  • In this video we hike up to the Bastion Bridge in the Saxon Switzerland National Park. For this trail we start in the quaint town of Rathen Germany. We took a ferry across the Elbe river and started the hike in the town. The Bastion bridge is a stone bridge built into the natural rock formations. It is a popular tourist attraction and has a hotel and several restaurants located at the top. The bridge can be reached by a public bus but we chose to take in the beautiful sights and hike to the top. Along the way there are lots of neat rock formations and even a lake Amselsee that offers boat rentals. This park is a must visit if in the area.

Although it does take more time and work to video and take photos we do love looking back at them to remember. Thanks for watching!

As a tip: For the way up it's better to use the "Schwedenlöcher". So you will have more fun the way up... :)

Which hike is better / worth it according to you guys..this one or the schrammsteine ?

I think we liked the schrammsteine better because the scenery is great and it is less crowded. The trail also offers a good variety of sights making it more interesting.

Schrammsteine are good for real hiking and there are also much more goals around if you like. Bastei is more a nice short trip for tourists who need a short way with a very touristic goal and many people there (here, if you are in a hotel around, use the early morning or evening for looking there with not many tourists anymore... ) ;)

Unfortunately, the Bastei has become a completely overrun tourist hotspot. Locals who love the Saxon Switzerland totally avoid this place because it's absolutely impossible to feel any harmony with nature there. I think for tourists coming from outside, it's best if they know people intimately familiar with the Saxon Switzerland who can recommend the most interesting and beautiful spots to visit, away from the tourist crowds.
But anyway, it's a very nice video. ☺

Yes we realized it was very busy! We did love our other hike we did in the area. Did you see that video?

Surely you mean the video about the Schrammsteine. Yes, I watched it.
It's definitely better there than on the Bastion Bridge jam-packed with tourists. The entire Schrammstein rock formations are pretty large and expansive; there's incredibly much to discover.
In case you ever visit the Saxon Switzerland again, I've some tips for a few nice and family-friendly destinations in the Saxon Switzerland that aren't too strenuous and are off the beaten tourist tracks:
      *Königsplatz* (50.908596,14.362092); *Rauenstein* (50.952267,14.060591); *Winterstein/Hinteres Raubschloss* (50.910503,14.280102); *Großes Pohlshorn* (50.918728,14.314756).
