  • The disaffiliation process in the North Georgia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church has been "put on hold" until the 2024 General Conference due to claims of misinformation being circulated to the local churches. It seems one of these documents was obtained by the Annual Conference and what was perceived as misinformation or half truths was corrected. In this video Pastor Jeffrey will go through each of these updates to see what the Annual Conference considers misinformation and if these claims are fair, accurate, or valid critiques of what is being told to local congregations concerning disaffiliation from the United Methodist Church.

    With a provision to disaffiliate set to expire, churches must speculate on what might come at General Conference. Waiting carry too much risk.

    I spoke to a UM pastor at a Gideon's pastor fellowship, (Western PA) and he said his little rural church wants to disaffiliate but cannot afford it. They are an older congregation who plan on sitting it out until they all pass on and the UM absorbs their empty church property.

    I pray all of the churches will choose to follow Christ, not the world. The UMC left the Methodist.

    Thanks for taking the time to put this together in a thoughtful and honest way. It appears that whoever put the original presentation together tried very hard to be fair and honest. That the "editor" seemed to think the document was "misinformation" is at best, puzzling to me. As you so aptly put it, most of the editors responses were disingenuous and "conjecture itself. It's almost as if they believed the more red ink they spread over the document the more it would advance their purpose! Our vote is tonight and I am hopeful we can cut the shackles and move on with the mission of the church.

    If I was a methodist I would definitely be a fundamentalist or traditionalist. I love the word of God. It's really sad to see what's going on. It reminds me of Paul's warning to Timothy to watch his life and doctrine closely.

    Great stuff! Spent my life in the UMC. Yes we've always been divided but it sounds like you and I agree about most things. Okeene and hennessey are both working towards disaffiliating if we can get them to cooperate.
    Personally I still wish the church could just not change and we could stay in the UMC but it's looking more and more like that's not going to happen.

      Well, I think that the rise of Africa means that it will happen. I don’t think the Christmas Covenant will pass. I think traditionalists will prevail in the end. Even so, the problem hasn’t really ever been with what is in writing. It is with those who hate our covenant but refuse to leave. Unless and until agitators and activists are somehow removed from our fellowship, it will continue to be a most miserable body.

      @@plainspokenpod so are you guys waiting it out? I personally think 2/3 to change the book of discipline is never happening on gay marriage. And I am under the impression that 75% are needed at our annual conference and that also seems insurmountable. I feel like at this point the umc just wants congregations to leave so we can pay them and then they can go more liberal. I still think they should leave if they don't like the way it is and I still feel like we are the majority. I think if the go the direction they want they'll end up with more pastors then members. If seminary is teaching that same sex marriage is okay then the Bible and advocates are doing a terrible job at proving it to the congregation. The Bible is pretty clear. If they want us to agree they'll have to take our bibles away

    I attend a UMC church in Texas and our pastor advised us that the deadline for disaffiliation of 12/31/2023 has been extended until after the annual conference. Is this correct?

    • @plainspokenpod
      @plainspokenpod  ปีที่แล้ว

      No. There is no way for an annual conference to extend 2553 past the end of this year. Your pastor is speaking out of his/her depth.
