Is The Voyage North an actual Guild? Do you have to join them if you use their services to get too Bico?
@MidOhioPinball great question! Tvn is basically the travel package company. There are 4 quilds under the TVN umbrella. Ordo Cervi, Ordo Millitum, Nova Vitae and my guild The Marchwardens. I'm pretty sure you have to be a part of the travel package in order to be a part of the guilds officially. I am General of the Marchwardens and we had about 3 different people who randomly joined us for battle and then started hanging out with all the Marchwardens for the rest of the week!
My dad fought in this battle. My mom never got over his death. We miss him everyday. 😢
He fought very bravely. And was hailed during the party after the battles! Lol great comment!
The sheer scale of this is so impressive!
It is an amazing experience to be there in person! I have gone 3 times now and it get better each year!
This is nothing. You should see some of the 50 vs 50 or 100 vs 100 battles they do with metal weapons and not nerf toys. That is entertaining.

lol figures it'd be the roman legionaries who breach the wall. I saw that wall of shields early on and immediately knew what was gonna happen.
They are an awesome guild and a great force on battlefield! It's so much fun!
You can see how some battle hardened warriors would of had a field day in some ancient battles watching this.
Especially with how well armored some knights were. It would take so much to kill a big group of fully armored well trained soldiers!
Their defense was so poorly planned and organized 😂 1st line should have been shields up in the gaps Second line should have been spears and pikes. Archers should have been grouped togather firing as one over the wall to cover more area. Everyone else should have been on the flanks and a 3rd line of support behind the spears/ pikes.
@markhennessy7598 you don't have a clue what you are talking about when it comes to Bicolline battles. We are a small guild tasked with defending the far right door. We had all the shields we had in front. We had our spears and our halberds behind our shields. We had our archers behind that and our skirmishers were helping where they could. You have no idea what the other two thousand people are doing. It would be completely unsafe and against the rules to volley or lob arrows over the wall. We are not a bunch a trained medieval soldiers we are people on vacation having fun doing a hobby. I would love to see you organize a bunch of people in two days to do what you are expecting out of this event. Yeah it's fantasy battle but get real bud or please come show us how it's done!

This looks like 90'ies LARP in europe to me... if you want to see really cool LARP costumes and fights, search for EPIC EMPIRES 2022 or EPIC EMPIRES 2023... its one of the best LARPs in my opinion... with great costumes and really immersive... these Canadian or American LARPs are always like a big mix of everything, no great costume-line, just a bunch of individiual questionable costumes... and these safety googles really turn me down.

This is not really my thing, but I appreciate it. I see a lot of comments giving tactics and strategy, and it's a bit ridiculous. These guys are just having fun, leaving them be. My one issue though with this and all hobbies similar is morale. The majority of casualties happened when lines broke and people ran in fear. That's how battles were won, not two armies running into each other until one side completely dies. Unfortunately, you can't really replicate that unless your life is really on the line. You're not gonna see for example, a left flank collapsing and hundreds running in fear. Then, it causing the rest of the army to be hit in the flank. Leading to more fleeing and a complete route. In the end though these guys are having a good time and that's all that matters.

I really like the difference between European and American LARP. Here in Czechia, even when it's a fantasy game, almost every larger event has some limits and regulations on how to dress, to keep the immersion. Anything modern looking won't pass, no plastic helmets or shields, all has to be at least partially ihstorically accurate. People generally look up actual medieval clothing for reference. It's taken relatively seriously. And here it's just a lot of random stuff, steampunk, medieval, basically a mash of random stuff. And it looks like a blast!

I guess if you want to think that way but this is really over 200 guilds coming together to fight together. I think of it as a lot of different allied armies fighting together just on a smaller scale.

I recognized the The Ultimate LARPing Experience guy at the start of the video, I am here watching this because I stumbled across his video. I have never been interested in LARPing before, and it is not really something that is prevalent in my country, but it looks like a hell of a lot of fun.

@coolichka42 that's awesome! So a great first timer option is a company called The Voyage North. They can be a bit expensive but they help with almost all of the logistics. You just get yourself and your stuff to Montreal airport and they bus you to and from the even which is 2.5 hours out of Montreal. They give you a food plan for amazing breakfast and Dinner. They will also provide medieval style tents and cots to sleep on. But the best part is they have a great community to answer questions and find friends in! If you go through them let them know I sent you!

Lol I wouldn't nock larp until you have tried bicolline larp! It's amazing. I used to think I could never get into it but I'm 4 years in now lol
@TallianAdventures I did reenactment at Neustadt-Glewe (~300 fighters) and Larp at Mythodea (PVE back then only 6k) & Drachenfest(PVP with 3k). Reenactment has the better fights and the better looking camps, Larp has the bigger fights and the more atmospheric camps. Was a good time ^^

Right!!! I discovered Bicolline about 8 years ago and wish i had discovered it much sooner!! It took me a few years to be able to afford it but i finallly took that leap and never turned back!! If you want to know a few resources to help with the logistics of a trip like this dont hesitate to ask!!
Everytime I see something like this, I remember SM Stirling's Dies The Fire/Emberverse book series, and how all these SCA fanatics and RenFaire larpers suddenly had to use their skills & gear for real. It adds a different complexion to this event.

