One of the best plate reverbs in plugin form is Acustica Audio Ebony!
N4 3rd are evenbbetter
Do you ever review Kush plugins? Would like to hear your thoughts om that operation.
I like how they sound all together 😂
Hi, you are conducting a quite interesting comparison here. Thanks. What I would like to find out is, which plugin has the best CPU Performance vs which has best Sound, so in my experience most of the reverbation plugins can be really taking a lot of CPU away or introduce a lot of latency due to convolution FIRs with long Impulse Responses.
I like convolution reverb. It's as simple as scrolling through impulse responses.
