I just watched a clip from earlier in the series and it's so cool to see how the characters are still the same! I could 100% see the young actors saying these things to eachother haha
I hate how Tony acted like Margaret was to blame when he literally cheated first. I dont know if this actually happened between Margaret and Anthony in real life, but either way its frustrating that there are men who are actually like this.
Unfortunately it is actually true. They didn’t have to make up a fake story with this one. The real story was juicy enough. What they didn’t tell you is that the whole family took his side in the fallout. That was till they heard about all his affairs that started back when he and Margaret became engaged
Both actually cheated, with Tony probably being the first since he never changed. At the same time, Margaret always wanted it to be about her and insulted his work and space. Between the two though, Tony was surprisingly the more doting parent, who loved and cherish his children and spent time with them, it's no surprised that both pursued an artistic career like him.
It's not pure fiction. They did fight a lot, he did leave those nasty notes in the pages of the books she read, and that boy is a real person she was having an affair with.
The note that said “You look like a Jewish Manicurist.” That was actually true because in real life, Tony really did leave notes like that to Princess Margaret and one of such states that quote. Which goes to show how problematic their marriage was. 😢 Edit: The full quote in real life was actually - “You look like a jewish manicurist, AND I HATE YOU.”
Nah, if she had married Peter she would eventually get bored of him or start bullying him to get a reaction and bring some 'excitement' into their marriage. If she was really about all that she would have given up her line in the throne to be with him. Ultimately, her issues were personal and she mistakenly thought a man could fix it. In her mind that man was Peter. When the only person who had the power to do that was herself.
Margaret had her own reasons for hating Sir Alan "Tommy" Lascelles, but perhaps she even regretted at the time that he retired and didn't prevent her from marrying this photographer.
The fact affairs in the royal family have become such a big thing last 100 years or so where not that long ago royalty and nobility having mistresses was not only acceptable but almost expected
Not all the royals in history were that way. Most of them were but not all. Times change but I am sure that most of those royal wives didn’t want their husbands having those affairs
@@cherrytraveller5915 not always marriages were often loveless between royals and nobles at that time many royal and noble women had their own affairs they just couldn't be as open about it
I remember watching a video on the DNA results of King Richard III's bones, and what they found were many instances where illegitimate births would have occurred all throughout his lineage lol it was quite funny to me
Even though he was right about Margaret not knowing who she was and having issues with the complexities of being born into royalty etc. He was a predatory parasite, insecure with a host of complex issues and insanely jealous of her and the monarchy. He set out to kill her in every possible way except for getting actual blood on his hands.
And not to mention that he slept with another woman when he was still engaged with Princess Margaret. 🙂 Edit: She got that woman pregnant and ironically, she gave birth to their love child during Tony & Princess Margaret’s honeymoon.
I hate how commoners marry into families like these and pretend that they did not know that their duty would be to be in second, place, walk two steps behind, and proceed to live a life of security and luxury as a result.
You do know that if they didn’t marry commoners the RF would no longer exist. Also no amount of preparation can prepare you for the invasion into your private life or how on show you are. There is no guide book that exists that explains what you take on when you marry a royal. I find it sad that people like you think that someone will instantly know what to do when they take on a role like that. Be thankful you have a normal boring life that allows you to judge someone you don’t know
Even people born into royal family struggle with marrying a fellow royal and they have learned all the ropes from birth. Look how much Marie Antoinette struggled. Look at Empress Elizabeth of Austria and her mental issues. And these were both born into royal families and were as far from common as you can get
Margaret and Tony had their share of heated spats (or rows, as they would have called them), but this isn’t how the Margaret/Roddy affair ended. It was a lot more anti-climactic; he sent her a note, informing her that he was going to marry someone else
He has a point though. Even I, a commoner, if I had a lover outside my marriage, wouldn't bring him home while still being married, no matter how bad things between me and my husband might be. I would just go to my lover's place or to a hotel / airbnb whatever, but she had plenty of other places at her disposal to conduct her affair.
Hard to say, considering he never hid it and even had a child out of wedlock. Hard to claim whats the proper way to do things when he was the one who ruined the whole marriage and stayed far away
tbh this wouldve been the end with peter townsend too. margaret was too unstable and selfish. she kept blaming elizabeth but no she was the one in a complex and envious to the point of ruining her life instead of finding ways she could live more meaningfully for her own sake and that of her family and position.
That younger guy was thinking, "What have I gotten myself into? These people are nuts!"
😂yup, I said the same thing!
They take their insults to each other to a whole new level.
“Hoppity hop, Hoppity hop, overlooked by his Mother!” 💀💀💀💀

As much as I love Helena Bonham Carter, Vanessa Kirby's deep sultry voice would've cut deeper with the dialogue.
That hoppiety hop was crazy.

