    A good way to explain the inverse square law, concerning radio comms, for someone who is new to radio transmission, is to compare the Transmitter to a flashlight. (the further away the beam of light goes away from the flashlight, the dimmer, and more spread out it becomes… this is the inverse square law) Next, I explain that radio comms, are not like a laser beam, they are like a flashlight.
    This gives the person I am teaching, a place to start. I can then, go on to compare a lightbulb to an omnidirectional antenna, a floodlight, to an antenna with less gain, and a spotlight, to an antenna with higher gain.

      That Tyro quad is almost unrecognisable from it's original build as it had lots of other review items stuck on it. It flies quite nicely, just a shame the battery area is too small to carry multiples.. but I just need more larger 6S's

    The Rush VTX with Cherry Antenna is without a doubt whatsoever by far the best in analog.

    Yup I agree Rush makes the best analog Vtx I've ever used. I have 4 rated for "800mw" and all of them tested at 1.2w output with the IRC Rf power meter.

      @CurryKitten ya it's the one tool I never knew I needed so much until after I got it. Super useful to check what your vtx is making and see if it's still good. I had one of my rush 20x20s was only making about 350mw on full power setting and didn't even know it. Like I said all my other rush vtx make about 1.2w. I've also tested the happymodel fujion actually changes power, and makes about 500mw at full power.

      Sorry - I only tend to fly small quads into the woods and things which doesn't really suit this VTX. I did try a Tank Ultimate at 500mw on a car and I think that did pretty well in terms of the amount of trees/grass is was able to get a picture through th-cam.com/video/Q5oIhM_I4rU/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=CurryKitten

      RushFPV is impressing me like AKK and I guess they must have superior filtering. The Race Ranger is an excellent vtx but I'm enjoying the Max Solo for the exact reason described in the video.. on the ground going around obstructions in an rc car. It's a tough battle using 5.8g on the ground. Even if you have a wide open area it's not easy getting good video at range especially if you want to just sit in the real car while driving the toy car around.
      As a range test example I can tell you results I got at max power (12v input) on an rc car while I was sitting in my car with the cheap receiver screen just sitting in the passenger seat, not elevated or oriented in any particular way. Within about 200ft or so LOS (aside from being inside car), the video and the audio was very clear. Very rare artifacts here and there. Beyond that it would start to get the white scratchy breakup. I could still go around the corner of a building at that ~200ft out and be able to navigate. I was also having interference from my 2.4g control for some reason that only became noticeable that far out, or closer in at 25mW output power. I would say sitting my car, I could probably navigate around just fine within a 100 meter or so radius so long as I didn't put large obstructions in the way. Beyond that it would get real difficult. This was using a lumenier AXII on the transmitter that probably extends 9 inches from the ground, and EV800D clone goggles from amazon with two omnis and no patch. If you're standing outside of a large house, I see no reason why you couldn't fly inside and navigate every part of it.
      Now here's the important bit from my experience... I remember seeing the video CurryKitten linked a while ago and was surprised at the results. I could never get such results and realized it was because I was trying to run too complex a system where I have at least 6 channels doing various things with various wiring and supply necessities. Just strapping a fixed cam to the car and powering it from a separate battery can give the best outright video because it keeps it all short and simple. I have yet to fully range test such a setup with minimal wiring but I have no other explanation. I suppose if he was using goggles with a true diversity receiver or something then it would make quite a difference.
      Based on a few hundred meters on the 500mW transmitter in the linked video, one would think a 2.5W vtx would either produce much further range, or make that few hundred meters very clear the entire time. I still have yet to get clear video beyond 100 meters on 5.8 analog.

      Cooling a VTX in a car is always the worry, so this is probably a good choice with the in built fan. I put another RushFPV VTX in a car recently th-cam.com/video/Q5oIhM_I4rU/w-d-xo.html no flight controller, you can change power/ban/channel with the buttons so there's no need for smart audio. Essentially, all you need to do is hook the VTX up to a power source and then the camera to the VTX then mount it somewhere. In my example, I just grabbed power from a balance lead, but used a camera that could show me my battery voltage (which is fairly useful)

    Hi,
    Is there a way I can convince you to test the maximum range of this VTX ?
    Coz I've seen a lot of videos here on TH-cam where people have tested their fixed wing models upto a 100Km on a 2W VTX.
    I don't fully trust those videos, I'd totally trust you. So can you please test this 2.5W VTX on one of your fixed wing planes and see the max range that you can get. Cheers !

    • @CurryKitten
      @CurryKitten  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wez's video on the 100km flight was totally trust worthy, but he's also under investigation from CASA for that flight which is one of the reasons you won't find me doing any really long range stuff. Range for video is also dependant on the type of antennas you use on the ground as well as height of what you are flying, and atmospheric conditions. There's never a hard and fast number of what you can do on certain power. Just know you can go really far under the right setup

    • @CurryKitten
      @CurryKitten  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It still depends. Yes - under the right circumstances. But how high are you flying, how high is your antenna gain and how are you going to ensure you are pointing it directly at the plane would be questions to ask. Typically if you are going for long range, you don't start at 50km. You get to 1km, then 5km, 10km, 20km etc and you fix any issues or things that aren't 100% as you go
