Minecraft: Java Edition (formerly just Minecraft) is the original version of Minecraft, developed by Mojang Studios for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Notch began development on May 10, 2009, publicly releasing Minecraft on May 17, 2009. The full release of the game (version 1.0.0) was on November 18, 2011, at MINECON 2011.
Bedrock Edition (officially subtitle-less; also known as the Bedrock editions, Bedrock versions, or just Bedrock) refers to the multi-platform versions of Minecraft developed by Mojang Studios, Xbox Game Studios, and SkyBox Labs and based on the Bedrock codebase. The latest Bedrock Edition version is 1.18.2.
Although all Bedrock editions are nearly identical, the price[note 1] varies depending on the platform. The Android version costs US$7.49 (£5.41), while the iOS/iPadOS and Fire versions cost US$6.99 (£5.05). The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions cost US$19.99 (£14.45). The Windows version costs US$26.99 (£19.51), and the Nintendo Switch version is the most expensive, costing US$29.99 (£21.68). DLC purchased from the Marketplace on one platform is usable on all other platforms, but the game itself is sold separately on each platform. I think it is stupid how there are different Minecraft versions, everyone should be able to just play Minecraft together. It also means more work for developers, and it makes inequality throughout the whole minecraft community.

And what is the issue with inequality? I prefer to have more versions...so if i don't like one i can play with the other, also mojang sometimes makes that if you buy jave version you get the bedrock one, so they make it so if you payed for mine you can still play in bedrock without getting to pay again... Honestly equality has no value by itself xD, i also cared before about that but it's bullshit, it's bettrer to have diversity than all the same...

Bedrock is actually like a cheap version of Minecraft, although it got some points to be called better than Java, I still prefer the Java Edition.
Igloos has hidden trapdoors in java edition too, but just some of them.
I think that some features are made different in bedrock to make it easier to run in smartphones with low specs.

youre right because java takes up way more ram then bedrock and needs more ram and cpu usage to run smoothly. I can play bedrock on my 4g ram pc and have 60 fps but when i play java its 20 fps on normal settings.
It would also be harder for consoles players to pvp against java players because of the hit cooldowns. Pc players would out match mobile and console players.

For me, I think Bedrock is a bit underleveled as it doesn't support mods and resource packs found in Java.

Man bedrock took the features out of hand
Mojang should consider reprogramming the Java Edition in C++ to reach parity in one or two years but we all know Java Edition is programmed better and has better mechanics and features. I have to admit I'm scared that Java Edition will disappear and be forced to play with shitty mechanics and bugs of Bedrock Edition.
If they port Java to C++ don't you think that Minecraft Java would lose the "Java"? And not to mention you would be rolling back the 1.9 update. The combat on bedrock is garbage. Arguably even worse than Java 1.9 combat system. Sure Java players would get big salmon, and can dye armor via cauldrons but that's about it. Java would dissapear and instead would be replaced with Minecraft bedrock.
The devs said it themselves. Java will not disappear. Not for a long time. In fact, I'm certain they would reach 100% parity before either version becomes a legacy.
