I am also struggling to get through this format It is super deep lots to learn. Who knew I would miss bloomborrow's color by number drafts. Enjoying watching and learning with you Paul thanks!
Duskmourn feels like OTJ. The Rares are crazy bombs and often decide a match, after you played it. I struggle a lot in this format, but it is nice to see, that I am not allone 😂 keep going Paul , appreciate your Videos 👌🏻
32:00 Mannnn that was so brutal 🤣🤣🤣 I could feel your happiness with the certainty that you would win that game until the 9 mana drop comes... This is nightmare fuel for competitive mtg players lol...
The frequency with which I’ve had a game in the bag and impossible to lose… only to have my opponent get valgavoth in play and have to immediately scoop… it’s such a stupid card to have in a draft format. Even atraxa wasn’t this bad. He’s unkillable and easier to get in play. So frustrating.
Even after hordecaller p1, I am super tempted to take gremlin tamer, then the meat lockers, exorcise, and floodpitch drowner line up perfectly. Hindsight is 20/20, but I like cutting off blue in this set, some might call it forcing... if a good uncommon (the secret mythics in this set) comes around early. Leaves you open to UW or UG where I have had the most success so far. I am loving the daily videos and streams, definitely teaching me tons, thanks!
Whoa, rough start, Mr. Cheon. I'm getting my teeth kicked in - I've found that I'm keeping a lot of 2-land hands and it's not doing great. I wonder if they have adjusted their hand smoothing/selection algorithm. And for sure using my removal too early. Didn't know there was an Orzhov rooms built, that one looked fun! (minus the mopey creatures). Interesting set!
Glad to know I'm not the only one struggling with this set. I'm not an amazing drafter but I am getting absolutely wrecked by my opponents having insane bombs and the correct answers to all of my decent threats.
I finally got a great GB valgavoths onslaught deck. Went 1-3 losing to Swarmweaver, reanimate swarmweaver with delirium and 2 other equally tilting things.
I feel like the top end of your deck is much more important in this set, same with decisions around using removal. Could be that this fornat is much different than the previous few, which is causing some players to struggle (myself included)
On day 2 of the format, my OP played tamiyo on turn 3, immediately milled 2 Say Its Name , drew a card, then milled another Say Its Name... They got Altanak out on turn 3 😂 I called it a day after that lmao
I play the Ux decks in this format more aggressively. Blue just has so many cheap and efficient removal/bounce it’s really easy to out tempo your opponent.
Oh, sorry for the dumb question then)) and for the record, i'm also struggling with the format. I always draft a decent deck, but it seems that decent is not enough for this set
I feel like in this format every deck needs a way to win games. That's one of the reasons I don't love blue green even though you can get tons of value, it doesn't have the greatest ways to end games. This deck has great synergies, great card quality, and great value, but doesn't have a way to close out games outside of trying to incrementally outvalue opponents if you don't stick a gremlin tamer early and that just feels like it doesn't work because your opponent, especially in mythic, will inevitably drop a 2 or 3 for 1 bomb eventually. Imo, UW's winrate is great because it can abuse cards like gremlin tamer and scavenger to power out insane early tempo leads that can undercut the bombs in the format, but if you go late against these decks without a value engine bomb yourself, you're probably gonna run into a wall eventually. I know you just drafted the cards in your packs, but if you had like 1-2 more tamer/scavengers over literally anything and 2 grand entryways over the glimmerlights, then this deck would easily be a 6-7 win deck.
infinite top green formats a la buzz lightyear toys in the thousands haha. even survival i know you don't like as much paul, but with a few baseball bats you can steamroll ppl
I know I’m not a Paul Chen but I’m a reasonably good player that can trophy semi often in diamond and this set is doing the same to me. It feels like somehow the games are just so RNG dependent no matter how good my deck or opponents decks are. Feels really difficult to be consistent and I can’t put my finger on exactly why.
Really starting to think green might be to strong in this set. I onow U/W is at the top. But I've yet draft a good one yet. I think it's ceiling is higher the green decks. But I think the floor of the green just alot higher than the floor of the colors. I've only done 7 drafts so still a small sample size.
@DiscardatRandom ceiling yes but I think its more so that the floor of green is so high. Luke when the card at their worst in the other colors they feel really bad but I don't feel that with green. There's personal bias.
@@nickhamon9758 trapped in the screen has a higher win rate than waltz of rage and perfect for the u/w deck that I was pivoting into. Waltz of rage has a high ceiling but its setup cost means that sometimes it won't get you exactly what you need. As far as saying I don't know how to draft properly. That's a bit rude is all I have to say.
It's crazy to me that you skipped drafting the board wipes to take single target removal spells. I think the board wipes could of given you some better outs. Split Up is only 3 mana, if you even kill two of your opponent's creatures, it would still 2 for 1. The Stay Silents are actually not that great compare to their common counter part Unable to scream. If you run into someone playing the w/g survival deck, these would be hard to use.
this set has some brilliant aesthetics, but gameplay is just absolutely disgusting. worst games and magic experience of the year. such a waste of great visuals and atmosphere. it should have had the balance of MKM. not this bullshit "who plays bombier bombs wins" like ONE, LCI or MOM, and other crappy sets.
Love the content Paul, this format really is very odd. I found a lot of success forcing Gxx(x) with everything that finds lands and playing pretty much anything powerful but floundered around rank 700. Glad the format is at least thematically tight as hell. Keep up the hard work brother!
Yeah I think I figured out what to do with the format over the weekend but this video was recorded on Friday! Finished the season top 50ish so we had a nice run at the end.
The comedic timing on "I hope they don't have an Altanak" was spot on
There's a reason I can't win in this format. I foretell my own doom!
You're still a better wizard than most. You called him once to summon him, while us mere mortals need to say his name thrice.
Having two Say Its Name in the graveyard only to hardcast it is an incredible flex
I am also struggling to get through this format It is super deep lots to learn. Who knew I would miss bloomborrow's color by number drafts. Enjoying watching and learning with you Paul thanks!
You're so welcome!
Bouncing the island and going full beatdown against the RW deck was a really cool line! Definitely didn't see it coming.
The joy and happiness leaves your soul as the Valgavoth hits the field
so sad
Always appreciate the videos Paul. Stay strong. You’re not the only one struggling with this format.
Tough beats. I'm with ya, draft is kind of kicking my butt. For whatever reason I've been doing great in sealed