As crianças eram mais próximas do pai do que da mãe.
@@cherrytraveller5915why did they took his side
Well Margaret was no walk in the park either. And she rushed into a marriage with an unstable guy. So it’s kind of 50-50.
Even if it’s pure fiction, I love this show and this scene.
These fights happened and the notes lying around happened as well. Their marriage was… problematic to say the least.

Although I'm not Jewish, I'm curious about why it would be an insult to look like a Jewish manicurist.
Their marriage wasn’t problematic! 🙄 Can we stop with that damn word?! Just call it for what it was! Their marriage was TOXIC!
@@maryk446It was just a way of saying she looked a bit dowdy, frumpy, old, chubby - it was an insult to her physical appearance.
It is odd since he was part Jewish himself. Self loathing, I suppose?

If Princess Margaret had ended up with Peter Townsend, no doubt she would be happier. But I really wonder if she really loved Tony Armstrong.
I doubt that Peter would have made her happy either, she would have got bored with him.
She only married Tony just to get even with Peter’s engagement with another woman.

@@sarahhardcastle2433we will never know that as she never got the chance.
They did become friendly in later years. But IMHO they never should have married each other.
Wasn't he carrying on a full-fledged affair the entire time?
Multiple affairs
Don’t forget love child too
Yes.....that man was cheating on her with other men and women.....even had a child
Oh but it's different cause she's female, of course 😑

Amazing how they found an actor that looks and sounds like an older Matthew Goode.
That guy magically disappeared.
I have to say that the acting in this series is phenomenal. That said, the historical inaccuracies are unfortunate!!

The affairs disgust me.
We're these royals originally raised in a barn? They don't know right from wrong, imo

Damn, he left pretty easily. 😬
If it makes anyone feel better, in real life Margaret was with Roddy for eight years. Not just a tryst like they portray it on the show.
Is this the husband who had a baby outside the marriage?
There was more than one. Anne husband had a baby out of marriage. Anthony got a woman pregnant just after he became engaged to Margaret
yup
And not to mention that he slept with another woman when he was still engaged with Princess Margaret. 🙂

No I think that was his second marriage.
Yes, and it was with his best friend’s wife.

Roddy in the show got one good look at what he’s gotten himself into and was OUT of there 😅
He had the nerve to say his house. He would b living there if it wasn't for her
Sort of Burton vs Taylor in Who is Afraid of Virginia Wolfe
I think that every time I watch this scene. I feel like that must have been intentional
This scene has "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" vibes so its ironic that Bonham Carter also played Elizabeth Taylor

This was 80s to 90s. None of that stuff then.
The actor playing Roddy, looks just like Matthew Goode the actor who played Anthony Armstrong-Jones in Season 2 of The Crown.
With the way she acted nobody ended up wanting her everyone she was with had happy lives after her
Cri du Coeur.... "du" is much expressive for meaning "from" the heart....

WHY WE IN THE US AND ENGLAND LOVE HBC
Every game has its limits.
This is what seasons 5 and now 6 are missing nuance and true conflict
I suspect Windsors threatened the production team.
Yes, indeed, there are at least 3 episodes missing that I haven't seen as well. USA. ❤
What a miserable existence.
Shame, and eternal shame, nothing but shame! The House of Windsor? Never a king on a horse in battle.
Ouch. Imagine all those other cast off cousins and second cousins living in that rabbit warren of a complex listening in 😬
Does anyone know the music playing as she pulls up in the car ?
This show opened my eyes to how terribly things turned out for princess Margaret.
Hardly violent
Tony murdered Margaret for the crown
I would hardly call this "violent." Intense, yes, but not violent.
What a coward

Where are the 157 people always standing around in tuxedos in every scene? They play this one in an empty house of this size?
