  • Warburton Redwood Forest, Victoria, Australia - A Day Trip From Melbourne
    About one and half hours drive from Melbourne is the Warburton Redwood Forest at Cement Creek. It is one of two Redwood, or Sequoia, Forests in Australia. Both are within 3 hours drive of Melbourne however this one is the closest. This plantation of redwoods is to the east of Melbourne in the beautiful Yarra Ranges - the source of the Yarra River - and just a few kilometres outside of the lovely little town of Warburton.
    The redwood forest is an easy day trip from Melbourne. Families will love running between the giant trees and checking out the huge bird nests. Apparently it has become a thing to twist branches into giant nests. There couldn't really be birds here this size could there? :)
    Mount Donna Buang isn't far away and is the closest snow play area to Melbourne.

    I was just reading about redwoods being planted in Australia in the 30s. I did a YT search to see if someone had a video. Makes me happy to see them thriving. 🇺🇸🤝🇦🇺

      There is another grove of redwoods on the west side of Melbourne too. Near Beech Forest in the Otways - past Lorne coming from Geelong or Melbourne. It is really good too. I made a video about that as well but I haven't edited it yet. 😀
      Thanks for watching!

    Shane, this is awesome. Another great vlog buddy. They are amazing trees. We got to see them in California and now we have our own little bit of California in Victoria. Inspired me to take a trip to Warburton. Thank you for sharing and love your editing.

      Thank you!!! We went to the other grove of California Redwoods over in the Otways near Beech Forest a few weeks ago. Very nice there too. Beautiful spot. It is only a couple of kilometres from Hopetoun Falls so well worth the visit as well.

    This is excellent stuff Shane, yes, of course the look of the video is great as always, and it really is, really like the style of your vids, but being the immature kids that we are, loving how much focus is spent on ‘mummy having a pee…or is that a poo?’ 😂💩….oh, don’t forget the poo food 💩💩💩. I was going to mention Blair Witch but you got in there before me. Seriously though, it’s so good, you have great shots and a really cool editing style. Think we might have to go and film a video in the woods now!! Love that hollow tree too, and yeah, watch out for those dinosaurs. Also love that your kids look like their having a bloody great time, kids should be out playing in woods, paddling in water and being kids, it’s good to see. We have a really busy few weeks ahead of us, with work and then a holiday, but once we get all that out of the way, we’re gonna binge watch your vids from the beginning. Rach (the scary bird sat next to me now 😂) started watching your Japan ones a few before me, so I have some of those to catch up on too. Really did love that video Shane, top work sir!!! 🍻

      Firstly. Thank you!
      Secondly. Thank you!
      Back then we were going out every other weekend. It was pretty cool, although it wasn't all smiles and poo jokes - but that didn't make the final cut 😂 Since the pandemic we've barely gone anywhere. Except in between the lockdowns we did manage to get in a few road trips - most recently Easter this year - which hopefully I can edit as soon as I've finished the Japan vids. I reckon somewhere between 3 and 5 episodes left.
      If you really want to put yourself through watching some old stuff, I really started doing this sort of thing with the Day out In Melbourne video (th-cam.com/video/ZWLoyrykaf4/w-d-xo.html). Before then I had few bits and pieces that were going to be the start of something but I never got around to doing much. I've got hundreds of hours of some reasonably interesting travels that I've never edited. I was pretty clueless then. But the East Africa, Peru, Bolivia, and Tonga Whaleswim ones aren't bad - a bit long though 😂 I used copyrighted music on the those and apparently some of them a blocked in certain localities so they might not even be available. Interestingly the East Africa and the Tonga vids are my most viewed - around 50 - 70k each. The East Africa one went semi-viral a year or two ago and I got around 300 subs and 50k views out of it. Which was strange because it had been there for around 10 years. TH-cam can be funny sometimes. Then again, it never ceases to amaze me what some people will watch. 😂😂

    Seems as though you all had some good fun exploring the enchanted and spooky redwood forest. Did you end up encountering any dinosaurs?

    • @ShaneNixonFamily
      @ShaneNixonFamily  ปีที่แล้ว

      Only that creepy one that kept attacking me 😂 Fascinating that we have a couple of small Redwood plantations. Since that time we went to the other one on the other side of Melbourne. It is pretty good too. I haven't edited that video yet. These trees aren't old enough to very big yet but eventually I expect they'll be huge. We do have some big gum trees here as well - mountain ash (it is a eucalypt) that are second only to the Redwoods in height, but I think many of the truly huge trees (redwood sized) were cut down 100 years ago.

    Hey Shane! Beautiful shots of the Redwood Forest in Warburton! We kinda just went into the forest and back out again.. never did any of the trails cos our boys won't walk anywhere unless there's a promise of ice cream or some kind of playground at the end destination. How cute is the town though? Did you go see Boinga Bob's treehouse?

    • @ShaneNixonFamily
      @ShaneNixonFamily  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you!!! I was recorded this just before you did your Redwood Forest video and then you mentioned Blair Witch so i thought I'd better put mine away for a year or two before making that joke again :) Back when we did this we had to do the ol' yes we'll stop at Maccas on the way home thing... plus there was a promise of snow... and there was no snow. Now you have me intrigued by Boinga Bob's treehouse? Totally missed it. Now I will have to go back :)

    Nice video brother! What gear did you use?

    • @ShaneNixonFamily
      @ShaneNixonFamily  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Humayun Awan!! Back then I was using a Panasonic GH4. Great little cameras and very cheap second hand. Mine was second hand. Now I use the Panasonic GH5. The image stabilisation is so much better. I haven't posted any videos from the GH5 yet though. The last 15 or so videos on my channel are all from the GH4. The next 10 or so I have in the works were also shot on the GH4.

    • @humayunawan1057

      @@ShaneNixonFamily No worries!! Thanks for your reply. What lens are you using? Because the video quality is top notch.

    • @ShaneNixonFamily
      @ShaneNixonFamily  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The lens I've used on both the GH4 and the GH5 is the Panasonic Lumix WP 12-35mm F2.8 II. It has its own internal optical stabilisation. It made the GH4 better but on the GH5 it works with the camera's own OIS to make it extremely steady. It is a pretty sharp lens too. Quite light. 12-35 is 24-70 in full frame equivalent. I wouldn't mind a couple of prime lenses - f1.7 or f1.4 - they'd be better in low light. But as an all rounder the Lumis lens is very good.

      @@ShaneNixonFamily Thank you so much for the information brother. I'm planning on buying a camera for these trips and all but was always confused on camera and lenses.

    • @ShaneNixonFamily
      @ShaneNixonFamily  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No problem. Just buy the best you can afford. Many people get by with just a mobile phone. Micro Four Thirds cameras like my Pansonics or Fuji are more affordable. And lighter. Sony, Canon, Nikon all make great full frame camera but they are more expensive and heavier. Almost every camera compromises on something but whatever you get once you familiarise your self with it you will be able to get best out of it you can. Have fun and good luck!