TY!
The bombs can be dealt with tho you just have to have the removal spells for them just like OTJ. Except there’s no bonny pall
Feel more like Karlov Manor, for me, easy to go 3 colors and many surprises 😂😅
32:00 Mannnn that was so brutal 🤣🤣🤣 I could feel your happiness with the certainty that you would win that game until the 9 mana drop comes... This is nightmare fuel for competitive mtg players lol...

32:02 I chuckled a bit, not going to lie.
The Valgavoth in the second game omg, these beats are brutal.
Yeah thought I had it locked up and even most creatures in that spot would have been fine. But a 9/9 flying lifelinker I didn't have the answer for...

Thank you!

oof
I've drafted SO many good decks and been smoked because of the shuffler or flood lol. This set has been brutal for me too.

Hi Paul! Loving your content, thank you for your work. Why didn't you used your second UFO on big green creature?
Only works on creatures toughness 5 or less

why did you not exile the almanak with your other hover ship??
Toughness 5 or less.

the Lionheart Glimmer is just OK?!
I agree that Trial of agony isn’t great. It feels like other streamers have been overrating it yet I’ve never seen it really do much
Agreed I think it's mediocre

After 30ish drafts, I'm pretty sure green is the best imo
@haumph I also thinks it leaves you the most open to go into any color as a pair.
White or red are probably the best colors imo highest ceiling with both of colors have the best archetypes
Green does have the best commons though
@DiscardatRandom ceiling yes but I think its more so that the floor of green is so high. Luke when the card at their worst in the other colors they feel really bad but I don't feel that with green. There's personal bias.
Is that sweeper not one of the best we've seen in ages....? The one you didn't first pick? In the best colour...
I guess so...
It is the best sweeper he doesn't know how to draft properly

I’ve only recently started watching draft videos recently. Are doubles of cards in packs that frequent?
Happens reasonably often yes.
Try to draft esper or jund Paul it's like the best two archetypes in the set
I personally like Green X anything other than with white. Been doing much better on my streams since I've been aggressively drafting those archetypes.
I played against Grixis rooms yesterday and it was definitely the best deck I’ve faced yet.

Really not a fan of this draft format. Seems way to bomb heavy
WU is a tempo deck, this looks like a WU control sadly
