  • If you add more Alkalinity and Calcium to your tank, will your corals grow faster? In our last test it did, so we are trying it in a couple of real world reef tanks like we have in our own homes! Today we check in on elevated reef tank parameters and see how they're growing.

    Can you please tell nutrients level for both tanks.. Bcz nutrients level also play great role in growth of corals n colors too

      Yeah there is no mention of nutrient levels even though its common knowledge that if you have a high Alk but low nutrients levels you end up with burnt tips etc

    Fantastic when you give the run down of all the inventory. It would be even better if the costs are provided. Coral growth looks great and remarkably different.
    Wonder how many reefers can just look at their tanks and know what’s going on. What to add, what to subtract and when to test, change media, which media to use, how frequently to change. When to water change.

    How do you acclimate a new store-bought coral that was sitting in 7dkh into an elevated tank with 12dkh ? An 1 or 2 hour drip wouldn’t be sufficient ?

    • @Phangmaster
      @Phangmaster 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      12 dKH is super high, I personally aim for 10, anyone who wants crazy fast coral growth clearly isn't thinking ahead!

    These studies / investigations are great. Not always sure your conclusions are spot on. But overall a really good job.
    I think here your see various improvements of growth in different tank parameters for different corals.

    The problem with this test is there are vermatid snails in there irritating the corals. You can see certain corals not encrusting to stay away from them.

    Great video!!! I currently run mine at semi high level with ALK at 10 from day 1 of the tank setup, which is running about 8 months now. Coral growth is surprisingly fast! Love it!

    I'm honestly thinking about switching my tank to higher levels. The colouration is insanely good and they just look happier.

  • @lawiez
    @lawiez 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    started the hobby thinking higher was better, now i'm just happy at 8dkh, 420 ca and 1250-1300 mg.
    tip for newer reefers, stability imo is the most important for accelerated coral growth.
    elevated reef tank parameters would definitely be for someone with intermediate and advanced experience!

    BRS I NEED YOUR HELP! Just found out my building is getting fumigated in 10 days and I’m stressed about what to do with the fishies? Is there anyway I don’t have to break down the entire tanks and catching all the fish? Is there a healthy way to leave them in the tanks during the vikane treatment? This sucks

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We normally suggest 9 dKH, 450 ppm calcium, and 1300-1400 ppm magnesium as it's a nice middle ground between growth and giving you some wiggle room for potential mistakes. If you wanted to max out growth and are ok with the risk, keeping elevated elements like discussed in this video mini-series is likely going to be your best bet.

    Hi Randy
    How long does the silicone last in a new tank ?
    Is it true that 10 years is time to think of changing the tank?
    Is it true that clear silicone has more silicone than black
    Because of the pigment that makes up the black color?
    Therefore making a clear silicone tank last longer?
    Lab test time?

    Is that really "low level" though I mean for most the low level is probably what we"average or new reefers" would shoot for. Sorry I heard what you said at the beginning saying that the " low level is what average reefers shoot for."

    Hi Randy
    How are the coral colors? Any difference between the two tanks?
    Reason I ask is, I use full AquaForest on my tank, and they claim that dKH of 7,3 - 7,5 results in better colors.
    Can you confirm or deny this?
    Best regards

    It's this kind of extra effort your company puts out that makes me continue to purchase products from you, even though stupid court ruling means you now need to collect sales tax on all purchases.
    Now if you can just find out how to do a high pH tank with a calcium reactor constantly chugging out solution. I mean I guess you can equally just chug out a lot with of kalkwasser but half the point of a calcium reactor is to get away from other "dosing" options.
