I purchased three of of the Arran 18 in the 750ml, haven’t opened one yet… waiting for the Holidays, I prefer sherry in the winter ex-bourbon in the warmer months
I love Arran. The distillery was my first to visit (Total of 29) You are right about the distillerycharacter. It is always present. Great review and yes bourboncask rules😀
I opened this tonight and one note I was getting on the palate was treacle toffee. When you said blackcurrant I nearly punched the air, but I got that too. Excellent bottle and pleased to open this on my birthday.
Great notes mate! Have yet to try the revamped Arran 18 yo. Had 2 bottles of the old expressions, and quite enjoyed both a lot, although I did feel as if from the last 1/3 of the bottle on, it sort of lost its touch a bit and became slightly 'generic'. But as I hear only good things about the current bottling, I'm excited to trying one too. Cheers Andy!
a beauty of a whisky i had the 21 year old last week off a malt mate it was beautiful. i cant wait to see what they do with the lagg distillery in the south of Arran
Recently opened my bottle of this too. Lovely stuff ! I also had a 4oz sample bottle of the old version of the 18 for side by side comparison. They are two completely different things. The older ones are a combination bourbon and sherry casks with I think a larger amount of bourbon. Very much an apples and oranges comparison but fun anyway. For me the older 18 was similar to the 14 but a big upgrade in the rich cask flavors. If you come across the older 18 bottle think you would love it too. Cheers
@@WhiskyLoversSociety I can see that in fact I do too. It has more complexity to explore for me but I also love sherry bombs too. Now that Glendronach 18 has passed over the time where it no longer contains much older casks than the number on the bottle the new Arran 18 will be my choice for that kind of bottle. Cheers
@@DonnerPassWhisky I still have a Glendronach 18 bottled in 2019. Will open that when I reach 1000 subs. What is interesting about it is the price. I bought it for 89€. I see people are selling it for 150 to 200. Just incredible.
@@WhiskyLoversSociety Great! I recently opened a 2018 Glendronach 18 and still have a 2019 put away. They were $170 in the US back then but bought mine a few years ago through UK stores for around $120 including the shipping costs.

This is will be a mighty pricey collectors item on the secondary in a few years

I actually wasn't sure on the neck pour but it's got better and better as the fill level has gone down. Super stuff!

But what I DO NOT want is Lagg to turn into Springbank where you need to pay an arm and a leg just to get a dram.

Totally agree with your comparison. I tried a sample of the old 18 a few years back and owned a few 14s. I do miss that 14yr old..
