Always difficult, or a lot of work to repaint any machine tool, most attempts make them look older, more knackered. Have a great weekend all. Best regards John.
"How do you know which side to paint?" Kurtis won't be forgetting that question for a while. Great video, and that Zayer is a really interesting shop machine. Thanks again.
If that happened in a plant with lots of employees, you'd be nicknamed 'Wrong Side Kurtis', and have to suffer your work 'mates' shouting 'IT'S THE OTHER SIDE Kurtis' several times a day. I can think of workmates who kept disparaging nicknames for 30 plus years. There some you wouldn't say to their faces, like Black Jack because he would throw a hammer at you, but it was 'character building'.
The quality of production is really great now, your work is really amazing Karen. Kurtis keeps the customers happy with his outstanding quality and attention to detail. Homey makes us all smile with his antics. 😊❤❤❤
Another reason among many, to watch these videos is that Kurtis does not beg for likes and subscribes. He credits viewers with the intelligence to know how that one works!
I never miss an episode. As a tradesman for the last fifty years it's very gratifying to watch someone with your skills and experience. I also like Homey Cam!
I love the fact that you've allocated time for shop projects, and that you follow it even if the original thing can't be done. It's nice to have a "break", where you get to do something you enjoy to make your work go smoother. Much love from me and my 45kg dog that's sleeping on my lap like all Friday mornings! ❤
And it's not just about the break, but also putting work into the shop, maintaining it. SO many people fail to do this and the shop just degrades bit by bit along with their productivity. Most of my big machines are taken from such shops, because they couldn't keep up anymore. And all the stories are the same. "Just one too many problems."
I believe Kurtis has said these maintenance projects take place on the weekend so really no break involved. One day they will catch up on everything then it will only be minor maintenance from then on. 👍
There is always something that you wish was just a little bit better. And yes time off is great. The weekend is the best time to do projects and repairs. Unless you have a customer sleeping in your shop waiting for his job to get done. When I watch the rebuild videos it's. This is what we are doing today. Usually it all things that would drive me mad and if I didn't change them to not be dreaded then I believe that I would start to resent the occupation that I love. It's always better to have work look and feel like play then to be something that you have to do. I don't think that I have seen a video yet that was not a master playing with his craft. That is to all three of you. Even when Curtis has been so frustrated that he has to take a breath. He gets right back at it and if it wasn't part of the video then one would never know that there was something that didn't work out according to plan. The breath is just stop drop and roll before the fire comes and then the next thing we know the approach is changed and it's like nothing didn't work as planned. You always know that you are with a master that enjoys their craft when they stop and take five before the job ends up in the bin, or every step is so though out that it looks like hay maybe I could do that to and the first and last time I tried to mill something I broke every tool I tried to use and when I welded two parts together they looked like I got hungry and tried to eat them. But you know I think that despite my having two separate parts and not a welded part. I think that I might be able to do that. Please remember that work is play and play is work with a deadline. And with no you time or we time. You end up working a job. I hope that you will always be able to never have work be a dreaded job but rather it be something that just is because you orchestrated everything. Meaning it was for no other reason then you were there.
Kurtis, you should be known as‘ Above and Beyond’ engineering ! Every single job I have seen you do really IS above and beyond, nothing is ever left to chance, every ace is covered! I wish there were more people like you!😎👍😁
This is what sets apart a good operator from an excellent operator! Machine maintenance! Everyone can put grease in a grease fitting, but very few do actually care for the machine in a way that's truly important. Repair broken parts, fix way covers, fix broken Oil lines. It's spending a few hundred bucks to keep an almost unbreakable, very reliable and very expensive machine in service for many more years. THATS what's keeping these beautiful machines alive!
That mill brings back memories from my apprenticeship and the huge Cincinnati mills we had. Hare & Forbes are pretty good! and easy to deal with. This video brought back some old memories for me. My first "professional" machine shop job, (meaning that I was actually paid), was to clean a 40? yo Turret lathe for my Grandfather's shop. It was about 8 foot wide. That lathe looked as if it had never had a good cleaning, ever. It took me about a week to clean out about 5-6, 5 gallon buckets of really awful grease, coolant residue, and chips. It was back in about1965. It's been about 60 years now, and I can still remember the horrible smell of the debris! My older brother recently told me that he had worked on that cleaning job as well, but I don't remember him working on it with me, because at that time we didn't get along very well, so I guess we worked on it separately. I was about 10-11 yo, but I'd been "working" and learning about machining from him since I was about 6yo. He was a very patient teacher and taught me as if I was much older. I became the owner of his machine shop equipment about 40 years later, and I still operate the equipment, but that turret lathe had been sold previously.