Exactly one of the reasons I wanted to make these videos!! To bring more people to this amazing event! It's a week long event called The Grand Battle of Bicolline! It is over 350 acres of land in Quebec Canada just a couple hours north east of Montreal. It is the best week of my life every year I go and I have gone 3 years so far lol!

Great question and thanks for watching! I was the same as you when I first saw bicolline videos on TH-cam! I had heard of larping but this was on a realistic level from the battles to the towns. So as you enter the battlefield your side is given either a blue or yellow ribbon that you tie onto your arm to show what side you are with.

Thank you!!! This is a pretty unique Larp. It's basically a mix between a larp, a week long camping trip, a music festival and a ton of other stuff lol! I'm curious what brand of weapons you have? Most brands will pass safety checks at bicolline. If you have more specific questions I would love to answer if I am able to! I can give you tips on how to go to bico as well if you are interested!

I was exactly like you when I first saw a TH-cam video about Bicolline! I can give you some tips on how I go to Bicolline if you are interested. I think Bicolline is one of the best places to do larping for your first time. you can sit back and watch or partake in really deep role play and everywhere inbetween!
This looks like it would be so fun if it was done properly with actual formations and stuff

It was soo much more fun than I had ever imagined! I had always dreamed about medieval combat and this really helped bring that to life!
Is the event primarily in French or in English? I did French immersion in Ontario from high school through university, but after graduating a few years ago I lost quite a bit. I heard some guilds are exclusively Anglophone and some are exclusively Francophone. Do you know which guilds are which?
I would say that the majority of guilds are Francophone but 95% of people speak english. There are a lot more Anglophone guilds that are popping up also! Im sure a lot of your french would come back to you! Its a full week of hearing french lol!

In last battle, You most order your people to stand back and form the shield men to the front and the spear and the sword men support to the back to defend the archer and the archer will fire for the enemy
I wish i could! I wasnt in any sort of leadership position. Im hoping to be in a leadership position next year though.

I think they should do away with the long jouster poles. not as appealing or fun battle dynamic.
Those are supposed to be spears lol. They do have some really nice professionally made ones that look amazing. I wish everyone had them but they are really expensive. They do let some really terrible looking ones onto the field though and it would be nice if everyone could afford the nice ones

The mistake they did was that they stood there in a mess while the enemy comparatively more working together easily flanked them. They focused on the main gate seeing that there are less enemies coming from front which easily means the others are either flanking or coming from the back. The enemy side did a good by coming together and crushing them. If they kept equal proportion of troops from all directions it would be more safe to handle. I know they did this for fun but I like to discuss and analyse military tactics that's why i wrote this nothing serious
I appreciate it! A few things that might be good to know! In this battle we were fairly outnumbered. We were defending the very far right of the fort. My guild was given the far right probably because we are fairly small and only have a couple tower shields!

This fort defending and attacking seems to be very tactical and intense. Not that the others aren't. But in this situation, your defensive line breaking is a lot more obvious with the walls, imo. But I love this situation, especially with the small windows on the sides. forces everyone to really pay attention. speaking of keeping armor shiny in 'this weather' I'm assuming you are talking about the regular rain. If so, I was wondering how all of that leather armor holds up in the rain. Seems like A LOT of leather armor on the field. Is that one guys Dragon looking helm leather? it looks like it. it also looks like it could be 1k-1,200 too.
I agree! I love all the different battles but the fort ones are really a lot of fun and really tactical. A lot of armor is mild steel so it rusts easy in the rain or even just really humid areas unless its been treated with oil. I have actually never had a piece of leather armor so i have no idea how i holds up when wet. thats a good question though. That guy you see with the insane leather armor actually made that!!! I made most of my armor too but i use aluminum plate. I would bet his and my armor would be in the 1 to 2 k range though but im really not to sure.

Never been to something like this but I can still imagine what it smells like for some reason. And it ain't pleasant. Still seems fairly cool though
Actually you would be surprised! There is a river to bath in but they also have two different locations with actual hot showers. I can't remember a single time where I noticed someone else's body odor at least while on the battlefield. You should try it! It's the most fun I have ever had!

I totally get where you are coming from!! When i first discovered this Iived in Idaho and had nothing near me at all!! It took me a few years but i got a better job and was able to save up and make it happen! There may be some google resources or you should look up Norway Larp groups on facebook. Bicolline is family friendly but they dont allow you to be there underage without a guardian. You are old enough to join the battles though! so either way its only a couple years until you can come on your own! you should save up and start building you Kit. Your kit is all of your larp clothes and accessories you use while there!
