    I love my Irish red ale I feel if my grandad was still with us he would have enjoyed it . I’ve just got a ph meter ( inspired by you ) made a mess of calibrating it a bit ( video out soon maybe ? ) great looking beer cheers 👍🍻

      Cheers Rick! I had some trouble with calibrating mine at first too! A video on it is a great suggestion, I'll do one ASAP!

    EKG would be a perfect substitute for fuggle!

    Hi Daryl, I keep going to brew a red ale then change my mind and do something else instead. Maybe it's time! The Fuggles thing is interesting. I did an extract best bitter and wanted to elevate it a bit so dry-hopped with Fuggles. It was great to begin with but after a few weeks developed the metalic taste you mentioned. This became very noticeable to the point that I tipped what was left down the sink. I'm not blaming the fuggles entirely but it's an interesting coincidence 🤔

      That's really interesting that you had a similar experience with a bit of a metal taste. I've read that it could be a result of hard water, but I've never noticed it before with any of my other beers.

    Love the channel! Binged a few today 😁 I find your brewing very relatable as I also rely on kveik due to not being able to control fermentation temperature. keep it up!

      Thanks so much for lovely comment! Really means a lot! Kveik really has made brewing so much more accessible.

    Hi Daryl, great content! I use Lutra in most of my brews (Pale Ale, IPA's, Pseudo Lager etc.). Never tried an Irish Red, but love how you went on the journey of re-evaluating the basic brewing. Bought a PH Meter this year as well and learned that no PH calculator ever seems to be right. So adding small bits as you did is the way to go (otherwise you find yourself googling hot to increase the PH)

      Thanks for watching! In my next brew day video (Out in a couple of weeks) I have this exact problem where I accidentally put in too much acid and had to dump all my water! I tried increasing the PH but that made things somehow worse!!!

      @@Kveiksmithdaryl Yup, that's exactly what happened to me. Added some soda and ended up where I was before. Beer was still drinkable but weird mouthfeel and definitely taught me a lesson!

    Hi Daryl,
    What is the spoon/scale thing you use for your water additions? O can't see that on your list? Also, how accurate is It and would you recommend?

    • @Kveiksmithdaryl
      @Kveiksmithdaryl  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a micro scale spoon I found cheap at LIDL! I couldn't confidently say it's super accurate, but it's accurate enough I think! It cost me around £5 so it's been absolutely worth it. I've got no alternative I can suggest to you unfortunately!

    At the end when you set the beer down, you can definitely see that it is red. :-D
    This sounds like a beer I would like to brew. I've just started brewing, my second ever brew is conditioning now. It's be a while before I go all grain. But I'm almost all set up to do it. I have 4 extract kits to brew first. lol

      @@Kveiksmithdaryl I have started with the Northern Brewer starter kit. My first brew was the Block Party Amber and it came out perfect. Everyone loves the beer. My second is the Dead Ringer IPA, a Bell's Two Hearted clone. It won't be ready for a few more weeks. When I checked that fermentation was over I tasted it and it tasted good. I have still to dry hop it though so it will have more hop aroma and flavor. I can hardly wait for it to finish!

    Hi Daryl. Loved the video. What pens do you use to write on your bottles? I have a chalk pen but it's a bit thick.

      Thanks for watching! I use paint pens which are perfect for bottles as the paint grips to the bottles well but is also easy to clean off. There is a link to the exact ones I use in the description
