I see what you're saying. This one had a hex end allowing you to hold the stud with an allen wrench rather than putting vice grips near the boot. Whether it works or not, you got me there. And you're right, if you do that you need to use hand tools and wind through all that rust.

I personally would just replace the old rusted nut for $2 to $5 but that is me...I know when I have done Honda Struts and Sway Bar Links the Service Manual recommends replacing bolts and nuts with new.
