Easter Heovdi - Foula

Easter Heovdi, is a tune I composed after a trip to Foula with Shetland band Haltadans. We stayed at Ristie in the north end of the island, the Gaada stack and sea cliffs were literally on our doorstep. Haltadans played a concert in the hall and we spent several days exploring the island, playing tunes and had several music sessions with the Foula folk. A very memorable time.
The East Heovdi is the headland you can see in the film with the natural arch. The view from there, looking out along the spectacular North Banks of Foula inspired the music.
Foula lies about 20 Miles to the west of the Shetland Islands and it’s name Norse name Fugley, means bird island. The Kame is Britain’s second highest sea cliff and highest sheer sea cliff at 1,234Ft, it’s peak shrouded in the mist at the end of the film.
I have had many amazing trips to Foula over the years. To best experience Foula I would recommend staying at least a few nights, you will probably want to stay longer as there is a lot to see. Take time to explore the island, adjust to Foula time, experience amazing sunsets, and see the sunrise over Shetland. In summer the cliffs are home to thousands of seabirds.
