Might be some increase due to all the lead that used to be in petrol.... No wonder us millennials are weird, and now we have all this mess. And our kids inherited old toys, cause "we want it clean". Yeah, that toy was painted 60 years ago. Internal thought: "Let me give these toys to my kid cause I used them, and it's cute to have generational fun!" Well, please do NOT. Some toys my family had (I'm the last born) are passed down through generations. I passed along a small stuffed animal my mom made to my niece, but that one was cleaned and checked, and she loves her cat stuffed animal. She named it Puss. I named it after my old childhood cat, Gråpus, meaning Grey Cat or Grey Pus. Pus is the norwegian word for cat, pronounced:puUUewEhUS or something.

I read an article about treating autism with lithium, but the study was done on mice (not humans). And although it was shown to improve social interaction between mice (by decreasing social anxiety), I think that it is problematic to assume that this will cause parents to assume that if their children take lithium, that they will suddenly change the way that they think (that they will stop carrying out literal thinking, suddenly be able to distinguish the difference between when somebody is being sarcastic (or if they are being serious), or being able to read between the lines when somebody gives what is autists consider "a vague, one-sentence answer to a question, or that it will just cure all of the underlying disorders that make up autism (like OCD, ADHD, sensory sensitivities, dyslexia, and any other disorders that are commonly found with autism). This is problematic because, parents and society will assume that all of these different traits will disappear, and will leave people frustrated when autistic individuals still can't handle certain things (like sudden changes in routine, or getting burned out a lot easier than neurotypical, or just still not being able to understand what neurotypical people mean when they say or do various things, even if we become better at reading facial expressions. It's all of the technical and literal thinking patterns that cause autistic people to think about things differently, that I don't think can be reversed. To me, it's like trying to get a neurotypical person to suddenly think like an autistic person. No matter how much I explain why I can't handle certain things, or why I interpret things differently, I find that most neurotypical people will hear the first two sentences, assume that I must be meaning the same thing as THEY would mean if they said such things, and then not really listen to the other 10 or 15 minutes of the explanation (because their assumptions have biased their entire perception of what I am saying, and therefore think, "Oh, I get what Megan's saying, I don't really need to know the rest of her explanation; she's also saying this or that thing, but she probably just means this or that." And this becomes more evident when I am having to explain things 5 or more times (and then still continue to ask me why I can't handle this or that). This just shows me how different our perceptions are of the world when we look at the same situation, or hear the same phrases. But on top of all of this, there articles that state that autistic people are problematic, just because we think differently (and because people don't understand us). We could be completely immersed in our work and be doing a great job, but a lot of our quality work doesn't matter if we aren't being social and mingling with our other coworkers. But society has somehow decided that this is a problem, and will tell autistic people that they aren't a "good fit" in a workplace, even if they aren't fighting with anybody. Things like that need to stop being a stigma. I can understand if a parent wants their child to stop being non-verbal, but I wouldn't want to see a parent get frustrated with their child when they simply can't interpret social situations differently (all that does is damage a child's self-esteem). It's like going up to a neurotypical person and telling them, "Okay, now I want you to think opposite of everything that you perceive or believe to be true when I snap my fingers". Literally though. Autistic people are often happy with the way that they think, but just wish that they would be accepted, and that workplaces would be more mindful by not adding on more work tasks over the months (and years), when it often takes an autistic person a couple of months just to try and figure out how to get the original list of tasks done on time; or, letting them take a break after 3 hours, and not making them feel bad about it (because"so-and-so went 5 hours before taking a break, so I should too (and then not understanding why I am slowing down from a lack of energy, and then totally crash after). I can actually last longer and get more done (work faster and get more done) in my workday if given a 15-20 minute break every 2 hours, but society doesn't believe in that (not in the retail or restaurant industry anyways).

I, mid-30s, have autism and have toe-walked since a child (it's not super pronounced now but I still barely hit my heel as I walk and someone informed me that most humans strike their heel first then shift weight onto the ball of their foot/toes). I walk with a bounce like Bamby from the cartoon. I was also very sporty and still am. I was an exception sprinter throughout primary and high-school dominating my peers and making it to regionals, and even as an adult, my ability to sprint is very good for my age-group. I am certainly more suited to sprinting than slow long-distance running. In terms of flat feet (I have them too), keep in mind that the current world record holder and fastest man alive (Usain Bolt) has flat feet! Coincidence? Perhaps... But it's not something to get bothered by. Your kid will still be able to destroy opponents (speed-wise) and also in other avenues. Don't stress, and also don't make life difficult for them. If your child does this and your other children or other kids make fun of them, stop it ASAP! Put them in check! (A) Bullying is not cool; (B) This is not a major issue for everyone afflicted. Finally, from an evolutionary perspective, if there was no benefit to this deviation of gait from what is considered the "norm", it would not have persisted over millennia. There is an evolutionary advantage! Figure it out ;) An old football/soccer coach once said to us lads, "stay on your toes!"... We are ready for action!

However he is probably bloated some having almost uncontrollable OCDs and property destruction. He takes 1/8 tsp of inulin, could it be at the root of his behaviors?