Kurtis, it's always fun to see your latest project whether it is a shop or customer project, your attention to detail and how you approach each job is a testament to the quality of work both you and Karen do because without her, we wouldn't know about you!! Also, you mention your brother from time to time. I take it he's camera shy but I think it's cool you can work together. You have a great shop and I do enjoy your interaction with the wildlife that visits you. I hope you remain as successful as you want to be. You have a great channel!!!
Great to see you putting regular time into keeping the workshop in top shape and being flexible enough to pivot when it's not possible to immediately move forward with the project you had scheduled.
I just love this channel and try to watch it daily if I can. Being retired I should have all the time in the world, but nope. Seem to have something else all the time. But it is great to get on and actually comment. Just keep up the amazing work Kurtis and Karen, and Homie! Love the channel, love the work. I have so many questions, but don't want to bother you with them all. Keep up the good work!
Precision in your field is so very crucial... I am so privileged to witness this... Good on you guys. Excellent... Oh no, popcorn finished... now I need to do a precision clean...☺
Wise man. I used to tell my students that at the wedding ceremony a transition takes place that most men don't notice. You are being trained that while the three little words are still important, you are to now use two little words at critical moments. From "I love you" to "Yes, Dear". That was a ,"Yes Dear" moment if I ever saw one. Great job!
Paint job looking sharp, always enjoy seeing your process of working through problems. Particularly liked the 'I am going to admit fault and say that Karen was right' moment. You guys are too funny together. Cheers for the video, keep up the great content!
Don't change a thing with these videos they are always perfect. The dialog, pacing, animals, out takes its just all a perfect production. You have done something those in hollywood always seek, that indescribable magic.
Hey you two. We have yet another week gone. First thing that caught my eye was the big lathe in the background all covered up. It tells the tale of respect for your equipment. Keeps people from piling things on it that can damage the ways. The color you use on the guards is perfect. Are you thinking about doing a lot more painting ? Seems you have enough to polish up the whole line up. It will make the whole shop a lot brighter. Something to be really proud of. Great post Kurtis and Karen, You two sure make some great videos. Handy too if you have trouble rembering of on a job like the new crane. Was it here or over there, LOL, There is always a chuckle or two when you two entertain us. THANKS EH !
Been watching you since 21-22 era, not sure specifically. Was stuck in USA for Covid and got back to Phuket and was surprised to find so many of my Aussie friends were aware of you. Truly appreciate what you do and how hard you work with precision. Keep up the professional approach to your business. Cheers
The Councils Working, five men leaning on shovels and one working. I drove JCB's and hated being on hire to the council, although I had a 4in1 clam bucket I could not pick up the last pea size bit of gravel due uneven surface. Yet five men would give me all differing hand signals to try and do it. I'd just jump out of the cab and kick it into the bucket with my foot.
I am an amateur home machinist and I have been watching your videos for some time now. I am absolutely amazed at your problem-solving skills. I can diffidently see applying some of your solutions to my own projects. Keep the videos coming.
Thanks you three, and good job all around for the exercise of humility in the event of correct and incorrect. And also, good looking out on hooking Max up with some tooling, that's a solid smile in principle.
SCHEDULING shop maintenance & repair time.. truly professional. So many will only take the time after it breaks. It’s panic time then. Scheduling PM keeps things so much better. And aren’t those just the prettiest swarf guards?😊
But also a master of them all, except maybe painting the right side. BUT You didn’t paint the wrong side, you applied an extra layer of rust and scratch protection!
Having done dozens of similar cleanings of machines that I was responsible for, I can almost smell the machine as you do this. It's always great to have thing cleaned and "buttoned up" again afterwards.😊
It’s brilliant that you are not afraid to show when Kurtis has made a silly mistake like painting the wrong side. And even better that you’re happy to show that Karen was right and Kurtis was wrong, well done. That’s real strength
“Are you ready?!” “I said, ARE YOU READY?!” “From Queensland, Australia; here’s Kurtis and Karen!” Another weekend is coming and the two of you are providing the edutainment for (at least) a million of us humans. THANK YOU SO MUCH! Best regards, Alan Tomlinson

happy birthday mate! 🎉 Hope you have a great day
From the US have a safe and happy B-day🎉
I love your little Homeless special clips. I can’t help but chuckle at his behaviour.
