I was just given clippings from my great Grandmothers Rosary Vine. I planted it right to soil, and it's taken. A nice keepsake from our family heirloom :)
I've heard a few people say they really like alot of humidity while they're rooting...can anyone attest to this? Doing it for my 1st time, got a rooted string with tuber. Also, I wanna be like u when I grow up, Nell!😄🌱❤
Hi Nell, Even though you introduce yourself at the beginning of every video, I always think your name is Joy because you are so perky, and Joy would suit you as a name! I was thinking of you today as i was gardening because you inspired me to go and buy a bougainvillea. I loved your video on how to prune them. I am going to aim for the airy look of the one outside your entrance. This video had come at a great time too as we have had a couple of chain of heart issues / disasters. It was great to learn that they can also be propagated in water. Thanks for your fab videos!
Hi Mel - Joy would be a fine name too. Here's something funny: when I lived in NYC years ago, people just didn't get the name Nell & always called me Mel. I just started introducing myself that way because it was easier! I love bougainvilleas & actually need to give that 1 by the entrance another pruning soon. Oh yes, SOH can easily be propagated in water. Nell
I've had my eye out for one of these for a while. Finally found some at mesquite valley growers yesterday! So excited! Thanks for the video. I wish you were my neighbor lol.
WOW! I wish I could've had those cuttings. I'm trying to regrow a few cuttings that was giving to me. Well the problem I'm having it looks too leggie and looks as if it's dieing. Please give any suggestions to help me please. Thank you
That was very interesting to see the 3 ways! I need to get the string of hearts yet. And my string of bananas are growing crazy, I feel guilty throwing them out so I made a spot on the ground and it’s like ground cover! Still doing well in this Tucson heat. And the string of pearls I’m starting over.... my husband said it gets a little overwhelming with all the succulents I have and what I’m going! It’s so fun though! Awesome video, great to see all the different ways! 🦋🌈🌵 thx Monica
Plants can be addicting Monica, that's for sure! There's actually a 4th way explained more in the blog & that's by propagating from the tubers which grow along the stem. In their natural environments, both SOPs & SOBs grow as ground covers. Just don't let your husband step on them!! Nell
Hi Nell, should I wait till my string of hearts has finished flowering before trimming off a couple of inches, or should I just go ahead. Thank you so much for the videos. You've helped me save a few plants.
So I just got the variegated form of this and I want to propagate it immensely do mine is more full and I’m wondering if I can just cut off at each leaf pair and will each pair root?
Very interesting that the cuttings rooted in water were growing better. 🤔 I recently tried the same with epiphyllum cuttings, put some in pots and a few in water. A couple of the water ones have rooted but the potted are not. I'm curious to see how they grow when potted! Thanks for the before and after video!
Hi Diane - I'm sharing what I found to be true. Might be different for someone else, who knows. All the propagated cuttings & those from the tubers are in the garage now. They all seem to be doing better in there. With gardening, the majority is experience & trying things! Nell
I completely agree! There are so many variables in each individuals growing situations. But an an update on my Epiphyllum cuttings that I stuck in water - All have roots! Yay! Water propagation has always been my fave way anyway 😁
I just got on this string of “” chains...pretty competitive! I love these and the turtles, and var hearts. Those full pots are to b envied...how old are those? Did they start out as seeds? I am getting to old to be patient for slowwww growers but I would give the turtles a brake...and break. Thank you! 🐝safe
Do I need to water propragate all of my strings of? @11:08 is that an African Milk plant cactus? I have the same one but can't find the name of it. Wow, what a difference with the tubers. I just have east and west windows. I just got cuttings of SOH and no roots, how do I get them to grow?
+JoyUsGarden Hey Nell, I took a bunch of snake plant leaf cuttings, let them heal over for a day and placed them in water, and the bottom turned yellowy-brown in a day, turned super soft, and smelled gross . The cuttings were also fairly thin, next time should I let them heal over for, say 4 days? If I do it that long, won't it kill the cutting from dehydration? (Sorry for the off-related post!)
Judy Bittle I don't think you can grow roots by putting Sansevieria cuttings in water. They will rot. You can just let the cuttings heal over and plant them in soil.
That's ok Judy. I've let Snake Plant leave heal over for weeks & they've been fine. I always propagate in mix instead of water. Priya is right - putting them in water will cause them to rot out. Nell
Hi Nell im from India .in summer our temperature is almost 40 degree centigrade. Can you suggest me how often i should water my strings of heart?.because i killed 3 of them😭
Hi, as my experience this plant is good indoor in a few hours indirect sunlight like by the mirror window. In the hot weather, you should check soil often, only water it when the soil is completely dry from top to bottom of the pot so it depends. You may water like once or twice a week when the soil is dry and I suggest to use spray for not over watering. And if your plant looks upset, you should move to more shading area for cooling it a little bit then it may be back healthier
Oh my god, you Americans when you spell a name you should spell it in the right way not in your way. And the most of the plants name it came from Latin... so it’s “Ceropegia Woodii” and it spell like (cheropegia vudi) not seropegia woudei like you did
I became plagued with sorrow when you decided to toss all of those clippings
:( hundreds of dollars worth of that beautiful plant.
IKR???
I was just given clippings from my great Grandmothers Rosary Vine. I planted it right to soil, and it's taken. A nice keepsake from our family heirloom :)
I got my initial plant from my grandmother who got hers from her sister my great aunt! I love the memories!
I've heard a few people say they really like alot of humidity while they're rooting...can anyone attest to this? Doing it for my 1st time, got a rooted string with tuber. Also, I wanna be like u when I grow up, Nell!😄🌱❤
thank you for the video, curious why not just lay ends back on top of soil instead of cutting ends off, wouldn't. that make it fuller on top?
Oh nooo!! Do a cuttings giveaway please, we’ll pay for shipping...
Hi Maria - There will be another cuttings giveaway at the end of summer. Stay tuned! Nell
This is a great video! I love the tuber method, and I love that you fast-forwarded to show us the progress--well done!
I wish I would have seen this video back then. I love this plant and would love to have had those cuttings you were not going to keep.
Thanks for the video! It was what I was looking for before cutting my string of hearts.
Omg. So so so lush

