- 11Alive Investigates talked with 10 other people from across the country who signed contracts with BSI and have been met with strife.
Beauty Supply Institute, known as BSI, has books, videos, and conferences to market its start-to-finish service. Entrepreneurs sign service contracts to pay for BSI’s industry know-how, agreeing to let the company control the process. Depending on the package purchased, BSI’s service includes training on how to run the store and then a team to set up the shelving and supplied products.
After calling, sending an email and visiting each of BSI’s metro Atlanta locations, the company founder, Devin Robinson, agreed to speak with 11Alive Investigator Rebecca Lindstrom.
“It is not all on us, and none of it is a nefarious act like it's, it's business,” Robinson said.

Somebody at BSI needs to be held accountable. Everyone affected needs every single cent spent on them back AND extra for all the extensive damages.
This is terrible. BSI needs to make this right or face legal action because what they are doing to these people is absolutely criminal. Crushing for entire families. It's devastating and honestly trifling.

Disappointing, I've paid $10,000 working with BSI. Now I'm questioning if I should take the loss and move on after hearing this terrible news.

I’m extremely disappointed! Beauty Supply Institute is a complete scam. Poor business practices. I’m a victim of this corrupt company and I would like to tell my story. I’m currently fighting to get my funds back. I have all of the emails and paperwork. Devin Robinson and his staff need to be held accountable.

They get their shelving from uline and are not backed up. We’ve purchased shelving supplies directly from uline and will get them in a day. These folks(BSI)are lying.

I wish I could get with every single one of those people and give them the guidance they need to open their stores on their own. So sad that they’ve given so much with so little in return
I hope everyone can get their money back or at least some of it. If there is a group lawsuit, everyone affected needs to stick together to get justice. BSI needs to be held accountable, especially Professor Devon, he should know better.

Blacks create.your own institutes fly down to the manufacturer yourself and begin to create your own manufacturing of these products..
You would think that people putting five figures into their startups would do this kind of obvious groundwork-people want it easy instead of hands-on trial and error.
Its not that simple. Asians particularly Korens have a monopoly on the industry. They won't sell to Blacks at all or unless you're buying each product in bulk, much more than the average shop would need. The whole purpose of joining this group was to get access to the manufacturers that made the products. He was supposed to be a middle man and purchase through his accounts and supply the products he has access to to all his stores until the individual beauty supplies could create their own accounts with the manufacturers.
This man has supposedly been doing this for 20 years and has his own beauty supply stores.

My name is Nathalie Meme. I'm also a victim of bsi. I purchased the full implementation package. I gave them $75,000 in total. I signed the lease since 2021. My credit is messed up . I'm bankrupt because of BSI. I was paying rent of $2500 for an empty space. I did remodeling, and I spent so much money. Devin Robinson need to be in jail so he can't steal anyone else money anymore. I went through so much pain and suffering.
I have also been scammed by BSI. I signed up in 2022. I paid 15k on a 35k full implementation package and have not received any services promised. To see that there are other people out here that has lost way more is heart breaking. Hopefully, there will be a class action lawsuit against this company.
