My sone will be 6 years old this week. Last month went to the ER to see why he was having meltdowns. He was constipated and was prescribed miralax for 7 days. He also has heart burn and was prescribed medicine. He was fine after the ER until now. Last few days he’s been complaining. Today he had a meltdown for two hours. We gave him his heartburn medicine and tylenol, which usually helps but not this time. We noticed he hasn’t been drinking much fluids since these issues started occurring last month. We tried to get a referral for a GI specialist but have been waiting a few weeks. What calmed him down today was that I got really desperate and was going to give him a dose of miralax but his mom thought that maybe we should ask the doctor tomorrow. So still desperate, I just gave him 100mL of water through a 20mL syringe five times. He actually drank it,and was calm most of the night with minor complaints. So I guess in the mean time, I am buying a 150mL syringe and going to give him water every 30min of his waking hours so he can meet the water requirements. He won’t drink water out of a cup or anything. He has been interested in water bottles so we might experiment with that. He already takes magnesium and probiotics. I am thinking of getting finer gummies. My son is still in diapers.

My son has this problem since infancy. Now he is 10 years old. Physical activity is the only thing that helps him - not only for bovel movements, but also for mental relaxation. Medication, food doesn't work for him at all, because problem is mental only.

That’s definitely a big piece of this puzzle - figuring out all the triggers. He’s lucky to have you as him mom!

Nothing but a Fleet enema helped my son. He got less irritable but still very fussy.

thanks for this! as an autistic person i’ve been having stomach issues lately, and i was concerned about it being covid because i had other symptoms, but i tested negative, so i really wanted to ease the issues a bit. this did sort of help.

Any ideas to get a 13 year old to cooperate with medicines? When he gets constipated he will refuse his medication and lie about pooping. I can always tell because he is irritable, argumentative, and prone to meltdowns. When he gets like this he thinks I'm the problem because I'm asking him to take his medicine and not believing him about pooping. I'm going to try showing him part of your video and we have an appointment with his GI tomorrow. I'm looking for resources to help him understand the connection between his constipation and mood.

Thank you for these great tips. My daughter is 14 and non verbal for the most part. I normally run to the bathroom to ck on how she’s moving before she flushes.

I am so thankful for your videos. It’s providing so much insight. Currently my 14 year old is either constituted or holding his bowels. The only time he does the #2 is when he’s in the shower or in a pool. I can’t figure out what is causing this. Do you have any info you can share? Please.

My son is 16 (autistic and has gone back and forth with constipation over the years) and still holds in and has "skid" accidents. It is so frustrating. He doesn't load the pants but it is still an issue at home and school and we go through so much underwear because he throws them away at school. Would the best time to give him magnesium be at night so we can get him to go to the bathroom first thing in the morning before he goes to school? I have tried during the day, but I don't have access to him throughout the day and I really want him to nip this habit! I don't feel the school support is helping with this problem very well.

Hello and thank you so much for the wonderful information! I was wondering if you could include the link for the magnesium glycinate? I tried looking for it in the description box but couldn’t find it. There are so many options on Amazon, I just wanted to research your suggestion as well.

Thanks for asking! us.fullscript.com/protocols/joya-autism-essentials is my comprehensive list. It’s long, and I’m not suggesting someone give their child all of these. These are just products I use, like, trust and I know are high quality.

Awesome information thanks for sharing! I was wondering if you have any tips for myself to help my 7 year old do bowel movements on the toilet? He urinates just fine, tho for years he won't go bowel movements. We have tried everything, talked many times with his Dr etc and nothing unfortunately. He does a pull-up for that & if we don't use them he'll hold it for days or week then have a accident. Thanks in advance for any advice 🤗

Try some of the things I talk about here....it can take time and patience (which many of us might be a bit short on, depending on the day/moment). But your perseverance will pay off.

Would any of these be a good swap for Miralax?

    • @yourautismgameplan1637
      @yourautismgameplan1637  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes. Miralax is fine for emergencies, but I really prefer something less chemical, like I talk about here.

@@yourautismgameplan1637 Thank you! We have been on it long term and I have been wanting to transition, just unsure of how or what as the doctor isn’t much help. I will rewatch and see what we could try. Thanks for your reply!

My son is 7 now level 3 on spectrum coupled with restrictive avoidant food intake disorder has been on miralax since about 4 years old, started experimenting with kefir as he wanted to try it thinking it was strawberry milk. notice his stools stopped being as hard to pass with 30ml a day. definitely recommend probiotics and fiber and multivitamins. And prayers to anyone dealing these issues of constipation certainly stressful keep trying new things and documenting results. Ill be trying some things from this vids as i feel the same about miralax.

I have the same issue with my 4 year old shes on the autism spectrum shes having a hard time doing a number 2 she screams in pain trying to get it out lactulose is not helping also she is a very picky eater which is not helping i dont know what to do its so fristrating as. Shes been poooing liquid but no hard stools yet pls advice would be appriciated

@@yasmeenlorenzo-tl4ne when it gets to that point we will do an enema or suppository. Basically the poop is hard and too big to pass but liquid will squeeze around. Certainly feel and understand the stress. Unfortunately I don't have any break through advice that post was about two years ago. Currently 9 years old still wearing pullups to school. We do lactulose daily also. Ensure and liquid probiotic Maryruth. I spread them out throughout the day. He still refuses to eat regular food. Super limited diet of popcorn, Cheetos, and Pringles maybe some yogurts occasionally and ensure for some reason, but only strawberry, and can't be off brand. I tried putting the cheaper kind in ensure bottle and he didn't touch another for a month. If you're insurance will cover it you can get ultrasound and they can see just how backed up she is. We spent two days in hospital doing laxative flush basically miralax and IV drip non stop. Nice bill of $5k smh. Keep bothering the pediatrician or find a new one, keep going to food therapy and trying new food, find a gastrointestinal specialist, and don't give up.

Getting other things in place might negate the need for a medication. Hope you found the video helpful! My course has tons more info that’s easily applied at home!
