Oh great. A suspension upgrade I was not aware of while I am already over budget gathering suspension parts for my R53. I’m in! 🙂

Hi, I'm new to Mini, do you think the r53 is better than the r56? For a pleasure car

Tough question! If it’s your daily driver then you probably just want to find one in good condition with low mileage. There is lots of debate about that question.

Thanks Phil, - I did mine at the end of last year and I was going to get the bathroom scales out and compare both complete axles for weight, but never got round to it, so handy to know that it is in the region of 5kg. Have you got the conical washer you need to refit the R53 shock absorbers? You will need them.

Yes! I got a “kit” from a place called ALLMAG out of the US. Came with the washers.

So the geometry is identical, is just that they are lighter on the R56?

Except the bottom shock mount. Check my other video for details but the R56 is conical and the R53 is flat.

@@RegardingAutomobiles The question was in regards to camber curves and toe curves, whether the trailing arm brings any changes to those. From what I could find, it seems that there is a change only when upgrading from a pre '03 trailing arm to the R56 one, but on the '04-'06 there shouldn't be any other changes besides the reduced weight. Thanks.