Another in house job off the list, thanks for sharing have a great weekend.
I like your double takes, they are so humorous. You are special. Well-done, my friend, keep up the good work.
I absolutely love the channel, wait patiently for the uploads on Thursday nights (here in Canada). I learn something new every episode
Don't change a thing with these videos they are always perfect. The dialog, pacing, animals, out takes its just all a perfect production. You have done something those in hollywood always seek, that indescribable magic.
Good day, another very nice video. I always look forward to seeing your videos on Fridays.
Ton from the Netherlands.
THANKS EH !
When you started removing parts from the milling machine and wiping it down I could smell every engineering workshop I've ever been in.
I thought I was the only one 🤣
Been watching you since 21-22 era, not sure specifically. Was stuck in USA for Covid and got back to Phuket and was surprised to find so many of my Aussie friends were aware of you. Truly appreciate what you do and how hard you work with precision. Keep up the professional approach to your business. Cheers
Aussie engineering at its best, " The Council," sounds so british, though 😊.
Great work all.
Thanks for sharing.

Homie makes me smile every time i see how happy he is. Super awesome furbaby
great work mate, love all the shop videos bud. keep all the videos coming because they are the highlight of the week.
I am hugely impressed with your dedication to maintaining your equipment and machinary. Well done fella.
Kurtis and the loverly Karen, I always enjoy your video's machine maintenance is so very important but will pay off well into the future.😊
I am an amateur home machinist and I have been watching your videos for some time now.
I am absolutely amazed at your problem-solving skills. I can diffidently see applying some of
your solutions to my own projects. Keep the videos coming.
So grab yourself a coffee and have a relaxing time while Kurtis and Karen do the work. Love it.
Thanks you three, and good job all around for the exercise of humility in the event of correct and incorrect.
And also, good looking out on hooking Max up with some tooling, that's a solid smile in principle.
The new display looks great. Once again a terrific job thank you for sharing.👍
I just love how you guys are keep investing in the workshop thats the way to do it! Thanks for the videos
Good day and love you all from Canada
Curtis, I truly appreciate and admire the work you do. I love the editing of your videos. Thank you for making my Fridays better.😊
Karens progress as a videographer & editor matches Kurtises skills…Her commentary is a nice bonus 👍🏻🤩😁🧐
SCHEDULING shop maintenance & repair time.. truly professional. So many will only take the time after it breaks. It’s panic time then. Scheduling PM keeps things so much better.
And aren’t those just the prettiest swarf guards?😊
You are definitely the jack of all trades
But also a master of them all, except maybe painting the right side.
BUT
You didn’t paint the wrong side, you applied an extra layer of rust and scratch protection!
@@samleigh7817 and don’t forget bullshit proof
Having done dozens of similar cleanings of machines that I was responsible for, I can almost smell the machine as you do this. It's always great to have thing cleaned and "buttoned up" again afterwards.😊
I saw ya use the corner of the flat head in the Philips screws, ya savage 😂
I love watching you do full restorations
So much more pleasant to work with any time you upgrade your gear 😌
You guys do such great work. Fantastic to see small businesses with get up and go. Love it.
Thank you as always K, K & H 👍
Wow, I have seen that machine many times in your videos, but I did not realize it was that long. Big thanks!!
Once again, this brongs up childhood memories about RTS games)) "Upgrading. Building. Unit ready." And, of cource, victory in he end!)
That satisfying plastic film peel. Love it.
You have to love a man who's not afraid to admits fault.
No, It's called discretion, in my case, after 60yrs, I know.
26:19 I'm smiling to the TV like an idiot because that Kurtis smile is so beautiful. That's a great smile mate. Entertaining video as well❤
Weekend is here finally
It’s brilliant that you are not afraid to show when Kurtis has made a silly mistake like painting the wrong side. And even better that you’re happy to show that Karen was right and Kurtis was wrong, well done. That’s real strength
Good morning from the UK 👋🇬🇧
That dog is hilarious. He looks like a vicious beast but he has a kittens heart!
“Are you ready?!”
“I said, ARE YOU READY?!”
“From Queensland, Australia; here’s Kurtis and Karen!”
Another weekend is coming and the two of you are providing the edutainment for (at least) a million of us humans. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Best regards,
Alan Tomlinson
Thanks so much for the entertaining video. Loved when Kurtis when he admitted his mistake and Karen did not rub it in!