Wow I was looking for long time for the string of heart here now they are high price and you compost yours
when you chopped it off.. it hurts! but the new growth is definitely healthy.
I hope I achieve that length for my lovely soh.
It's beautiful, I love my string of hearts and looking out for the variegated one now :)
Yes, mine is coming back beautifully from the tubers. I've seen the variegated 1 at a few nurseries in CA. So pretty tinged with pink. Nell
Hi Nell, should I wait till my string of hearts has finished flowering before trimming off a couple of inches, or should I just go ahead. Thank you so much for the videos. You've helped me save a few plants.
Have you ever propagated them from seeds? I've got one with a couple of seed pods, so I'm wondering whether it's worth the effort to plant them.
So I just got the variegated form of this and I want to propagate it immensely do mine is more full and I’m wondering if I can just cut off at each leaf pair and will each pair root?
Wow, tiene buena mano para las plantas!
Hey, Nell! Do you recommend burying the tubers in the soil or just laying them on top of the soil for propagation?

Great information Nell, thanks so much! 👍
You're welcome Carmen! New growth is appearing every day from the tubers. Nell
Hi, what do you do with the green string bean like seed pods?

Cool plant! Thanks for the video!
It's a fun 1 Keira! This time, it's staying indoors. Nell

Is it bad to have a little worm castings in there while its rooting? You said u had none of that "cuz its rooting." If it's "bad" how come its bad?

Plant them!
Can you please send me a piece of your chain of hearts plant
❤️💓💞💖👍
Hugs! Nell
Do u know anything about donkey tails
I wouldn't say it was the most attractive looking plant, the other string plants look a lot nicer.
I've been on a "string" roll these days Dan. String Of Bananas coming up this week. Nell
why dident u givewaway some. to ue subs.
Give the cuttings away don't throw them 😱
Wasteful. Imagine when you get thrown away in a nursing home.
I have to turn the volume down .
Who the hell is recording this
Ok Ms Crabby Pants (or Mr?)... Is that the worst thing ever? Much better than turning the volume up all the way &you still can't hear!
Boo hoo
