it doesn’t matter about how many nationals you have won you need to try out for your national team and if you get in then you can compete here just like them
ummm I was debating about posting. I think that these competitors are good athletes. I do have an issue with the rules, inspecific when the momentum of the attacking karateka overpowers the opponent so that the opponents momentum is moving backwards and that athlete performs an uramawashigeri (back round house kick) and gets a point for it. While completely ignoring and not attempt to block the kizami tsuki or any technique coming at them. In this type of situation I find it difficult to believe how effective the kick is in regards to momentum and ignoring the attack, in a real live situation not sure how effective it is therefore not point scoring. I too have competed years ago and this would not have scored. Its a step up from other punching and kicking sports in the Olympics but not a lot. I was hoping and will still hope for a much higher quality to watch at the games. I am from the older generation of JKA rules and maybe I am way off base of how things are now.
Sadly it's not happening again in 2024. But now it's happened once there'll be more pressure and no real reason to stop it happening again in the future, so keep pushing and you can be a part of making that happen. If I was you I'd set my sights on fighting in Karate Combat - better paycheck to be a truer fighter/warrior (points fighting is great but points fighting and real fighting aren't the same thing and require different skills). Anyway although it's great to pursue medals, a true Karateka should train Karate whether they'll get to compete or not.
QUESTION. Please someone tell me the workouts the fighters and kata competitors do. How many kata per day? 100 or more. Thanks and my best to all the athletes.

I don't want to be negative but I don't get it. If you put the TKD trials side by side with the Karate trials and don't tell anyone which is which it quickly becomes obvious which is more interesting to watch and which fighters are more proficient. All that said, this is the first year so I give them a pass. If we were going to add a new combat sport that is truly international I would like to see a Jiujitsu or grappling event and full contact mixed martial arts event, soon.
The Top action was from WKF who didn't respect her athletes as organisation......You organise so many tournaments for gaining points and you judge everything from this tournament....You left athletes in higher seats in rankings out with no reason and you took other which you liked better......This qualification was a SPORT SCANDAL an ATHLETIC SHAME.....I will not speak about the referees beacuse I will need a book..... Unfortunately this is the moto and behaviour of WKF ......thats why karate is doomed to get baned from the Olympic program......You must change all this ......
I went to watch the 10th World Karate-Do Championships at Sydney Olympic Park Australia in 2006. I was glad I had no friends with me as it was embarrassing as hell. The judging was very biased especially in the Japanese’s favour. It was total crap the judging. For example. In the Women's Team Kata the Egyptian team was far better than the Japanese team, yet they didn’t receive a place in the top three though the Japanese came first. In the Men's Team Kata it was a similar story with the Egyptian team not making the top three. Yet I would have placed them at a minimum of second place. And many times during the course of the championships there were boos from the audience. And most people in the audience were people involved in karate in one way or another. I've seen a lot of biased judging over the years at tournaments and that's why I never take them seriously. Favourites always receive extra points from various judges helping them to keep on winning. And others receive less points though they are sometimes better. I've seen it myself. Yes, some are true winners but how many are not? It's crap a lot of the time!
Point systems in combat sports suck, but I also understand that we can’t ask athletes to go match after match in an all out UFC-style brawl. That’s just inhumane. Just keep it out of the olympics.
You can't ask for an athlete to perform multiple raw fights at world level in a single day. Look at UFC, most fighters will take half a year between one fight and another

I wish that point sparring had more legal moves and less time in between techniques
I agree. I like the Karate Combat format, if they could make it more like that I think we'd see more general interest in it.
